Breitbart News spoke to James Michael Holmes, the Tea Party member falsely identified this morning by ABC News' Brian Ross and George Stephanopoulos on Good Morning America as the possible suspect in the mass shooting early this morning at a screening of the new Batman movie, The Dark Knight Rises. He is a 52-year-old Hispanic conservative who joined the Tea Party after becoming disillusioned with the Republican party.
"It was freaky," said Holmes, describing his reaction when ABC News speculated that he was the culprit who entered a crowded theater and opened fire on dozens of innocent men, women, and children. He disconnected his telephone and says that he is worried about members of his family who might be contacted by the media.
ABC News has since corrected its initial report, but tried to share the blame with "social media" and "members of the public" at first:
An earlier ABC News broadcast report suggested that a Jim Holmes of a Colorado Tea Party organization might be the suspect, but that report was incorrect. Several other local residents with similar names were also contacted via social media by members of the public who mistook them for the suspect.
Now the correction has been updated, with ABC News and Brian Ross taking full responsibility, and apologizing:
An earlier ABC News broadcast report suggested that a Jim Holmes of a Colorado Tea Party organization might be the suspect, but that report was incorrect. ABC News and Brian Ross apologize for the mistake, and for disseminating that information before it was properly vetted.

Typical of the media. They shoot from the hip and then say “whoopsie” our bad? Now this poor guy will be harassed by who knows who because of them.
Any one named Holmes that was contacted by the media assuming they were the shooter needs to sue the crap out of that media, apology or not. This crap is out of control especially when the shooter was in custody
Hold ‘em accountable.
Mr. Holmes, may I suggest you say nothing more and contact the most rabid, media-hating lawyer you can find...
and sue the obama out of them. Go for the jugular, they certainly wouldn’t hesitate to do the same to you.
This is now the DNC’s worst nightmare... put a HISPANIC TEA PARTY member on every news outlet whom was FALSELY accused by the Leftist Lame media!
LIBEL.
"Never let the truth or the facts get in the way of a good America-bashing story!" - The journalists' Hypocritic Oath.
Instead of issueing a statement Ross should be apologizing on the air every 5 minutes.
Proof? We don’ need no steenking proof. We’re with the MSM.
LIBEL.
MALICE...anti-Tea Party and racist media
You can’t un-ring a bell.
Were I king, I would shut down ABC and launch an IRS investigation into all corporate officers, employees, and advertisers.
An expensive lawsuit has a chance of getting Brian Ross fired. And there’s no denying that ABC has the kind of deep pockets ambulance chasers have wet dreams about. Which is why ABC and Ross both apologized. Hopefully too late for them to avoid paying out a bunch of cash to Holmes.
I agree. When a conservative apologizes for something, it's never good enough, it's never accepted. No amount of apologies are considered sufficient. The person is expected to pay for it with their career. The same should apply here. Take these bastards for every cent they have!
Emotional attacks rather than logical ones....it’s lynch mob politics. It is promoted by liberalism.
Even breitbart seems to think that identifying this guy as an Hispanic is more important than identifying him as an American. The left has won in battle of taking control of our discussions.
If i was this guy I’d be telling ABC to get their checkbook out.
I’ve never sued anyone, but I sure do agree with you. The MSM need to be restrained from their libelous behavior.
While it may be true that they got the information from outside the ABC organization, that doesn't excuse the fact that they friggin tripped over themselves to report it, rather than investigate first. The whole focus of the "apology" is to blame the source rather than their own libtard agenda for making them careless and irresponsible.
[ Even breitbart seems to think that identifying this guy as an Hispanic is more important than identifying him as an American. The left has won in battle of taking control of our discussions. ]
We have to use the enemies’ own tools against them!
They are the ones that always list race and pit the Hispanics against the Tea Party in ALL OF THEIR NARRATIVES!
Stating the race of this man and the fact that he is a Tea Party member DESTROYS their BLATANTLY FAALSE narritive.
The media was just hoping beyond hope that this was true.
