WH: Stimulus ‘Widely Recognized to Have Broken the Back of Recession’ (Carney)

(CNSNews.com) - White House Press Secretary Jay Carney said last week that the $831 billion economic stimulus law that President Barack Obama signed on February 17, 2009 is “widely recognized to have broken the back of the recession.”

When President Obama signed the law three and a half years ago, the Congressional Budget Office estimated it would cost $787 billion. Since then, the CBO has revised its estimate, eventually concluding the stimulus cost $831 billion.

In January 2009, the month before Obama signed his stimulus, the national unemployment rate was 7.8 percent, according to the Bureau of Labor Statistics. It has not dropped below 8 percent in any month since then. In February 2009, it hit 8.3 percent. In June 2012, it was 8.2 percent.

In January 2009, there were 12,049,000 unemployed people in the country, meaning there were that many people age 16 and older who wanted a job, had actively sought one in the previous four weeks, but had not been able to find one. In June 2012, there were 12,749,000 unemployed people—or 700,000 more than there were the month before Obama signed the stimulus.

I don’t think Jay should utter the words “ broke back”. Same for 0.

Any time you have to use the phrase “everybody KNOWS”, you are lying and just trying to make it look good.

Actually a true headline....it broke the back of the recession, which would have lead to a recovery, but instead has sunk us into a depression.

The new recession that we're apparently sliding into, or the old recession that we haven't recovered from?

Yes. The “white house” is either living in an alternate universe, certifiably insane, or just testing to see how far it can get away with its usual “big lie” technique. Or just taking more (non-prescription) drugs.

They and their media sycophants have no choice but to convince the public that the economy is OK. They know Emperor Nero Narcissus is going down, and they will continue to tout how awesome the economy until 1/20/2013...at which point, suddenly all media outlets will instantly start trash talking the economy whether it starts getting better or not. And unlike Obastards and the medias 4 years of blaming Bush, Romney will receive full and complete blame on 1/21/2013.

Caught your kid lying?

Don’t be shocked. Studies show this is normal

"Caught your 7-year-old telling a whopper of a tale lately? And, does the kid seem determined to stick to his story no matter how many holes you can poke in it? Notice that the more he’s backed into a corner the greater he professes that he’s telling the whole truth and nothing but the truth?

"If you catch your child in a whopper, try not to overreact or give unwarranted attention to the misdeed. Understand the child’s motivations and reasons for the lie — was it to get out of doing a chore, to avoid punishment for breaking an object, or a call for extra attention?

"Let him know that you care about his behavior as well as his needs, and that not only do you want to understand them but that you want him to understand his behavior as well.

The goal is to help your child to develop a sense of conscience — so that he can be his own guide in the future when you are not always present to supervise his actions.

Carney is toying with us when he uses the words "Obama", "broke" and "back" in the same sentence.

Obama spending a trillion dollars for stimulus DID accomplish something! It did! It ... ah .. broke the back of the recession. That's the ticket.

Maybe hussein should try telling that lie to the recession. It is alive and well in these parts.

The stimulus is widely recognized as having lined the pockets of union leaders, created a lot of temporary green energy jobs in this country and overseas, and kept some teachers and firefighters employed until their states could no longer afford them - but break the back of the recession - hardly......

Also remember that Jay Carney recently stated "That Obama was an “open book” and had an "extremely sound" record of transparency"

Remember one of the definitions of transparency is " the physical property of allowing the transmission of light through a material", which in Obama's case seems to mean "You Cannot See It"

The BS fillers "widely recognized", "widely discredited" and "...on so many levels" are a red flag to me. The claim of broad consensus with no supporting evidence is a common tactic. The use of "...on so many levels" is a facade that pretends a deep understanding of a topic that can't be defended on further probing. When I see those devices in use, I call BS.

Good grief. Carney must define “widely” as “spanning almost the entirety of the White House and its grounds.”
