U.S. Navy scraps urinals to make war ships gender-neutral

The U.S. Navy is scrapping urinals from new war ships because increasing numbers of female sailors are enlisting.
The change will be heralded by the Gerald R. Ford class of aircraft carriers, the first of which is due in late 2015.
Getting rid of urinals lets the Navy easily switch restrooms - or heads as they're called on the high seas - from male to female or vice versa, helping ships to adapt to the changing gender make up of crews.

The removal of urinals began many years ago but I do not endorse it.
Ships with gravity flush CHT systems use 0.75 to 1.5 gallons per flush for urinals and 3 to 5 gallons per flush for water closets.
Vacuum freshwater (VCHT) systems use 1 pint per flush for urinals and 3 pints per flush for water closets.
Since the removal of urinals will require the expanded use of water closets, there will be a significant negative impact on holding capacity.

I’ve seen landlubber toilets with small and large flush buttons. That might take care of the liquids vs. solids issues.

They will change their tune when men just start pissing all over the seats.

Can you imagine the strife when the male sailors leave the seat down when they pee?

Will the men be required to put the seat ‘down’ after they finish?

When I was in college one of the dorms was switched from male to female and then back to male due to fluctuations in the male - female ratio.
After a couple of years of female residency, the guys returned to find the urinals had been turned into planters

Is Piss off now a standing order in the U.S. Navy? As in, "Piss off over the side. There's a girl in the head."

When the switched dorms at my college, the girls put goldfish in the urinals.

In 1975 I was TDY in Iceland. Ferried between Keflavik and Hofn on a Navy Tail Dragger (Military DC-3)....in the back behind and ON the rear door, was a funnel and a tube that routed out through the bottom.....I wonder what they’d have to put in there nowdays?

“We Aim to Please. You Aim Too, Please.”
The Gender Restroom wars go on in both the Army and the Navy.
But when you’re in the desert rolling with the convoy & there’s a rest halt, guys face the front bumper & gals back up to it.

Did I read somewhere that on the typical Navy vessel cruise something like one-third of the female sailors on board are pregnant when they return to port? Any sailors out there that can confirm this?
