Bill Kristol and the Obama campaign agree on something: Mitt Romney should immediately release his tax returns.
"He should release the tax returns tomorrow. It's crazy," Kristol said on "Fox News Sunday." "You gotta release six, eight, 10 years of back tax returns. Take the hit for a day or two."
The conservative commentator said the presumptive Republican presidential nominee then should give a speech on Thursday calling for a "serious" debate with President Barack Obama on capitalism, allowing the campaign to turn the page and put the focus back on the president's record.
Romney has only released his 2010 tax returns and estimated returns for last year, but he has refused to release additional documents even though it's been common practice for candidates to do so, prompting scathing criticism from the Obama campaign.

I don’t care about his tax returns. They are none of my business. Neither are those of Barack Obama and family.
Now, whether Obama met the qualifications to run for President does matter.
Whether Romney meets the qualifications to run for President does matter.
AFAIK, the requirements for President say NOTHING about TAX RETURNS.
It never hurt the Kenyan guy to refuse to release his birth certificate.
Neocon fight! They may scratch each others’ eyes out!
Exactly! Romney produced tax returns according to law....that is all he is required to do. All these big mouths in the media need to demand Obama come clean!
Obama is KuhRayZee not to release his:
Tax returns for his time at Annenberg.
His College Admissions.
His College Transcripts.
Any records as to why he is no longer a Lawyer.
Proof he was ever a Professor.
His Long Form Birth Certificate.
His Social Security Number.
Etc, Etc, Etc....
Romney’s reply should be, “Show me yours (actual hard copy certified long-form BC & complete college trancripts) and then I’ll show you mine(additional tax returns.)”
Notice he says nothing about Obama releasing any of his records!
As the old adage says: "There's no loyalty amongst CINOs." ;)
Karl Rove thinks we don’t know he is creating a fake issue to distract us from the economy. He knows that if the focus is on the economy, more Tea Party members will get into the Congress.
So now Rove controls what Kristol says? I tried real hard but I didn’t see Rove’s name in the article.
If Mitt wants to establish some higher ground here he should release all his tax records, his college transcripts, his kindergarten diploma and his damn birth certificate. Then demand that Obama do the same.
I agree this is a distraction. But it ha s zero to do with Karl Rove.. Want to get past the distraction? Then release the tax returns! Demand transparency for Obama and move on.
Amen! I'm actually speechless that the Obama people and the MSM would even try to get away with this.
You know what I think? They are begging for Romney to go "Birther". That's gotta be what this is all about. You would have to be an idiot to be in the situation that Obama's in with all his records sealed and even went as far as posting a fake BC on the WH website. Obama wants the election to NOT be about his policies but about his birth certificate.
Here's what I think...
1) Romney should do as he feels would be best politically regarding his tax returns and he should touch on the facts that Obama is the least transparent President we ever had. But he must make the economy and Obama's policies the number one issue. I think Obama's getting hurt by Romney's tactics and that's why he's trying to change Romney's campaign.
2) Donald Trump should be the national Birther spokesperson and start hitting all of the networks informing the public about Obama's forged BC, SSN...etc.
I'm actually very big on this Birther issue. It's important to me and to America. And I'm really not a supporter of Mitt Romney.
But it is what it is. Romney is Obama's opponent and Obama is begging him to make the BC the main issue of the election and NOT the economy.
Well, we can do both :) Easily!

It’s just amazing how many Republicans are willing to go on camera and spout lines from the Leftist’s Play-book.
Can’t demand Obama be forthcoming because it might offend someone.
But boy can these nut-jobs pile on our team, who cares who it offends.
I’m not a Romney supporter, but I do find myself compelled to defend him when the Left goes nut-job.
I like your comments and think it’s the height of absurdity to see the Obama team demanding Romney reveal documents.
Mitt has a good reason to want Bain to be better known. It cements his creds as a “good capitalist.”
If Romney had a pair he would tell ODammit to pound sand. He doesn’t so he will not. The Foxtards wiped his nose, and did a mittathon 24/7, now they are concerned how he doesn’t respond to attacks, and turn the conversation to Obamas record. Oh well.
I hear ya, and I don’t disagree.
