Skip to comments.Physical inactivity kills 5 million a year: (Lancet)report
Posted on 07/18/2012 5:23:40 AM PDT by Sir Napsalot
A third of the world's adults are physically inactive, and the couch potato lifestyle kills about five million people every year, experts said in the medical journal The Lancet on Wednesday.
"Roughly three of every 10 individuals aged 15 years or older -- about 1.5 billion people -- do not reach present physical activity recommendations," they said in a report that described the problem as a "pandemic."
The picture for adolescents is even more worrying, with four out of five 13- to 15-year-olds not moving enough, it said.
Physical inactivity was described for the study as failing to do 30 minutes of moderate physical activity five times a week, 20 minutes of vigorous activity three times a week, or a combination of the two.
Inactivity increases with age, is higher in women than in men, and more prevalent in high-income countries, the researchers found.

Someday the crisis-mongers will scare us into never dying.
AFP, is that “America’s Funniest People”?
Preposterous!! Where in the hell do they get the money for these ridiculous "studies"?

Good question! Let’s apply for a government grant to study it.
Exactly! The stage has been set. Over the last two years I have been exercising more and feel good. I have always had a good diet, but it wasn't enough. What my personal experience tells me is that exercise a much greater factor to health than diet. So we already know the government is willing to regulate, tax and ban foods. It is only a matter of time until the government decides to create a tax that requires one to join a fitness club. Then fining you for not buying a membership and penalizing your for not working out three times a week.
>> Inactivity increases with age... and more prevalent in high-income countries
Now see right here is your answer: death panels to eliminate increased age and UN-managed income redistribution to thin out the inactivity in your high-income countries.
Barky... call your office.
Chief dick Justice
says that it’s perfectly constitutional
for the government to require you to exercise or pay a tax.
Remember, this is The Lancet, a far left publication that will do all it can to advance the statist line.
Because, right before everyone dies, there must have been ‘inactivity’ involved, no matter how brief or transient that moment be.
Ergo, physical inactivity kills 5 millions.
I wonder what death toll worldwide is like, why Lancet didn’t aim higher.

Now, add in (mandatory) bitchy queer personal trainer nazis (think Richard Simmons clones), and I think we just might have ourselves a glimpse of what Hell will be like for unbelievers.
Who didn’t see this coming .......
I agree, and its the fault of being computer addicted.
My puter time is a fraction of what it used to be, and will be much more less in the future.
Reality bites, it stings, its full of harsh sunlight and extreme weather. But its life.
Life on the internet is a land between reality and the unfettered subconscious of when we dream.
I was watching a football game one Sunday, yes, I was sitting, and one of those move 60 government ads came on. I was stuned when they referred to the "REQUIRED", not recommended, 60 mins of exercise children should have.
>> I wonder what death toll worldwide is like, why Lancet didnt aim higher.
Keep in mind the left has already advanced claims about how many folks global warming kills — aids kills — poverty kills — conservatism kills — unlocked guns kill — Christianity kills — hetero marriage kills — racism kills — capitalism kills — sugary drinks kill — &etc
If they make the claim TOO generous, the causes of death will add up to ten times the number of people actually dying and we’ll get wise to the agenda.
I guess you could say that death is the ultimate in inactivity...
You will report at 10:AM next TUESDAY to your local Citizens Fitness Stadium to have your right arm bar-coded. Henceforth you will be required to check in at the CFS each Monday, Wednesday and Friday for your “Citizen’s Fitness Training”. Your designated time is 9AM until 10:30AM.
Be certain to pause at the ATTENDANCE MONITOR to have your bar-code read and entered in the attendance roster.
Failure to report at required will be financially penalized, such penalties depending on frequency of “failure to obey the law”.
Yours in good health,
Your community director of wellness
>>> ... the causes of death will add up to ten times the number of people actually dying and well get wise to the agenda
That must be it. How wise you are.
They think it’s bad now, they ain’t seen nothing yet. Just wait until the Xbox generation gets older. They can sit inactively now for days moving nothing but their 2 thumbs.
an image of Winston Smith's forced exercise routine monitored by a remote bureaucrat. Time to dust off my copy of 1984...
Shouldn’t that be Czar of Wellness?
How's that again?
Soon, we shall see this:
"In a recent study, saliva has been found to cause cancer..............but only if swallowed in small amounts over a long period of time".
Now that they have Obamacare, these nanny staters have the tool to require that all citizens excercise regularly. That’ll take care of this latest endemic that will cause health care expenditures to rise...
Yep, we will require you to exercise because we now OWN your physical being. If you don’t then tell us about the view you have of the barrel of our government guns!
That’s not true. You need to use your index fingers for the buttons on the top of the controller...
That we are all required to earn credits for physical activity, or else.
That we are all required to earn credits for physical activity, or else.
Isn’t it better for the human species if the lazy among it die off?
Remember when we would see pictures like this and think, WOW, those folks sure think differently than us! That kind of stuff could never happen here! Now, we can see that they probably were forced to behave the way they did, as we will soon, through coercion by an out of control bunch of busybody Communists!
That's exactly what came to my mind.
I don’t believe this any more than I believe the liberal ‘global warming’ crap. Those who exercised by running are all getting their knees replaced, the folks into sailboat racing look 20 years older than they are, the yoyo dieters have courted memory loss... Sorry - I don’t believe liberal ‘experts’ anymore.
“Isnt it better for the human species if the lazy among it die off?”
Who says we’re lazy? I consider myself “efficient.”
Get ready to do those physical jerks (for your own good).
Nanny State PING!
Thanks for the ping!
I recently completed a program called GSP Rushfit put out by MMA Champ Georges St piere that you can do at home and lost fat and got in amazing shape in 8 weeks.
If anyone is interested in those home workout plans, this thing really kicked my butt but worked.

So there will be big money in creating the propaganda. But wait! There is more... There will be incentives!

We all know how the FedMob applies incentives.
And the fools refuse to see.
No wonder 0bamaCare is now projected to cost 7Xs as much as originally stated and hasn't even gone into effect yet. I said it long before it was the law; 0bamaCare will bury our economy and destroy the practice of medicine. This ship of fools is setting sail on a Viking funeral boat.
They may be onto something. I’ve charted it, and yes, physical inactivity does increase with age, but it was the far end of the chart that convinced me. After death, it appears to cease altogether. Who knew?