Brian Ross is such an idiot.
He should be fired over this.
Make ABC squeal in pain at the size of the check they’ll be forced to write.
I am glad he is on our side! Godspeed Mr. Holmes.
I agree...Mr. Holmes should sue for an amount that makes ABC squeal like pigs...Ross and Georgie should be fired.
Remember, it’s the narrative that’s important - not the facts.
I’ll still never get over the incendiary way the media tried to make Palin complicit in the Tucson mass-murder. Within hours, the media’s constantly rotating video loop was of footage of blood on the pavement, Giffords, a photo of the little girl who was killed, and Sarah Palin walking up on stage at a Tea Party rally. Over and over again. It was akin to Soviet or Nazi-era propaganda films and the way visuals were manipulated to tie separate things together, and deliberately arousing intense emotions of hatred.
Anyway, I hope this gent goes ballistic on the media. They are evil scum.
Sue them, Mr. Holmes. Sue them till they bleed from the ears.
You would have thought the media would have learned by their Martin/Zimmerman fiasco. But no .....
You would have thought the media would have learned by their Martin/Zimmerman fiasco. But no .....
“actual malice or reckless disregard” for the truth?”
Did ABC, through its agents George S. et al., demonstrate the above?
Possibly. They wanted to smear the Tea Party. Smearing a large amorphous group like the Tea Party is one thing while defaming an individual is another.
Georgie-boy may have left ABC open to a defamation lawsuit. Liability will turn on the basis ABC had for pointing a finger at JM Holmes. (And he’s `Hispanic’ Heh heh heh)
Is this guy a “white” Hispanic?
It’s a tactic.
It’s a given he is an American.
The left needs to have it drilled into them that not only did they libel a tea partier, but also one of their protected classes, an Hispanic.
So true, we need to be as loving as a dove but as cunning as a wolf, fight them on their turf, yet rise above them, it can be done!
Finally joined the NRA this morning. WHY? Because I’m well aware of all the usual suspects that will be coming out of the wood work, and realized it’s time to put up, or shut up.
How many major news items are ignored by the MSM because the truth does not support their ideology?
I'm getting an image of Winston Smith editing history to fit with the current political truth
I just got an automated response from ABC:

IOW no response at all.
I was looking for that post.
I’m sure they did it in purpose and for obvious reasons.... I highly doubt it had anything to do with being politically correct....
The fact that he is Hispanic is germane to the discussion, because the media wants to portray the Tea Party as a white supremacist organization. Therefore, anytime we can highlight the fact that it isn’t, we undermine the media narrative.
Before this is all over, former heavyweight boxing champion Larry Holmes will probably be contacted and asked if he knows the shooter.
There is a reason they are called the ‘enemedia’, ‘enemy’ + ‘media’ that needs an ‘enema’.
Dumb asses.
"It's sad that that in the midst of this tragedy the liberal media is falling back, as they have done in the case of George Zimmerman, on the democratic notion that Hispanic males are automatically guilty when they can be associated with violence. This same stereotype of Hispanic males as heartless killers was persued by the White House in their Fast and Furious operation, resulting in the deaths of hundreds of innocent people. It is a notion that the White and their press surrogates should abandon as it serves neither justice or truth."
So he’s a “White” Hispanic.
A comment made on another site....lol
“The name Brian Ross shows up on multiple sex offender registries in several states. Now, we don’t know if this is the same Brian Ross, we’ll keep looking at that.”
He and the Tea Party should sue the as*es of of ABC NEWS, DISNEY, and Brian ROSS and Georgie Stepinitpolis! Oughta demand they are FIRED as well! This isn’t the first or hundreth time as well that these two have pulled this kind of Defamation for their own Political Agenda!
James Michael Holmes != James Eagan Holmes (Dec. 13, 1987)
What qualifies Brian Ross to be a reporter?
That's just it. By ABC standards, it was properly vetted. They presented the story first to their political editor/officer who reviewed it and said, "This is exactly the political angle we are looking for. Go ahead and run it".
