This incredible video from Gainesville.com shows a concealed carrier defending himself and the patrons of an Internet cafe against a pair of armed robbers. What would you have done in this situation? Do you think he reacted appropriately?

A .380 just isn’t enough!
A .380 just isn’t enough!
9mm would have been better.
Grandpa did GREAT!!!!
First and foremost, he brought a gun to a gunfight.
The nothing smaller than a 4 crowd (self included) may complain, but he had a gun, he could shoot it (and apparently hit), and frankly pistol calibers are notoriously bad fight stoppers.
Grandpa SHEEPDOG did some things that gave him and edge though (with age, wisdom...).
Back to the wall behind a computer on the end of a row.
Good view of the door with concealment at least.
Waited till zippy the hoody was within good pistol range but looking away (only real close call was as zippy was swinging his jammies around).
Moved after the draw (gun was out) in a straight line
got low as zippy was swinging back.
Most telling to this armchair observer.....
HE KEPT MOVING TO THE FIGHT. He stayed engaged until the threat was no longer a threat. Technique discussions aside, he won the fight by being the better MAN!
Back to the arm chair
Gotta love that prepared man!

Darn shame he was arrested. He’s out on bail. Good community service should be rewarded!
The only thing he did wrong is he didn’t kill them. Took enough shots but missed. He should hit the range.
.45-—two hosts and it’s over for the robbers, who appeared to be Holder’s people, BTW.
A shame, but not surprising - he was shooting after they were retreating. CCW 101 is you shoot to stop the threat, and as they were falling over one another to get away the threat had already been stopped. Hopefully that decision doesn’t bankrupt him.
Combat? Dunno ‘bout that. All I saw was a great American defending himself and his fellow citizens from some garbage. Well done, and great shootin’!!!
CCW 101 is you shoot to stop the threat, and as they were falling over one another to get away the threat had already been stopped.
At least one had a gun. The fact that he was moving away in no way removes the threat until he is out of range.
+1. Easy to say, but probably harder to do when your adrenaline is pumping.
Anybody know what state this was in? I would no-bill him if I were on the jury.
Must see video (((ping))).
Hope you’re right about not bankrupting him. Maybe he shouldn’t have fired at them after they started to run, but under stress who knows what a person would do?
“hosts” = “shots.” Long day.
I watched this guy - 80 years old. Watch his moves, his form, very agile for 80. My guess is a vet... maybe Korea?
.380 Auto vs 9MM For Defense
I prefer .40 caliber or higher.

