WOONSOCKET, R.I. -- Drugstore giant CVS Caremark is among the latest corporate sponsors dropping their support of the American Legislative Exchange Council, or ALEC, a business-backed national conservative group.

CVS Caremark joined John Deere, MillerCoors, HP and Best Buy in deciding not to fund ALEC, according to ColorOfChange.org, an organization opposed to the stricter voter-identification laws ALEC advocates for.

ColorOfChange issued a news release Tuesday with this comment from Larry Burton, CVS Caremark senior vice-president for government affairs:

"Over the last few weeks, we have closely followed the issues surrounding the American Legislative Exchange Council (ALEC) and have heard from numerous stakeholders expressing their views. As a result, after careful consideration of the available information, CVS Caremark has discontinued its membership in ALEC."

Stopped shopping CVS quite awhile ago. Glad that I did. May the curse of JC Penney be upon them.

Stricter laws? Showing an ID to prove who you are is strict? GFU

I’m boycotting CVS, too. This is the final straw.

I would think the John Deere demographic would be pretty conservative. Most Deere owners would likely be producers and likely tired of being the host for leeches.

Someone said earlier on a different thread. We’re at the point where 50% of Americans work for a living and the other half vote for a living.

CVS should drop the requirement to show a photo ID to pick up narcotic drugs at the pharmacy if that's how they feel about photo IDs.

John Deere makes a “fortune” from the same program that funds foodstamps. I smell political blackmail.

With CVS and Walgreens both on the boycott list, am hoping I don’t need an Rx filled anytime soon.

THAT, is a fantastic idea! I think I will email them that very idea.

My tractor is an old Ford.

If I buy new, it will probably be New Holland (was Ford), or maybe Kubota.

John Deere is overpriced, overrated, and has revealed themselves to be supporters of the New World Order.

What more do you need to know?

I wish I could get away from CVS. Unfortunately my company uses them as our prescription drug provider. They flat out {expletive}. I'd tell you exactly what I think of them, but then this post would get pulled for language and my account suspended for a week or two. (at least)

It would be hard to imagine a worse company. When our next open enrolment period comes around I'm seriously going to see if I can drop the coverage completely and get the equivalent $ from my company. I don't care if I have to pay taxes on it. I don't care if I end up paying more out of pocket. At least myself and my family will have access to prescription drugs in a timely manner. (not 2 to 3 weeks, which seems to be their minimum turn around time) I will gladly, gladly pay 2x to 3x more out of pocket. In fact, even if I can't get out of the program I may just budget more in my HSA next year and simply buy the drugs outright. I've done that already this year on several occasions.

Word of warning to anyone considering CVS - don't, under any circumstances. No coverage is probably better than theirs at any price.

I doubt it. I bought my 970 JD tractor and equipment over 13 years ago and it would be wayyy tooo expensive to switch.

If ever I am fortunate to serve as a juror on a trial of a person accused of breaking into a CVS store, I already know that I should find the accused not-guilty. Since CVS appears to support breaking and entering into the country, I must deduce they support it too with respect to their own stores.
