Skip to comments. On Palin & her potential lack of an invitation to the GOP convention (Palin would scare moderates)

Yesterday morning Ed tagged a Newsweek article that tried to make hay out of the fact that Palin may not receive an invitation to speak at the GOP convention. Ed pointed out that this may not actually be a big deal, both to Palin and the grassroots, and I agree with comments made below the post by RBJ and Skwor that its likely just Newsweek trying to create controversy out of nothing substantive.
However, this is where RBJ, Skwor and a great deal of the Hot Air viewership and I may split our views. While I am not a fan of Mitt Romneys candidacy, and think he is far too moderate in almost every way, I am not disappointed that Palin may not speak at the convention. In fact, Im quite pleased.
However, I think the negatives of such an appearance outweigh the net positives for those whose sole electoral goal is to get Obama out of office including potentially scaring off moderate voters who are open to voting for Romney and giving the liberal media the opportunity to attach Romney to the largely unpopular Palin.

Gee they would not do that would they? /sarc
So called moderates are one of the GOP’s main problems.
It is rather simple. The GOP does not want her or the people she represents there. They believe they can get enough squishies from the middle to make up for the Religious Right and others they are driving away. They figure they either win with Romney, or can blame his defeat on the Religious Right and start the divorce proceedings.
A corrupt Republican Party has no use for its founding principle of the “loyal opposition”, but now deplore such solidarity, favoring a socialist at the top of their ticket.
Just think what they will give us next time, given our willingness to cave, comply and cooperate with their obvious, closed fist strike to our own jaw.
We are all pacifists now, and the two parties are one.
I suspect Palin will ultimately get a speaking spot. But, if it turns out that she is indeed snubbed... well, what can I add? It will be the final, symbolic clincher, that the Party has irretrievably moved away from the reasons I’ve voted for and supported it all my voting life. It will be the divorce decree.
“(Palin would scare moderates)”
...everything scares moderates. That’s why they’re moderates!
Would Sarah Palin’s public support help or hurt Romney?
Help; shes an asset.
Hurt; shes too controversial.
Above poll on Yahoo, scroll down on right side.
I am sure she will be a huge part of the Convention
Oh, com'on! She outdrew McPain quite frequently during the 2008 race whereever she goes! 10,000 - 30,000 at speech events!
She tells it like it is! That's what scaring the "moderates"!
And the "moderates" are mainly the problem with the GOP!
Get real! It would be a BIG mistake NOT to invite her!
How many people (including moderates) have heard that Sarah has gone not only after the Dems but her own party as well, throughout her political career? How many have actually heard Sarah speak openly about the corruption and cronyism in both parties or that she resigned from a position under Republican Governor Frank Murkowski Admistration because they wouldn’t hold a fellow Republican accountable for corruption? How many moderates know many national politicians on both sides of the aisle today that has actually called out wrongdoing in their own party consistently? The problem is that Sarah was never properly introduced to the public other than media narratives hoisted up on her because they wanted Obama to win and because they hate a beautiful pro-life women (jealously) when the NYT ran a piece on Sarah’s Sept 3 speech on cronyism and her economic plan they marveled at how new and refreshing her ideas were....
Someone once said.
A political party cannot be all things to all people. It must represent certain fundamental beliefs which must not be compromised to political expediency, or simply to swell its numbers.
Guess he wouldn't fit in with today's "Republican" Party.
It would be an unforgivable insult to a large segment of the GOP. Can the party afford to lose loyalists?
> Palin would scare moderates)
Somebody tell me why this would be bad.
I would like to scare moderates right into the DemonRAT party and to dilute it with their wishy-washy, namby-pamby, mealy-mouthed minions.
We can do more with just ONE Allen West than we could with a whole boatload of “moderates”.
Screw You GOP, The Thought of a true blue Conservative scares your Progressive Pants off.
Was Palin even a part of the primary process anywhere? An active part, not just “endorsing” a candidate here and there?
She decided to become a pundit. So, are Rush, Hannity, Levin speaking at the convention? She has removed herself from the process up to this point. Why should she land a speaking gig now?
Fine with US! We are sick of being tied to millstones anyway!
Go right on ahead. It should be engraved in the back of the Under the Oaks monument here in Jackson Michigan.
The GOP-E/RINO gang doesn’t want the people to hear the truth, as Sarah tells it.