So you are all for letting criminal get away to victimize others another day?
You fight the fight with what you have at the time.
The .380 is probably nicely concealable and fits his hand well.
And, it’s what he had...
To stop shooting as they retreated would be inviting a “parting shot”.
I’m afraid for this good citizen’s future. The number of crimes he will be responsible for having prevented will grow forever. Message to bad guys: you never know who has a gun and will use it.
I wish I could serve on any juries judging him.
LOL He really made them scramble!
So funny when one fell out the door and another one ran over him.
Were they Holder’s people?
Couldn’t see much because of the hoodies and masks, but the hands looked like they were.
Wrong! He HIT...three times. Here is an excerpt from the news story.
Dawkins had a superficial wound in his left arm, but Henderson was shot in two places: his left buttock and his right hip.
Point. Were the perpetrators still in possession of their arms? If so, would they not still pose a threat, in spite of the fact that they were in retreat?.
That's true. If you go chasing the perps, at least here in the Peoples Rep of CT, the cops now consider YOU the threat. It sucks and the laws are most certainly written for the bad guys, but that's the law here.
So you are all for letting criminal get away to victimize others another day?
At what point would you break off the pursuit and let the police or courts take over? In this case, the guy didn't leave the scene and give chase so I would think he'll be ok.
Even in the best of circumstances, in the most righteous of shoots, you can expect to lose your life savings clearing your name.
That old fart did very well.
I wouldn’t have taken that last shot out the door, but as long as that POS was in the building-in control of a gun that he had already pointed at innocent folks, the gun fight was still on.
That old man saved innocent lives by his actions.
Too bad the bad guys aren’t dead.
Let’s keep an eye on what happens to this fine old fellow and make a collection if he has any legal troubles.
Personally, I would like to buy him a beer... or a whole keg...
"Investigators said Smith struck DuWayne Henderson, 19, of Ocala three times, twice in the buttocks and once in the arm. Davis Dawkins, 19, was struck in the upper chest."
"I feel horrible. It doesn't feel good. It makes you think about life's decisions, and how you should live your life," Henderson said in an interview with the Star-Banner at the jail on Saturday afternoon.
Hours after his release from the hospital, Henderson, who talked about the pain he feels in his buttock and hip, said the plan was to "barge in, get the money and leave." He said "he never expected anyone to be armed."
"The gun was broken and rusty and wasn't loaded. Nobody was going to get hurt," he said, standing with crutches.
They released one of these vermin already!
I can’t believe it.
“Henderson remained in the Marion County Jail late Monday in lieu of a $31,000 bond. Dawkins was released Sunday after posting an $11,000 bond.”
Florida. Gainsville.com and Ocala.com? The Villages retirement community is between those cities.
State Road 200 just West of I-75
Henderson said he had a rusty unloaded gun. “STUPID IS AS STUPID DOES”
Hours after his release from the hospital, Henderson, who talked about the pain he feels in his buttock and hip, said the plan was to barge in, get the money and leave. He said he never expected anyone to be armed.
Henderson and others take note: this is FLORIDA, sometime it maybe a 75YO gray haired lady! Like my SIL, who lives in Ocala.
At 32 seconds in the video you see him (Good guy-GG) rolling his chair out and at 33 you can see his gun is already drawn
At 34-35 seconds he is rapidly approaching the Bad Guy (BG1) initial from behind, BG1 spins and sees him coming with drawn gun and BG1 starts moving and a shot is fired.
At 36 seconds BG1 is sprinting and lady by stander is now covering ears (obviously 1st shot has already taken place)
At 37-38 seconds you see him take another shot at BG1 (now off camera) or possibly BG2 standing in the corner
At 39-40 a new angle as BG1 is falling (shot in hip/leg?) Notice our GG had clear field of fire...no one behind BG1 or BG2 at this point. BG2 is in corner and follows BG1.
At 42 you see GG coming into camera view following BGs with gun at ready
At 43 you see him take a shot with a second at 44.
Camera angle swithes and you see these last two shots again in the door way.
Way to go good guy!
“”The gun was broken and rusty and wasn’t loaded. Nobody was going to get hurt,” he said, standing with crutches.”
It’s still armed robbery. And, just as an aside, if you make people *think* you have a gun, you’d better *have* a gun.
That is excellent!
A head shot or a throat shot would have done the trick.
There wouldn't be an arrest report. Just a coroners receipt.
“I wouldnt have taken that last shot out the door”
I would. Watch seconds 43 and 44 of the video...the first view of his final shots. He did not over pursue. Nor was he firing indiscriminately. The bad guy still had a gun on the ground in the doorway, the last shot was taken as the bad guy was rolling over and getting up...(which way is he going to go if the last shot is not fired and our good guy stopped back at the counter?)...I don’t know and neither did our good guy...he made sure with that final shot that the BG kept going in the right direction!
Both the good guy and bad guy are moving...bad guys at full speed falling down...
Not sure caliber would have made any difference. Very few people get to practice moving shots, particularly when both parties are moving, adrenaline pumping etc. It is hard to hit someone. He got one in the arm, and the other twice near center of mass (leg & hip). a 10mm hitting arm, leg and hip would not necessarily be fatal depending on angle of entry.
Our good guy was controlled throughout...amazing!!!
People preach “shot placement” for a reason. For people like me, some times a bigger hole in the perp can compensate for variance in my shooting ability.
Have to disagree with you: even though the perps were “retreating”, they were still a threat while they were able to turn and shoot. As far as anyone could assume, both crooks were armed and meant to kill. If they recovered their nerves and turned back, the victims would have been placed in danger again.. The lesson I learned in Vietnam was to keep shooting until they’re down, then keep shooting to make sure they stay down, forever. Ammo is cheap and life isn’t.
Looking very closely, I believe the shooter had to rack the pistol and chambered a round just prior to firing.
In other words, his gun did not appear to be locked and loaded.
No fanny pack, shirt tucked in wearing shorts. Appears he had the pistol in his pocket. Just guessing.
“”The gun was broken and rusty and wasn’t loaded. Nobody was going to get hurt,” he said, standing with crutches. “
How was anyone supposed to know that? Thugs should make that announcement right up front so the people can just beat the crap out of them instead of shooting!
And yeah... You catch a magnum class pistol round on a major body part and you are going to have serious issues to deal with. Shoulder shot a feral hog with my 10mm once... I know exactly the kind of damage it can inflict. Didn't ruin the bacon, but it was DRT just the same.
Tactically, he ran the fight on his terms. Excellent work. Definitely a Vet.
