Romney Campaign Disses Palin: Throws Party Unity Overboard
The American Spectator ^ | 7.17.12 | Jeffrey Lord

Posted on 07/18/2012 10:15:59 AM PDT by CaptainKrunch

Here we go.

So now come all these news reports (just for example, here, here, here, and here) that Team Romney has decided deliberately -- deliberately -- to trash Sarah Palin by not inviting her to the Tampa convention.

And they expect people to rally to their candidate when they are out there sticking their finger in the eye of the party's base? Sending a message to the Tea Party to go take a flying leap?

If this is true, and no less than Governor Palin herself has said she is uninvited, one can only wonder:

What are these wizards of smart thinking?

Historically, people who are trashed by their own party employ the one entirely fatal weapon they have at their disposal: they stay home in November.

Having a unified convention is Politics 101.

Dr. Socialized health care could assuage a lot of worry and bring a lot of conservatives back on board if he would nominate Newt Gingrich or Michelle Bachman as VP.  Sadly, I think mittens is an unrepentant socialist and has no intentions of rallying the true conservative base.  I don't think he wants a red blooded American Christian conservative anywhere near the seat of power like a VP would be as next in line to the Presidency in 2016 or 2020.

Jeffrey Lord is going to die on the hill of Sarah Palin?

I’ve sent Sarah’s PAC plenty of money, but I’m not going to ignore the electable alternative to Obama because Sarah Palin is not invited to speak at the convention. Please.

The enemy is Obamugabe, and I will do everything I can to defeat him in November.

Heh.

Mittens and his crew are probably afraid that if Palin shows up at the convention, she will be nominated by acclamation.

Somewhere there’s an analysis that’s been completed by Mitt’s BOGSATT (Bunch of Guys Sitting Around The Table) which looks at will I get more votes from far right by welcoming Sarah or lose more from middle by welcoming her. It’s clear what their answer was. I doubt it was the correct one but more closely matches Mitt’s position.

This article talks about people staying home this november.... DO NOT STAY AT HOME... take a stand, go to the polls and vote for the conservatives regardless of party affiliation... go with the libertarian or constitution party for president, and elect the conservatives down the ticket...

The only way to poke the new world order socialistic gop-e in the eye, is to poke them in the eye..

send mittens down in flames...

if they send us lemons (mcromney) do not make lemonade out of it, stomp on it and destroy it..

the gop-e wants to play nice with everyone except the base, then the base needs to get mean... I mean plum mad dog mean

Tell ‘em to F%$# off this november.....

Romney thinks he can win the presidency without the Tea Party?

Let him try.

Many conservatives are one hair away from staying home on election day, to let things get MUCH worse before they can get better.

They are obviously afraid of her. Otherwise they’d invite her and make use of her.

Romney is where he is now, about to be crowned by the GOPe, because his agents worked from within McCain’s campaign in 2008 to undermine Sarah Palin and to persuade McCain to behave in a stupid way that would lose the election.

That left the road open for Romney’s Turn in 2012.

So, if anyone thinks that voting for Romney is a good way to put an end to the evils of Obamarama, think again. It was Romney, Rove, and pals who gave us Obama in the first place. And like Obama, Romney is a gay loving, child-killing, self-loving, entitled-from-birth, socialist country-destroyer.

I’m not surprised she’s not invited to speak; she hasn’t endorsed the nominee.

I imagine she will be at the convention courtesy of Fox News.

Who in his right mind wants to go to such an anachronistic exercise as a political convention? Do you feel the burning desire to wear a crazy hat?

Conventions have outlived their usefulness and should be abandoned. The electors from each state can meet in a central location and certify the nominee. That shouldn’t take three or four days of inane activities and bad singing.

The media would hate this change because it would prove how irrelevant they are, and they couldn’t sneer disapprovingly at the GOP for three nights in prime time.

Romney is alienating his base without having any sure way of replacing it with “independents.”

This is a sure way for him to actually begin to lose the election.

