How did vaunted Romney death star break down
Washington Examiner ^ | 17 July, 2012 | Byron York

Posted on 07/17/2012 11:10:04 AM PDT by RitaOK

No matter who they supported, many Republicans felt uneasy as they watched the intra-party war unfold. Many — voters and insiders alike — remarked that when the general election campaign came around, Romney had better attack Barack Obama with the same ferocity he attacked Gingrich. (And, at other times in the primary season, Rick Perry and Rick Santorum.) Otherwise, it would look like Romney took more relish in attacking fellow Republicans than in taking on Obama. Romney had won the Republican nomination in significant part by operating a death star — a machine that could rain down holy hell on opponents, if that’s what winning required. He had better give the same treatment to Obama.

Now, the general election campaign is here, and the talk is of the Obama killing machine, not the Romney death star. By most accounts, the Romney campaign is not displaying the super-aggressive effectiveness

Our old pal Romney is STUCK, finally, on a level playing field. The crushing money machine provided by the RINO GOPE has a challenger, and the oppo' research team comes up with nothing on Obama we don't already know.

Gingrich must be chuckling under his breath that this poseur is reaping overdue justice.

How did vaunted Romney death star break down

Easy. It's used to fighting overmatched and underfunded opponents.

Now he's fighting an opponent with near-equal funding AND the support of the MSM. After he's torn his base apart winning the nomination.

With his attacks on American free enterprise and rugged individualism, Obama hasn't even moved the needle inside the MoE, and yet the MSM wants Mitt to spend spend spend. I wonder why < / sarc >

Virtually no one is paying attention to politics now - except people like us - who aren’t going to be be influenced anyway. What happens now is of little importance in the long run.

These are just the warmup moves by Obama. These are love taps compared to where Obama is ready to go. Remember in the last election Obama accused Todd and Bristol of being sexually active and Sarah being complicit in the coverup. He will top that until this campaign is over.

Romney neglected to FIRST SECURE THE BASE.

The way you always win an election is to FIRST SECURE YOUR BASE then try to peel off a faction FROM THE DEMOCRATS.

If you PO your base you will lose no matter how many Democrat votes you get.

Romney and his Mittbots are doomed to fail.

Byron York doesn’t impress me, I’d like to see HIM launch an agressive anything.

Romney is tied or very close or ahead in the polls. Obama was going to attack on something and Romney is running response ads in the swing states.

It’s a very interesting question as to who will win, but this idea that the Romney campaign has broken down in the last week is the definition of overreaction.

imho you are witnessing the following. Conservatives who are insecure about Romney or his campaign are giving credence to a media that is more than happy to pretend the whole election just turned on the issue of outsourcing some jobs.

There is no way the legal outsourcing of some jobs is going to be the game changer in November, and the last thing Romney needs to do is get mad about this stupid diversion.

Romney does need to attack Obama and continue to drive Obama’s negatives up.

He’ll probably accuse one of the Romney brothers of attempting to sexually assault one of his (Obama’s) rented daughters.

Romney is light weight when attacking the communists King. Newt would have crushed King Obama by now but simple minded opposition kept up the baggage routine that destroyed Newt’s chances. The Romney push was backed by the communists Democrats who played a great game. But now we have no choice in order to kick the King out, we must support Romney. We have some simple minded on FR that have yet to realize how powerful King Obama is and how close this will be.

They haven’t even had the convention yet. Don’t use up all your ammunition in the beginning of the battle. You hammer the opposition in the last 30 days so the voters will remember. After all, the American public has a severe attention span disorder. Things said and done today will be forgotten within days.

All of you have nailed it. Romney is not going against an underfunded Rick Santorum, he is going against the POTUS machine. Not only is he now over matched, he is utterly unprepared. This is the worst candidate I can remember and I’ve been voting since the 60s. I say again, because we have been handed this feckless fool, we will be slaughtered in Nov. I have decided, quite frankly, that this is not a bad thing as it will purge the GOP elites.

And as much as I have railed against Newt in the past, my God I now wish we had nominated him. Santorum was my choice, but at least Newt would have laid a glove on Hussein.

This is a disaster.

“Newt would have crushed King Obama by now....”

Newt would have self destructed by now. I watched Newt self destruct against Romney. How could Newt possibly withstand a campaign by Obama when he couldn’t even hold the respect of the republican base?