Frankly, there’s only four words Romney needs to say to Obama. And it’s a quote.
“It’s the economy stupid!”
The more you know about Bain, the better Romney looks.
In fact, I think Romney should develop a list of twenty key points about Bain, release them, and then explain how stupid Obama is, because he can’t grasp the need for a company like Bain.
Most of the entities Bain took over, survived. Without Bain, they all would have died.
Romney should say something like, “Even a kid with a good understanding of fifth grade math can figure this stuff out. Too bad the president doesn’t have one.”
Take the hit for a day or two so says Kristol. What hit? Why call it a hit?
Tell obama you’ll release every tax return for each college transcript he releases.
Bottom line is that Obama still isn't qualified to be President.
Either Maggie or Star found financial records way back last winter and tried to allert freepers that they would be an issue for romney. He was making several million a year after “leaving” the company . He has never really left it as he is still a partial owner with income from it each year.
We also found that John Huntsman, a cousin of MR.family’s business is also intertwined with Baine. That one of the women who was his right hand man at Bain is also involved with world economic groups.
Romney should ask Kristol to show him his? or Obama’s?
Im not a Romney supporter, but I do find myself compelled to defend him when the Left goes nut-job. I like your comments and think its the height of absurdity to see the Obama team demanding Romney reveal documents.Bill Kristol is not a left-wing nut-job.
Notice he says nothing about Obama releasing any of his records!
We already have a President wrapped in secrecy...we don’t need another.
Romney better get his sh** together, pronto, -cause the media smells blood.
And they're looking for any excuse to bury the GOP nominee.
He needs to announce his VP so that he/she can say stuff like that. Romney needs to look presidential himself and not look like the South Chicago thug he's running against. As for the tax returns ... they're probably as long as the Encyclopedia Britannica b/c of the mind-numbing complexity of the US tax code, he should release a few -- say three -- years of the first page of the return and that's it. He should also make a big show about releasing his college, law and business school transcripts, standardized test scores, passport and travel records, Social Security and draft registration, etc. And his birth certificate.
I remember when obama's qualifications were questioned during the last campaign Juan Williams said, I kid you not, he said with a straight face that (obama) "managing his campaign" is all the experience he needs.
I agree he should have known his tax returns would be brought up! He should produce them but only if obama produces his creds.
Romney: Kristol “Krazy” To Jump on The “Release Tax Returns” Bandwagon
Actually Romney only has to say one thing.
In the 2008 election, John McCain only released his tax returns for 2006 and 2007. No one had an issue with that.
So it seems odd that with a failing economy, a failed foreign policy and a failed energy policy Obama is focusing on the tax returns of his opponent and not his successes as President.
Then create the ad and run it on every MSM outlet.
He will never get my support whether he releases his tax records or whether he is trying to fulfill some stupid prophecy.
No, I wouldn't actually term him that either. If my comments inferred it, that wasn't my intention. I do get frustrated with guys like Kristol though. They hurt us in so many ways.
We have some great Conservative thinkers out there, and tragically Kristol takes up a slot one of them could do a lot of good with.
I don't know what drives guys like Kristol, and there are plenty of them out there. My guess is that they don't want to be seen as (God forbid), "a fringe rabid fundamentalist Christian Conservative." So what do they do? They look for things they can agree with Leftists on. The call for Romney to release more of his tax returns, why sure that's reasonable. "If I agree on this, they'll see me as reasoned." Why should anyone give a darn how the Leftists see them? And yet, Kristol and countless other Republicans do.
Okay great. Then call yourself a luke-warm moderate, and quit letting folks introduce you as a Republican Conservative, when you're not.
Bob Dull walks out on the capital steps one Friday afternoon and says, "Well, the government shutdown can't go on. Both sides need to find some way to compromise." Earlier in the day the media had been reporting that the White House was going to be burning the midnight oil all weekend, so that the government could move on. The emphasis was on the Clinton White House beginning to cave. So out walks Bob Dull, and completely destroys that premise. It was a betrayal of Newt Gingrich. It was a betrayal of the cause. Bob to this day still has no clue whatsoever, what he did.
I've seen Newt do this. I've seen Krystal, Bennet, Rove, Card, Lott, McCain, and countless others do it. At times these folks should be on the Democrat payroll, they're doing such a swell job for them.
