(CBS News) President Obama and Mitt Romney are effectively tied in the race for the presidency, according to a new CBS News/New York Times survey.

Forty-seven percent of registered voters nationwide who lean towards a candidate back Romney, while 46 percent support the president. Four percent are undecided. The one percentage point difference is within the survey's three point margin of error.

Romney leads by eight points among men; the president leads by five points among women.

The president's supporters are more likely to strongly back their candidate. Fifty-two percent strongly favor Mr. Obama, while just 29 percent of Romney voters strongly back the presumptive Republican nominee.

That’s a hoot! I couldn’t remember how bad the stats were at that time. Thanks for the input and reminding me. I do appreciate it.

Blessings, Bobo

"If CBSNEWYORKTIMES says its even, then Romney is up by 5."

He almost is, if you split the 4% Undecided 80/20 under the Incumbent Rule.

Romney’s ahead with registered voters? Wow, then he’s likely several points ahead with likely voters.

Not good for Obama’s campaign, not good at all. Especially after he’s played his best attack on Romney and it basically fizzled.

46% is Obama’s ceiling. Romney should win comfortably as long as he doesn’t blow it.

Americans are ready to throw Obama out. As long as Romney continues to speak in complete sentences, isn’t caught with a dead girl or live boy in his office, and doesn’t call Obama the N-word in one of the debates, he’ll be the next President.

Could not agree more there is very little Romney could do to blow this.

what do you expect with two looser candidates.

wasn’t there a poll a month or so ago, that said only about 17% of each party’s voters liked their party’s candidate choice.....

Is Rubio Constitutionally eligible for VPOTUS? Is there some way I can call up the FR GODS OF NATURAL BIRTH and have them explain Jui Solaris or whatever again.

LMAO

No, according to the most accepted version here on FR I don't think he is.

Plugs is going to be put out to pasture, for sure. He's just too silly to continue.

Dammit, I STILL say there's a chance that the Mombasa MF ain't gonna be the one for the Dems. "Ill health," "Needs time with the Family," his job, IMHO, is to take a dive and let Hillary consolidate the Socialist Revolution.

He may also succumb to a Trump/Sununu Truth Attack on the BC issue. This identity crisis is nothing new. He was asked off the Illinois Bar for failing to disclose ... denying in fact ... that he had used the Soetoro handle. Of course, he also denied drug use, Traffic Tickets, etc. Strangely enough, there is no BC offered at that time, either.

So maybe the question is, "Who are the Dems going to run in his place, and who for vP?"

“They had Reagan behind in the polls with carter”

True, but that was a different time.

They have a lot of tricks in store for us. And just in case, they’ve lawyered up.

“This poll was conducted by telephone from July 11-16, 2012 among 1,089 adults nationwide”

Poll not even registered voters much less likely voters just adults.

When the Republican is the challenger and ahead in the internal polls (the only polls that matter because candidates pay big bucks to have access to them), the media narrative is always of the "dead-heat" "horse-race" variety when we are still months away from the actual election.

Only as we get closer to the election will the gap start to widen. Then on election eve, the public polls reflect the reality of the situation so that the pollsters can claim that they were accurate and thus preserve their reputations for the future.

I was just thinking the same thing. If it had been 0bama up by one point, the headline would have read “0bama Leads Romney in the Polls”.

Is Sununu hitting the BC issue?

He has been on quite a roll since coming out from wherever he's been hiding for the last decade or two. In fact, he's more on fire than I've ever seen him. Let's hope it's because there's never been anyone as criminal as barky to attack and NOT because there's never been someone as RINO-esque as milt to defend. Probably some of both.

No one is going to hit him with the BC issue not even Rush or Levin. It has no traction except with a few diehards on FR.

This election will be decided by a few independents in a few states whose main concern is right track ...wrong track