In univiting Palin, Romney is comporting himself like a loser, not a winner. If Romney continues on his path, he is sure to lose, and at the convention, his nomination as the official candidate of the GOP is not “assured.”

People will NOT vote for an Obama lite Romney. People will
vote for an Anti-Obama Romney.

So far Romney is conducting himself like a POS, not like presidential material.Hardly what you would call “inclusive.”

Romney’s tent just got MUCH , much smaller.

And it is too late to grow that tent bigger. Every mistake he makes is pretty much now un-fixable.

Slightly different perspective : Party unity is intact and doing just fine -- but -- Wake Up! Conservatives, we are not part of The Party any longer. The GOPe is in control and has decided we are not liberal enough. So we either get our "asses in line" and sacrifice our principles and conservative philosophy to make way for continued fundamental transformation of this nation, or ... we don't. I vote "we don't". Go Virgil Goode!

What else to expect from Romney, it was his surrogates who went after Palin after the 2008 election.

The articles you linked to appear to be speculating that Palin has not been invited. Has the Romney camp even sent out a list of invitees? Who HAS been invited to speak? Do we know yet?

I think we should hold our fire on this one until we know for sure and not get into a bunch of infighting over nothing - which is probably the aim of the news outlets putting this speculation out there.

I agree that Palin would be a tremendous speaker at the GOP convention. On the other hand, if she does not come out and endorse Romney, I can't hold a grudge against him for not inviting her.

FRiend, there are two electable choices in November. That is the real world. Our saviour is not running for President...only two flawed men.

One is deeply deeply flawed. He hates America. He hates Capitalism. He hates the Constitution.

The other is flawed, he has gotten plenty wrong in his life. He also happens to be a successful capitalist. And he doesn’t hate the Constitution.

Not choosing is choosing.

I have chosen.

Agreed. I'd rather gridlock Obama, and pursue him with impeachment, with a solidly conservative House and near-to-it-Senate than "make lemonade" and deal with Obama-like policies driven from the Republican wing weakening our brand and destroying our progress over the next eight years (and following that will be at least another four from a genuine democrat liberal). Sacrifice this queen and win the match. I've no desire to wait 12 years for a chance at starting over.

Yes, you’re right.

I just hope these numskulls know that what goes around comes around, and once Romney is in office HE will be the one whose anti-America agenda we will fight. And the more he kicks us in the teeth right now, the harder he’s gonna get kicked in the gonads then.

The “Don’t Tread on Me” flag flies regardless of who is in power. We’ll help put you in place, Mittens, in order to keep out the Hitler-Wannabe. But once you’re there we will do everything in our power to keep you from having any power to implement the crappy policies you’ve hung your hat on in MA. And a big part of that will be electing people down-ticket who will neuter your liberal plans. You will learn to work with us, or you will be banging your head against a wall for the next 4 years at least.

It’s said that it’s not good to have any one party controlling all 3 branches of government. Well... the GOP-e has ensured that there will ALWAYS be an opposition party, because the people we’re stuck electing at a national level are always more crappy than the people we can elect at a more local or state level, where we the people actually make the choice. It will always be us against the GOP-e. In this case, it will be our choice (the down-ticket folks) versus the GOP-e’s choice in the White House.

First, these “stories” are intended to drive a wedge into the GOP for sole purpose of re-electing Obama. If you cannot see that, you are blind.

Second, I am tired of crybaby conservatives. To this day, in multiple threads, FReepers cannot agree on a single candidate (that was running) who would be better than Romney.

We got Romney because conservatives split up their support. No conspiracy, no shenanigans.

It’s our own fault.

When enough conservatives grow up and realize their quest for the “perfect” candidate is what keeps nominating RINOs, then we will have a decent nominee.

Until then, stop the crying and conspiracy nonsense....it is beneath conservatism.

you are kinda on the right track...

Here is the plan of the gop-e(socialists)..

fubo is hated, even by a sizable number of dems..

these dems needed an option beside fubo..

enter mcromney, a lifelong socialist...