It’s all about the money and power, not freedom or the Constitution p, with them.
They’re worried thar Sarah might “go rogue” and bust their chops in front of their cronies, and, she probably would...which would suit me to a tee.
The establishment pubbies don’t like any form of controversy, it scares them.
It looks -at this time- like Romney will be the nominee, and I will vote for him for two reasons...he’ll be easier to fight on the issues than Obama because he wont have the blind loyalty of the MSM behind him, and he can’t play the race card.
Also, the next president will get to pick two judges for SCOTUS, and judges he would appoint, hopefully, would not be radicals like Obama would, and has; if Obama wins, we might end with Eric Holder as Supreme Court Justice.
Romney is a RINO, but given our choices, I’d rather have him than a criminal, radical, racist. Romney is not as arrogant, and at least cringes when confronted.
Palin is supportive of Allen West or any true aggressive conservative for that matter!
If she is offensive to the “moderates” then they need to be purged out of the GOP as they have already corrupt it to some extent!
The conversative group is quite large, and they risk offending them by not inviting her thus losing those votes they need.
Mitt better wake up and scotch those rumors (if that’s all they are!). He has too much to lose by offending the very conservatives!
He must be drinking some of the same juice that Allah-putz has been drinking these past few years.
Have fun without 40% of your voters.
Ignorant kid with a BA in business from a fourth-tier college.
And anyone is reading his opinion on how knowledgeable Palin is for what reason?
Hot Air can do better than this unless they’re just taking any and all Palin-bashers they can find.
I am soooooo tired of these moderates. I think I dislike them more than the liberals.
So called moderates need to be catered to for votes? Those are not republicans or conservatives, I call them Democrats.
they can get enough squishies from the middle to make up for the PATRIOTS/Pro Constitution!!
Virtually every “moderate” in office is a result of conservatives compromising while moderate voters laugh at us and refuse to compromise and vote for conservatives.
They should be driven from the party with bullwhips.
THAT was written by a progressive coward.
Romney is NOT a Rino - he is for socialism/liberalism
Show us his accomplishments in MA and tell us where is the republican platform.
Same Sex marriage/end to traditional marriage - 1st state in country.
Hugh tax/fee increase
Socialistic healthcare - 1st state in country
Pro baby killing
Majority of liberal appointments
47th in country in employment
What is even AMERICA about that and initiated in the land where the pilgrims landed. Romney sure was on the fast track to bring his filth to MA and now to America!
Loyal to a party that deceives is being loyal to bondage.
Can the party afford to lose PATRIOTS - the backbone of America?
Well, you go ahead and vote for your butt-boy, Obama...I could care less.
The republicans and democrats are slaves of neighboring plantations shouting back and forth over a shared fence. They only stop long enough to chuck rocks at freedmen passing on the road.
I’m not even one of Palin’s biggest fans and she’s still the only reason I voted for McCain.
Moderate my a$$... they are progressive republicans.
Wrong knucklehead, that's your unteachable head deciding what she is. Did Levin, Rush hold any political office?
Who the F is Dustbin Skiggins?
You have decided not to be a real Freeper for personal reasons, so it is time for you to move on.
Governor Sarah Palin and the Conservatives scare Wee Willie Mitty and the liberals...
If she was to attend the convention, she would shine with patriotic fevor and integrity and dull Willie would fade even further into the unAmerican wallpaper of Socialism in comparasion...
They cant have that ...
No the speaker lineup of RomneyBot pom pom girls has to be Jimmy Carter types...
(I borrowed that pom pom girls thingy :) )
Patriots: freedom/The Constitution marching down the road waving the American flag and the 'rats and repubs throwing rocks over the fence at it.
Then hang it w/2012 on it next to The Constitution/1776.
I’m going to do everything I can to force a choice on the GOP and I encourage all conservatives to do the same.
Time to move on? Not much Patriotic fight in you.
But then, again, the GOP isn’t about that - just hand over America on a silver platter to the enemy and move on.
We need to stop worrying about moderates and independents and enlarge our conservative voting base. There are plenty of conservative minded people that do not vote.
If I were of the ilk to vote for obama, I could easily vote for mitt. I haven’t reached that low and never will.
However at #45, you can do your magic and give us one of your fabulous creations!!
