The U.S. Navy is scrapping urinals from new war ships because increasing numbers of female sailors are enlisting.
The change will be heralded by the Gerald R. Ford class of aircraft carriers, the first of which is due in late 2015.
Getting rid of urinals lets the Navy easily switch restrooms - or heads as they're called on the high seas - from male to female or vice versa, helping ships to adapt to the changing gender make up of crews.

If I was in the Navy I’d stop lifting the toilet seat.
My first ship (1957) was an APA (troop transport) that went into service in 1943.
The troops quarters heads were like a sluice with water (salt?) flowing all the time and the troughs were built of steel and had seats that came down for the #2 business.
Of course this was about 20’ long and no dividers so it could handle as many people as could squeeze into the alloted space.
If the ship designers go back to this method it will be easier for the crew to get to know one another and the trough is already ‘gender ready’.
See, problem solved by ‘Old time technology’.
Now when some whisenheimer lights a roll of TP and drops it in the upper end, that may raise some eyebrows - well , arses anyway.
Of course, when the smaller ships start ‘rocking and rolling, pitching and dipping’ the water may start flowing in a different direction (ha)
I can confirm that is BS.
Now the female sailors can rush in, plop down on the “head” and find it covered with urine from those men who have a poor aim.
Just how often will they be needing switch? Or is this really for the ones who can't decide which they are?
I served long before all that foolishness but my prediction when I heard about women on ships was that the smart ones would return to port with a lot of money and the dumb ones would return pregnant. I don’t know how accurate that turned out to be.

I remember the NCIS episode when the team flew a military transport and Sasha Alexander had to urinate and Mark Harmon gestured to the funnel and tube.

I am quite sure, as this administration attempts to feminize everything, that all sailors will be required to squat.
I am sure the CiC already does so.

My second ship was a 30 year old cruiser with a 1200 psi steam plant. The first word passed after ‘Underway, shift colors’ was normally ‘The ship is now on water hours’. If you got a 1 minute shower more than once a week you were lucky.