The plan is to kill two birds with one stone, steal enough dem voters to overcome the conservatives that would never vote for a socialist.

there will be a sufficient number of gullible suckers, so called faux conservatives who will be bullied and tricked into voting for a socialist, with the illusion that the house and senate will keep him in line (if you believe this, just check out 2000 to 2006, did spending get in line? did our freedoms get restricted?)...

so, the goal here is to get enough dems over to the pubs to render the conservative wing useless. The conservatives can then be dumped over the side like garbage.

The only way to stop this is to stop it. Do not be a sucker, do not be fooled by the party rhetoric. Do not vote for mcromney.

If you are a true conservative, and believe in conservative principals, and have personal integrity, and the guts that our founding fathers had, the the time has come people.

The gop-e can be put out of business. We have the numbers to do it.

Do we have the guts?

I do....

I am the 15%

This is baseless speculation. Who's to say whether Palin wants to be speaking at the convention. For all we know at this point Sarah Palin could be the VP pick.

She understands what it takes to win, how important this election is; Palin is focused on down ballot races and securing good nominees.

Who are these people to play red sweater harpies? Has Palin complained or confirmed she's been exiled? No.

This is just an attempt to sew seeds of discord because some people really want to see Obama reelected... they are that masochistic and angry at America.

Dead wrong perspective. FReepers pretty much agreed throughout the primaries that NEARLY ALL the other candidates were FAR SUPERIOR to Romney. You might have gotten a little push back against Huntsman, Paul, and Johnson. But aside from those few exceptions, we would have bit the bullet and pulled the lever for ANY one of them. Romney is *THE* candidate we marked from the get go as the one we WOULD NOT support. We may have disagreed who was the best, but there was little disagreement as to who was the worst. And Romney falls squarely in that camp.

As with many things political, things do not always turn out the ways they were intended. Mittens is giving Palin a bigger platform as the spokesperson for the Tea Party and true conservatives than she would have were she to be seemingly “incorporated” into his campaign by being invited. Palin needs to continue to focus on down ticket politics on behalf of the Tea Party around the country.

I was extremely disappointed when Sarah Palin decided against running for the 2012 Republican presidential nomination but I sucked it up and backed Herman Cain, then, when he was driven out of the primary race I backed Rick Santorum. Unfortunately, Santorum failed to win enough votes in the primaries and Romney, my absolute last choice, became the 'putative' GOP presidential nominee to oppose Barack Obama for the presidency. What to do?

Well, I could vow to stay home on election day and spend the summer posting messages on FR growling about Romney being a dirty, low down socialist that we all should hate and despise and definitely not give our vote as this would be tantamount to treason. Or, I could face the reality that Barack Hussein Obama actually is a dirty, low down socialist - at best - who is determined to destroy the U.S. economy and by doing so, weaken our power while 'redistributing' the nations wealth to those he deems more 'deserving' than the people producing the wealth our government lives on.

There is no argument that Mitt Romney is not in the political/social mold of Ronald Reagan - by a long shot - but he is in no way a redistributive Marxist like Obama. For all the caterwauling on FR about Romney and attendant condemnation for anyone daring to question the judgement of the Romney-haters, I've decided to vote, not for Romney, but against Obama and his treasonous administration. He must be removed before he can do irreparable damage to our nation - and he is very close to achieving that goal, already. Grumbling and bad-mouthing Romney won't change that but electing Romney, who will look almost conservative after Obama, will. Thus, he'll get my vote. The alternative - another four years of the Marxist Obama - is simply unthinkable.

I’m starting to wonder if these “Sara’s being dissed!” stories are really plants by the Obama team.

Palin will be attending the convention as a Fox news commentator. That’s it.

I was an ABR (anybody but Romney) in the primaries. We lost. I don’t like it, but we lost. Romney is the nominee. There’s no use crying over it, and there’s no use trying to regain our dignity or self-worth by insisting one of ours be given some special attention.

There’s a more important problem: dethroning Obama. That’s the goal I’m focused on now. Anything that gets in the way of that goal (like my pride) has to go.

I am now an ABREO (anyone but Romney except Obama).