This time it's Bill Kristol saying he blieves "Romney should" release more of his tax returns. And by saying this he gives credence to the Left's demands. At the same time he gives Obama a pass on his own document problems. Just like Dole, he actually aided the Leftists without the slightest clue what he was actually doing.
Add to this problem the issue of nobody being on the same page, and it's just amazing how juvenile Republican efforts are.
One Republican player says we shouldn't be doing something. Across the capital some other Republican walks up to a microphone and says something diametrically opposed. And in still another location, another Republican has a third view to express, and a camera crew dying to get it on video.
Everybody thinks themselves a genius. None of them have the slightest clue how they are destroying our momentum.
At the same time, the Democrats are using the same exact terms to frame the debate. Twenty media outlets punch out reports using those same terms on the same morning. Nobody but nobody issues a contradictory statement.
Who wins? Look at the direction our nation has been headed in for the last twenty years. You can thank these characters in no small part for that. When they figuratively stab people, it should be the enemy in the chest, not their own team members in the back.
I'm no Romney fan, but, for now, he is the only person who has a snowball's chance of beating Obama. And that is more important than worrying about some mythological white horse.
Remembr typing it all depends on what the meaning of "leave" is....several times.
Thank you Hoosiermama. I appreciate the comments.
Romney is another ‘step too far’ for me, and I won’t be voting for him. I do try to be fair to people, and with a crud like Obama in there, I am motivated to keep his claims and efforts fully exposed.
I obviously don’t find Romney worthy of my vote. I think he’s human crud too. Even though I don’t have a dog in this hunt, I cannot stand by idol and not refute what his minions are trying to imply about Romney.
Take him to task on RomneyCare, fair game. Take him to task on abortion, fair game. Take him to task on exercising Capitalist principles, and I’m just not going to allow it to take place in a void, especially in light of the damage Obama and this team have inflicted on Capitalism.
Baine is misdirection and little else IMO.
BTW: Hope you feel better soon.
Obama has a get out the vote facet he doesn’t even know about. My neighbors have never been too political. All five members of the family have made sure thier voter registration are up to date.....They plan to vote against 0....not for anyone.
Got a call into DR. Test done last week, waiting for results.
Won’t make a decision till VP is announced. Was about as unhappy with McCane at this time then Sara turned it around.
I am glad they are seeing things clearly enough to do this. At least they are not going to be voting for Obama.
What I fear from a Romney victory, is another term where Conservatism will take public beating after public beating.
“Oh, he did that. See, what did I tell you? Both parties are just as bad. Those Conservatives are two-faced liars.”
Whatever Romney does, it will be portrayed by the media as being done by a Conservative. It all but destroys our brand. Congress will pass too much of his Leftist leaning initiatives.
By 2016 no Conservative will be able to stand up and make promises. They’ll be laughed off the platform. So what do we do?
What we do is wait another 12 to 20 years until another extreme Leftist provides a clear enough contrast that we can get just about any brain-dead luke-warm moderate elected, and then we’ll nominate another Leftist to represent us.
It’s what my party does...
The IRS handles any tax issues.
This is just an attempt to embarrass Romney on the amount of money he made and sheltered from taxes.
If you want my opinion regarding Sarah, I’ll limit it to the aspect you touched on.
Do you have any idea how lucky she was that the team didn’t win?
Kennedy looked around for a strong man to help him get elected. He chose Lyndon Johnson and it worked. Johnson was a heavy-weight on Capital Hill. He wielded a lot of power over there.
Once Kennedy was elected, he emasculated Johnson cruelly. Accepting I’m not a fan of Johnson at all, Kennedy simply shut him out. His opinion wasn’t wanted. He was essentially told to go stand in the corner. They laughed at him.
Sarah Palin is very lucky she didn’t get the same treatment. And if McCain/Palin had been elected, you can bet that’s exactly what she would have gotten.
McCain allowing his election team to belittle Sarah after the election, and him not defend her, told me all I needed to know about what would have been in store for her if they had won.
And then she supported him for re-election. She may be quite savvy in some ways, but her grasp of her status in McCain’s eyes, was woefully non-existent.
