The Speech That Landed Condi On Romney's List (Storm DC)

8:27am EDT

With The Drudge Report driving speculation that Condoleezza Rice is now a leading contender in the Republican veepstakes, campaign surrogates and supporters say Rice electrified Mitt Romney's circle last month with a speech she delivered at the candidate's closed-door June fundraising retreat in Park City.

Rice's forceful and surprisingly partisan 13-minute address — audio of which has been obtained by BuzzFeed — won her two standing ovations from the gathering of big-money donors and GOP elite. It was widely considered the highlight of the weekend, several people present told BuzzFeed.

And then, moments later, she received her second standing ovation by declaring, "It is time for all of us, in any way we can, to mobilize, get our act together, and storm Washington D.C."

Not really a fan of Condi for VP, certainly not a Romney fan, but it is TIME TO STORM DC! To save the Nation and Freedom.

To select such an individual or EVEN SERIOUSLY CONSIDER HER, is the HEIGHT of political stupidity.

Its ALSO another slap in the face of everey conservative whose vote this guy needs to get elected.

Maybe it is just my hearing but that sounded like a snoozer to me.

In any case she won't be outperforming the boring one.

It’s one thing to occasionally “talk the talk”, but when a person has a history of “walking an entirely different walk” one has to suspect the “talk” is insincere.

The fact that Juan Williams thinks that having Condi as Romney’s running mate is peachy-keen tells you ALL YOU NEED TO KNOW.

Mitt, DO NOT DO THIS to Republicans, the American People or to yourself & your candidacy.

Agreed. I do not support Mitt nor Condi. BUT IT IS TIME TO STORM DC! The GOP-e (which she represents) know how we feel and are doing the same old dance.

Hasn't she made it clear that she does not want to run for elective office?

It may be a fundraising ploy. By suggesting Rice Romney is going where the $$$ is. There’s no way she will be his VP pick.

She doesn't debate well. She gets a nervous tremor in her voice that communicates a lack of confidence.

I respect Condoleezza Rice for her many accomplishments both in and out of government but I do not share her views on most political issues. I seriously doubt Condi Rice really wants to run for Vice President as she has always eschewed politics and has said that she hates campaigning. Of course, things change and people can and do have a change of heart.

I think that the former Secretary of State is appalled by the wrong policies and resulting problems, domestic and foreign, the Obama administration has generated and she simply wants to make her disapproval known. Besides, as the article states, Romney choosing Rice for V.P. would be problematic because he has stated that his vice presidential pick has to share his pro-life views To flip-flop on that important issue now would do Romneys credibility great harm, kill the already-tepid support of conservatives and give Obama the opportunity to smear Romney as insincere and untrustworthy. Heck, most conservatives say that about him already.

So, no, I don't see Condi Rice running as Mitt Romney's vice president but I do see her in a Romney administration. Perhaps not at Cabinet level this time but she will likely be in an important position because she has the Washington experience and whether we agree with them or not, Rice is on the same page with Romney on many issues.

...gathering of big-money donors and GOP elite...

That's what this election is all about.

Big money donors and elitists.

You think these people listen to the grassroots?

Not on your life.

This may be the Romney campaign’s way of interrupting the Dem’s narrative that Mitt was just using the NAACP speech as a way to get boo’ed by black people as a Republican racist dog whistle. Romney can offer Condi a job he knows she won’t accept.

The Full RINO Ticket!

Condi’s nice, but National Review (IIRC) once roasted her for a failed tenure as Sec. State. She sounds and looks good, but is ineffectual. Rats.

There are better choices out there. But Mittster & Co. may be choosing a running mate based on light reflectivity and plumbing. That might garner an extra 1% at the ballot box. Kinda cynical, I understand it, and can’t stand it, all at the same time.

>> have left a foul aftertaste

Hence the chant, “No more Bushies!”

Though I liked the Bush administration, it was far too liberal.

A lot of blow-hards speak without that tremor and spout the stupidest things with complete self-confidence. I like her voice.

I have my doubts that Biden will be part of that debate. My guess is that sometime after Romney picks a running mate, Biden will be sent off to pasture and Obama will bring in someone to help create some new buzz for his campaign. Possibly a Latino or someone who could help in a battleground state (or both).

How’d that work out?
