CNBC HOST MAKES MINCEMEAT OUT OF ELIOT SPITZER

If there were any doubt that Eliot “Client 9” Spitzer has spiraled down into further delusion and irrelevance, it was erased Friday afternoon in an embarrassing and bizarre shootout between the disgraced former NY

Attorney General and CNBC’s Maria Bartiromo. At issue were allegations that a trove of private emails may exist showing the former purchaser of high-priced prostitutes launched a personally motivated prosecution against former AIG chief Hank Greenberg. Of the eight charges Spitzer brought against Greenberg, six have been dropped, with the last two in the process of being dismissed, according to Greenberg’s lawyer. Still, throughout the interview Spitzer alleged numerous times that Greenberg engaged in “fraud,” despite the fact that no federal or state court has ever found as much.

“You can’t say ‘fraudulent’ because there’s no indictment. You can’t just throw around the word ‘fraud,’” challenged CNBC reporter Maria Bartiromo. “Why have six out of eight charges been dropped?”

Finally, just when it seemed Spitzer couldn’t appear any more pathetic and yesterday’s news, Client 9 put in a plug for a TV show he apparently hosts on that ratings juggernaut…Current TV. After the sad and strange spectacle, a lawyer for Greenberg, Lee Wolosky, appeared with Bartiromo. Wolosky said Spitzer’s train wreck of an interview was further evidence of Spitzer’s personal animus toward Greenberg and that Client 9 owes him a long overdue apology.

Y'know, since there's no death penalty in NY state.

While what Spitzer was highly embarrassing and disgraceful to the office he held, he did NOT commit a capital offense. So your alleged lack of a death penalty in NY State (not sure if there is a never-used death penalty on the books) is not relevant to him. FWIW, BTW, some of his flings with whores occurred in other jurisdictions.

Let him stay in the public eye and continue to make a fool of himself.

AIG. I could suggest an alternate headline for the UK news editions of this story.

“Eliott Spitzer tried to destroy Manchester United football.”

Could make Spritzer ‘very popular’ overseas!!!!

Te capital crime was conspiracy to take over the American economy. He was following orders from above and was not acting alone. His part was but a small piece in the successful scam

Barney Frank and Chris Dodd are the other major players deserving a death penalty.

"...the disgraced former NY Attorney General..."

Don't they know he was the Governor of NY when he was disgraced? How soon they forget.

There were stories that when Client #9 forced Greenberg out, and was replaced by Democrat favoring types, AIG's underwriting became lax, which in turn, help fuel the financial crises towards the end of Bush43.

Someone who knew and worked with Greenberg for decades told me that Greenberg always kept a meticulous eye on AIG's businesses, personally assessing the risk of every significant insurance policy. When Greenberg was forced out, this oversight stopped. Most significantly, Joseph Cassano, COO of the London unit, wrote hundreds of billions of business with virtually no oversight, all while drawing several million per month personally. The activities of the London unit was the casuse of the fall of AIG, which was a major contributing factor to the credit crisis. Further, Spitzer's hatred of Greenberg was founded in Greenberg's Republican politics. Add this to the other tricks the Democrats were playing in the markets in late August and early September of 2008 and you have a true scandal.

But you don't hear Matt Taibbi tell us this in his March 2009 Rolling Stone article. Instead, we are treated to the spin from the post-Greenberg Democrat crew that took over AIG:

Well, from what I understand, Greenberg didn’t really understand these instruments at all. And that’s one of the big problems, is that nobody understood them. The only people who understood these CDSs and these derivative instruments was the people who were actually writing these contracts. And this is a tiny, tiny unit. Again, it’s 377 people within a company of over 150,000 employees.

And basically, they were making so much money that AIG senior management said, “Oh, you know, great! As long as you tell us everything’s fine, we’re cool with that.” And they never really did any aggressive accounting of AIGFP, and they never really questioned any of the math that Joe Cassano was sending upstairs.

Hank Greenberg should write a book when this is over.

The Democrats are wrecking this country.

The GOP is just as guilty for not standing up to the RATs. I haven’t even heard a half-assed protest from them.

Off with his head!

Letting him make a fool of himself is fine for the time being, but he belongs in prison.

T[h]e capital crime was conspiracy to take over the American economy.

I don't deny that the 'Rats had a coordinated effort to deliberately undermine and then intrude into the American economy during that GWB era. Bush 43 was sabotaged by his foolish appointments of Democrats Hank Paulson and Ben Bernanke, who stabbed his Administration in the back and gave the Democrats a convenient whipping boy to run against in 2008.

Even if we assume that Spitzer's vendetta against AIG and Greenberg was part of that, though, it would be a serious felony but not a capital offense. A state capital offense would have to, at a minimum, be connected to a dead body. Federal capital offenses might additionally include egregious cases of treason or espionage. This is none of the above.

Gary Hartpence He's one of those weird democrat vanity purveyors so common since the 60's that feel it's necessary to alter or change their true name. His real name is indeed Hartpence.

The single biggest change in our society is the loss of a sense of shame.

No conscience, no shame. No moral standards, no conscience.
