Things are getting so rough in the Big Apple that even toddlers are getting mugged.
A cruel thug ripped a $400 gold chain off the neck of a 3-year-old boy who was sitting in his stroller and being pushed by his mom in Bedford-Stuyvesant in Brooklyn on Tuesday, law-enforcement sources said.
The crook and an accomplice attacked tot Harvey Hernandez in the lobby of his family’s Malcolm X Boulevard apartment building at 11:45 p.m. after following him, his teenage brother and mom Riyana Guerrero home from a Laundromat.
“I was screaming ‘Let go of my baby! Let go of my baby!’” the mom told The Post in Spanish yesterday.
“[The man] didn’t say anything — he just looked at us and laughed, almost mocking us.
“How could he do this to a helpless little baby!”

God bless my late mother. I think back to the pretty little smocked dresses she kept from my babyhood....I don’t even want to think of how she would have reacted to the idea of toddlers wearing gold chains.

I think it’s disgusting that a 3yr old would have a 400.00 gold chain; no doubt family gets food stamps...
The baby momma should have had a sign around her neck saying “Rob me.”

Not sure what that means, but as to your apparent puzzlement at some of the comments here:
Do you really see no reason why people are outraged that this woman chooses to put her child in danger by taking him into the street at a time of night that should be about 4 1/2 hours past a 3-year-old’s bedtime?
Do you really see no reason why posters are astounded that a toddler is wearing jewelry that costs so much money, when his family is living in the ghetto?
I really do not think we are being unreasonable to expect a mother to exercise common sense.
Who in their right mind puts any kind of chain on a 3 year old’s neck, let alone an expensive one? Besides leaving you and your kid open to being robbed or physically accosted, you put him/her in the position of strangling themselves if it gets caught on something. Dumb a$$es.

Here's my judgement: Putting a gold chain around your baby's neck and walking around Bed-Stuy late at night is like putting a bleeding tuna around his neck and swimming around the Great Barrier Reef.

They probably left out the bit where Mom was too busy with an 8 piece bucket to stop it for fear of appearing stereotypical.
Few of the posts here stated that at all. Many were merely mocking a supposed appearance of the baby, based upon not reading the article, and at least once came up with a ridiculous reason as to why NOT to read the article.
I wasn’t supporting the mother’s decision.
As I said earlier based upon her reported statements — cheap lesson learned, family safe.
