Beaten and set alight, Ncedile Gigi's unrecognizable remains have not been buried since March, when a mob fed up with poor policing took the law into their own hands, torching the 26-year-old in a crime-ridden South African township.
For South Africans, the violence also evokes the dark days of apartheid when suspected collaborators of the white-minority regime were executed by "necklace"a car tire wedged over the torso, followed by a can of gasoline, and then a match.
Mob justice has been an ugly part of township life for years, but the escalating violence in KhayelitshaCape Town's largest black township of 750,000 peoplehas attracted the attention of prosecutors and the new national police commissioner, Riah Phiyega, who took office a month ago.

Where do they think they are?
I’m not sure how much tongue and cheek that was, but I think you’ve touched on an issue that is given too little thought.
You’ve probably considered this too, but I submit the Whites in the U. S. are on the fast track to what was done to the Whites in South Africa.
South Africa is not better off, and we can already see where we’re headed here.
Chicago IS a good case in point.
Or Sanford Fla.
Sad isn't it.....you become resigned like me
I see violence looming in this country eventually
Not strictly race based but there will be a loose element of that Obama...who wasted the ear of young black men and women he surely had....
.....is helping foment this sooner rather than later
I hadn’t heard about Sanford. What took place down there?
I have a hard time accepting the changes in our nation since January of 1993. When Reagan left office in 1989 things were in fairly good shape. Now look at us. It’s amazing.
What I didn’t count on was the complete collapse of the right. For all intents, Conservatism is all but dead in D. C. What did we do with our majority?
I have to agree with you, because nobody stands up to the Left. What other alternative can there be, if the Left supports violence? There is no push back from our leaders.
As the other poster pointed out, look at Chicago. The Black youth there have declared open season, and nobody is calling it what it is, essentially the first salvos of a race war.
I agree with your take on Obama, and the vacuum he left empty, when he could have been a source for good in Black youth.
But thenI guess you wold have to be good to do good. Just sad really.

“What I didnt count on was the complete collapse of the right. For all intents, Conservatism is all but dead in D. C. What did we do with our majority?”
It is really simple. Republicans discovered that in Washington, D.C., the members of the majority party in control could get rich by selling their votes.
In 1980 Ronald Reagan was elected President. Newt Gingrich, elected in 1978, jointed with others to ally with President Reagan and build the Reagan Coalition, the Religious Right, and the Republican majority - the Reagan Revolution - which directly led to the downfall of the Soviet Union, the Contract with America, government reforms, less government, tax cuts, a balanced budget, and the great, long-standing Reagan economy.
Gingrich becomes Speaker of the House and the Democrats create chaos! For the first time in a very long time the Republicans actually had to govern and take responsibility. The Dems were outnumbered.
What happened is Republicans sold their votes. Certain members of the Senate became collaborators with K Stree lobbyists. If you look at the record of Senator R. Santorum, you will see corruption written all over it.
The 1998 budget was scheduled for a $1 Billion cut and congress saw the gravy train leaving the station. No more getting rich at the public trough.
So it became get rid of Newt Gingrich even to the extent of manufacturing lies about him. Later, those phony ethics charges were ALL dropped. The last true conservative resigned from his post of Speaker of the House because he could no longer be effective.
Conservatism in Washington, D.C., died because of greed and self-interest.
Time to get honest...there is something wrong with black leadership...everywhere. Everywhere
It’s called tribalism and it isn’t unique to blacks. Look at any American city controlled by Democrats.
They almost have the frog to the boiling point.
“The Black youth there have declared open season, and nobody is calling it what it is, essentially the first salvos of a race war.”
If it’s any consolation, Hispanics are wiping blacks off the map economically, demographically, and literally. See past the dying gasps of a dwindling people and prepare to deal with the new urban power imported to replace them.
Wasn’t really a conservative majority in DC; just a GOP one. Many of the so-called “neoconservatives” are yet leftists at heart.
Necklacing was invented by that thug Nelson Mandela as a way to deal with political opponents.
In 1994, I thought that what we had was a political problem, and that the majorities in the House and Senate would result in real change. What happened made me reassess my premise. The Republicans tried to make real change, and had some modest sucess. Then, the MSM started attacking them relentlessly, and refusing to allow the conservatives to get their views out.
It became clear that the real problem, and the real power in the country was the MSM, which was overwhelmingly “progressive”, which set the agenda, and who decided what was important and what was not, and how issues should be framed.
Now we are in a battle to create enough new media to overcome the MSM. In many ways, we are winning.
The Black youth there have declared open season, and nobody is calling it what it is, essentially the first salvos of a race war.
This our last gasp at waking up the public and opening their eyes to it. Political correctness is the cancer that has eaten out the heart of true Americans (not hyphenated Americans) and they cower in absolute fear of being called a racist.
Many years from now when America is just like Columbia or South Africa, stories will be told how Political Correctness changed entire societies from civilized to a jungle mentality.
What’s going on in Jena? My grandparents are buried there...
When formerly middle class people, like Tom Delay and Denny Hastert, leave Congress with riches, then corruption in Congress is the problem.
I was in Cape Town walking with a friend of mine. We were confronted by 4 black locals who began screaming insults at us. Two black police officers stood there grinning.
Last time i ever visit south africa.
