I’d love to know where you get your figures from!

Sorry, I guess I did mix things up.

"According to the 2001 census, 1.54 million Muslims live in England and Wales, where they form 3.3% of the population. According to research by The Times, there were 2.4 million Muslims in the United Kingdom in 2009. In 2010, a study by the Pew Research Center argued that there were 2.869 million Muslims in Britain as a whole.[2]"

While you're arguing percentages, it only takes one or two bad guys to avoid detection and commit an act of terrorism. The size of the population simply makes it harder to sift the intel to identify potential threats.

Once again underestimating Tommy's pluckiness.

Nice to have our old and sometimes unappreciated friends sticking up for us. I take no pleasure in any way at what could be a bit of a mess. One could hand out the kudos for the Berlin Olympics prior to WW2. The peak of efficiency and recorded by "Triumph of the Will" documentary by a German woman.

Trouble was that old Adolf could not keep his nose out of Poland. The fool could have basked in all the glory he wanted. Ah well.....

I was a young man starting work in post war England in 1948. I did not have the money to go to nearby Wembley for a looksee. I remember the losing efforts track and field for a gold medal. Poor the English people were, by today's standards. So bloomin' optimistic though. Everyone had a job- if they wanted one. Few bore the actual civilian population of Germany any real ill will- 'cept the British communists, who were detested by George Orwell.

If I had my way, I would just have the Olympics in one permanent place, Athens would have made the most sense, if Greece wasn’t so messed up.

Mr. Libra I noticed lots of Anglophiles here including me. So thank you for the compliment and appreciation from across the pond in Old Virginia.

Whoops! I did some fast checking after the post (a usual slapdash habit to post first, then check. ).

Leni Riefenstahl a brilliant exponent of the film as propaganda, eulogized the rise of the Nazi Party in 1935. However she was commissioned to film the 1936 Olympics and produced the much acclaimed film. This showed human Greek gods.....er blonde Nordic type atheletes resplendent. It was called Olympia.

Your post number 2.

On the 1972 Olympic Games and the massacre of the Israeli athletes, I could not believe it had skipped my mind. Yes, perhaps a fault of the German critics, though at least they are free to run down their former adversaries.

I might get by with another digression and I grin when I read of the Battle of Waterloo. The Germans saved the Duke of Wellington. Blucher, was the name.

He didn’t have much fun in Stalingrad, either, did he?

Not much fun in Stalingrad, no.

You seem to be implying that the fewer muslims in the population, the greater the threat. That’s certainly at odds with the general concensus on here. :)

The first games awarded to Germany was in 1916. That one got canceled. They did host the 1936 Winter and Summer games (the first one ever to have NOCs boycott). And you touched on 1972.

Letting the Germans host he games is a bad idea.

No. Any number is bad. The more you have, the more you have to track. It only takes a small number of determined bad guys to perform a heinous act.

Pluckiness ain’t gonna help them on this one. The ticket fiasco really seems to have cooked this goose. Lots of empty hotel rooms, lots of empty seats.

Marshall Ney.

"The bravest of the brave". Another military man sacrificed by the political system. May he rest in peace.

Britain has hosted many major sports events in the last decade (European soccer finals, the Commonwealth Games etc), and not one had any trouble.

Given your debacle in 1996, I dont think Americans should be sitting in judgement.

The Brits were making a big fuss about the Euro 2012 tournament claiming that blacks shouldn’t go to Poland and Ukraine, they might get killed, all Poles are racists, yadda yadda yadda...so turnabout is fair play.

1—See my reply to faucetman, which is relevant to your point also.

2—The Muslim pop of the UK is 4.6% overall.

3—No, the vast majority of British Muslims are normal, decent people who abide by the law and dont support terrorism. There IS a vile and dangerous minority, but they are just that, a minority.
