They are the pride of America - Team U.S.A. - and for the opening ceremonies of the Summer Olympics in London, they'll be proudly wearing red, white and blue, from beret to blazer. The classic American style - shown in an image above - was crafted by designer Ralph Lauren. But just how American is it? When ABC News looked at the labels, it found "made in China." Every item in the uniforms that the U.S. athletes will be wearing at the opening ceremony in London will carry an overseas label.

I remember back in the 1980’s when lots of cheap stuff was labeled “Made in Japan” and everybody was freaking out.

(my comment from a thread which later got zotted for copyright violations)

There are two reasons to wear a beret.

1. To be French.
2. To disguise yourself so you can appear to be harmlessly French until you catch a Nazi and slit his throat.

American special forces get to wear berets in memory of the second group.

The American Olympians should not be wearing berets unless they are planning on marching right behind the German team...

I care only about one thing, that they do not dare dip our flag in front of the Queen during the Opening Ceremonies, “This flag dips to no earthly king”.

It’s a possibility the flag they carry was made in China too.

I think the uniforms are cool.

And of course they’re not manufactured in the USA, because who would work in textile factories?

Americans won’t. They’d rather get B.A.’s in social studies and wear cheap ties and sit in plastic cubicles and kid themselves that they’re really living the dream compared to a factory drone. Okay, fine — your ties will be made in China.

I blame everyone who’s in charge of everything — the Boomers — for promulgating the myth that you’re a loser if you don’t go to college, and for handing out “student loan money” to everyone.

That’s how we lost our manufacturing base. It’s not Ralph Lauren’s fault.

I pray we get a president who doesn't dip for every king, president or bank loan officer he meets.

And the Germans are wearing Hugo Boss.

Lower the Beret comments. Job exporting is a bi-partisan problem which neither candidate wants to address.

About everything you buy is made somewhere else. These jobs were once done here. Unbalanced trade deals is a bi-partisan.

Perot heard the job sucking sound 20 years ago. Both parties continued to make job exporting trade Government deals. Now it's all smoke and mirrors. Democrats with the illusion of green jobs and stimulus. Republicans with a placebo of cutting taxes and reducing regulations.

Start doing something about it. Get Americas working again, earning income, paying taxes, replenishing social security and buying things.

First step, get rid of the Unions.

I talked some time ago with a guy in the clothing business.
I asked him why more of his offerings weren't Made in the USA.
His reply was that there weren't any firms left to send the RFQ's to.

“I remember back in the ‘80’s when lots of cheap stuff...”

But those uniforms were not cheap! $55 for a beret? $125 for a necktie? And worse for the blazers, shirts and slacks. At those prices, they could have had the clothing hand-made in the US. I’m a reenactor, and our uniforms don’t cost that much! 8-0
