President Obama will be speaking at Centreville High School on Saturday, reportedly the last stop in a two-day campaign swing that will take him through Virginia.
Tickets to the campaign event are free but must be obtained beforehand. The Fairfax Obama for America office, located at 11215-P Lee Highway, will distribute tickets starting Thursday at 5:30 p.m. Tickets are first-come, first-served. Tickets are also available at the Falls Church OFA Office at 7285 Arlington Blvd. , Falls Church.
Doors at the high school will open Saturday at 2 p.m. Attendees should allow extra time for security checks.
Obama will spend two days, Friday and Saturday, traveling throughout Virginia on a campaign swing conducting grass-root events, according to his campaign. He will visit Richmond, Roanoke and Virginia Beach. The entire state of Virginia has emerged as a battleground state for the upcoming election.
Obamas visit coincides with his campaigns Voter Registration Weekend of Action, in which groups of campaign volunteers will meet at the Democratic National Committee Headquarters in Washington, D.C. and travel throughout Northern Virginia. Various locations will have volunteers helping to register voters for the November elections.
Obama has visited other Fairfax County locations, including an April 2011 visit when he spoke at the Annandale campus of Northern Virginia Community college about the deficit.
Obama has also made recent trips to Annandale and Falls Church.
Obama won Virginia in 2008 with a 6.3 percent margin over Republican nominee John McCain.
FYI
Speech at a high school but too busy for NAACP?
I’ve been wondering why he keeps going to high schools and community colleges...
...are the good taxpayers of Virginia donating the use of the gym to the Obama campaign?
Apparently we are. I wish to Heaven he’d stay out of our Old Dominion. The cleanup afterward is horrendous.
TC
Gotta get those 14 year olds on the voter rolls.
BTW, I’m currently planning on being there.
Here's my problem ~ we were all going to Ekoji Temple for Bon Odori starting at 5:30 PM ~and these guys are going to have New Braddock Road screwed up 'til midnight.
Wasn't enough for him to skip over the NAACP thing, but this? This is an outrage!
The Secret Service also has a say in where they go ~
Yup. And the Secret Service likes schools beacuse schools are generally designed to allow for controlled (and observed) entry and exit.
I bet attendees will have to show photo IDs.
LET'S DO THIS!
Saturday, 14 Jul, 2pm
Texan FRiend, I'll bet you're right.
This is written as if anyone can just call up the DNC offices in Fairfax and show up at the event on Saturday. Ha! Fist, the organizers call known local Dems to fill up the venue. If that doesn’t fill the place, the public is allowed on a first-come, first-served basis. The campaign would close out the attendee rolls in time to do the necessary security checks.
Since Obama IS the sitting POTUS, those wishing to attend will each have to give their SS# and a quick FBI/DHS check will be run on each attendee. Then they get to stand in line for a couple of hours, waiting for their SS screening, at which they will show photo ID, before going into the venue to wait another hour or so for the star to appear.
This protocol is governed more by SS than the DNC or RNC or any presidential campaign. But WHO gets to attend is controlled by the parties/campaigns.
I’m with you!
I do not want to go in though, just counter them outside?
Actually Obama is going to the Walkerton Tavern (http://www.co.henrico.va.us/rec/recreation-centers-facilities/walkerton-tavern.html) which is near the softball complex. I think the venue holds maybe 200 people. Very small. The Obama campaign is calling it a ‘small gathering of grass roots supporters’. Not exactly true since the tickets were available to anyone willing to stand in line. Maybe University of Richmond was getting sick of all the disruption his visits were causing. Or the alumni and donors were getting sick of it.
I think the protestors are gathering at the softball complex.
Someone should film all and follow these “supporters” home and find out where the live. Their address should be posted for all to see. Remember the Tom Cruise movie “All The Right Moves” when the coach lost the football game?
