The Petraeus Passport Puzzle [State Department denying "country clearances" to CIA operatives]
The American Spectator ^ | July 16, 2012 | Jed Babbin

Posted on 07/16/2012 4:29:18 AM PDT by Cincinatus' Wife

.......The denial of passports to CIA agents would most affect those who are going abroad to gather intelligence under an official cover of other U.S. government employment. Covert operations, logically, would not be affected as the agents involved would not be traveling on U.S. government passports, though "case officers" who run the covert agents might be.

The need for the intelligence those agents would gather is too obvious to explain at length here. In short, the instability in nations such as Pakistan,Egypt,Yemen,Somalia, and others enjoying the Islamist fruits of the "Arab spring" has reduced America's ability to influence events in those nations to a dangerous degree. More -- and more accurate -- intelligence is essential to maintaining what little influence we have.

The urgent need for intelligence from inside those nations raises three large questions: is Hillary Clinton behind these actions? Is the president not interested in what advantages we could gain from having it? What is DCI Petraeus doing about the problem?

One source questioned whether Clinton was behind it. This person reminded me of AttorneyGeneral Eric Holder's war against the CIA. Holder, before he was confirmed as AG, promised several Republican senators that he would not try to prosecute current and former intelligence agents who were involved in using the "enhanced interrogation methods" that were highly effective when used during the Bush presidency. Obama banned them soon after he was inaugurated. Holder is known to have favored the ban and broke his promise to the Senate members. Though the cases have not yet been pressed, his Justice Department has an open investigation into the conduct of CIA interrogators. That source expressed skepticism that Clinton would be behind the passport denials, pointing instead to Holder.

...She might have wanted to bar CIA operations in Egypt to gain favor with Morsi.........

America NEEDS A NEW PRESIDENT!!!

Then, keep Petraeus and authorize him to completely restaff the CIA.

Folks don’t know that this agency has been overrun by liberal academic elites, bent on stifling the charter of this once fine team.

More proof of Hillary Clinton’s incompetence at running ANYTHING except an opposition research/potential blackmail scam in the West Wing

What is the purported purpose behind NASA’s outreach to other countries? Note: “purported” purpose? I’m not sure I understand even their claim behind it, not even to mention their real reason...

Maybe some FReepr's can do some math on this, e.g., the US Department of State has a manning level capped by law at 15,000 Foreign Service Officers & Specialists; if someone was to add up the number of actual positions currenly filled (not on the books) home and abroad we could find the actual number of DoS employees stated publically on the Mission (consulate/embassy) websites. The difference would then be a strong indicator of the infiltration by other agencies creating the overages. This would still not account for CONUS manning or Civil Service Employees filling STATE positions.

I assure you that without considering the CONUS fills or Civil Service Employees serving abroad that the listed number exceeds 15,000.

Cheers.

First they cripple NASA, then lay off thousands and now begin the call to shut down centers -- because there are empty places.

NASA should consider closing sites to save space

What next?

Pull the plug on tax funded "commercial" space?

Russia pulling the plug on transporting OUR astronauts to ISS?

Soon the "greening" of NASA will be complete.

http://www.nationalreview.com/articles/309449/new-jim-crow-guam-where-s-holder-john-fund?pg=1

“Eric Holder is scheduled to land in Guam today, the first U.S. attorney general ever to visit the U.S. territory, which serves as a center of U.S. military power in the Western Pacific. But the Associated Press reports that after meeting with local officials, Holder will not take any questions from journalists “because his tight schedule doesn’t give him time for a press conference.”

That may be, but the curious omission also spares Holder from any questions about why his department has refused to intervene in or comment on an important court case involving U.S. citizens who are being barred from voting on the island — a far more serious matter than the mainland voter-ID laws decried by Holder as the equivalent of “poll taxes.”........

.......Guam has been American territory since it was ceded by Spain in 1898. More than 1,700 Americans along with many brave Guam residents lost their lives in liberating the island from Japanese occupation in 1944. Guam has long contributed many courageous men and women to the U.S. armed forces.

But there is on the island an undercurrent of hostility against the U.S. The local government is dominated by Chamorros, because of high voter turnout on their part and a correspondingly low voter turnout by other ethnic groups. A vocal minority of Chamorros goes so far as to envision the referendum as a first step toward ridding the island of U.S. “colonizers.” Protesters often call for removal of a key nuclear-submarine base on the island as well as the closure of Anderson Air Force Base, the operating home of B-2 and B-52 bombers assigned to the region. At a time when China is flexing its military might and making incursions into the territory of nations in the South China Sea, Guam is more important than ever to U.S. security interests.

Despite the importance of Guam, ideologues in the Obama administration seem to be actively helping efforts that will only increase ethnic and racial tension on the island. The Obama Interior Department is set to transfer $250,000 to the island’s territorial government to promote and advertise the racially discriminatory referendum, which local observers predict will be called in 2014.

It’s understandable why Eric Holder doesn’t want to answer questions while he is in Guam. The Voting Rights Act he claims to strongly support is being ignored on U.S. soil, and his Justice Department is completely indifferent — or even hostile — to enforcing it. No one would want to address all the contradictions inherent in that position.”

Trying here to picture in my mind, what is their stated concept for NASA?

You said, “the greening of NASA”.

But if not for a space program, the words National Aeronautics and Space Administration become oxymoronic gibberish...

And where does “Muslim outreach” factor in along with “greening”.

I’m left scratching my head.

Now it could just be a ploy, just like everything else they do, a trick to destroy NASA by having it do everything in the world BESIDES conduct a space program.

I get that, with these people. But that’s too simple...seems like a nefarious purpose is more likely than simply misdirecting NASA to destroy it.

USING it for something bad, IOW.

I don’t know who your congresscritter is, but I wonder WHERE IS CONGRESSIONAL OVERSIGHT OF NASA?

I think those that know are holding on with hopes that once Obama is gone the next president can try to salvage something. But this Administration is hell bent on breaking things down (get all factions involved with NASA going at each over lost programs, budgets, etc due to NO stated program). Without leadership at the helm, NASA has floundered.

NASA was symbolic of American exceptionalism and drove technology and innovation -- the underpinning of a strong country. So by taking that away you effectively remove the USA from super power status and have us retreat from the arena.

He's leaving these kind of "bombs" all over the place.
