CBS News) More information about the firearms used in the deadly shooting in Aurora, Colo. during the midnight "Dark Knight Rises" screening has come to light. A law enforcement source close to the investigation told CBS News that all the guns were purchased within the last six months, which is considered a "short time to the crime."

The guns were all purchased legally between May 22 and July 6 at three Colorado gun stores.

James Holmes purchased a Smith and Wesson .233 high powered semi-automatic rifle at Gander Mountain gun store in Thornton, Colo, according to the law enforcement source. He also bought a .40 caliber Glock pistol at Gander Mountain gun store in Aurora, Colo. Another .40 caliber glock handgun and a Remington 870 shotgun were purchased at Bass Pro Shops in Denver, Colo.

Wonder how long we have to wait to find out he had symptoms of violence towards animals and other people prior to this which was reported to the police and ignored.

There is a reason that these seem to happen again and again in liberal bastions.

So where did he buy all the SWAT gear (full body armor) and tear gas canister? and where and when did he train in using the weapons and the tear gas equipment? You dont just go buy this stuff, load up, put on a gas mask, and go shoot 71 people in the dark

Are you really this ignorant? Or are you just from Noo Yawk City where nobody has the freedom to buy a Big Gulp, much less body armor?

I can buy these things any day of the week and twice on Sunday. I've been seriously considering some body armor, for the civil war that will break out after THE ONE'S re-selection in November.

And training? My 48-yo WIFE has more tactical weapons training than most cops, and she is just a citizen.

“I’ve been putting off buying a gun.”

Procrastination is a bad thing- quit putting it off. I suggest doing a lot of research, budgeting, and some introspection- firearms are not toys, nor are they absolute power incarnate. They are tools, like shovels or hammers. Unlike those tools, you have to devote considerable thought to their use- firearms are specialized tools, and do not all have the same capabilities. That’s what the research is for. And if you are starting out at scratch, knowing nothing of guns, take a gun safety class first. Its a good first step.

Only 228 half-way through the year. Do you mean metropolitan area? I don’t think that’s going to increase it by 4x.

Anyway, it looks to take about 9.5 days for 12 murders in Chicago. Are they more likely on the weekends?

So true. The lack of non stop right wing bashing indicates with some surety that he is a hard core leftist.

I'm guessing they called the .233 an AR-15

As for the training, that’s a hell of a good question. Like you said, you just don’t load up, put on a gas mask and start shooting people in the dark. That requires some amount of prior training, I would speculate.

Why? This guy was obviously pretty bright, and none of that equipment is particularly complicated.

So basically the fact he has “so many guns” (I’ve heard this several times today) makes me look even MORE loopy based on the number of guns I own (start at double his, and go up.)

I like the .223. Its a great universal cartridge.

But I have to question the use of the words “high powered” to describe it.

Yes, it is a .22 on steroids and as such MIGHT be considered “high powered.” But when I think of high powered, I’m thinking 30.06, .308, 7.62x54R, something that starts with .3xxx. .50BMG is definitely a HIGH POWERED round.

But I guess I’m p!$$!ng in the wind by thinking that a nitwit journalist should know such a thing. Hey, maybe she does, but the gratuitous use of fantastic, sensationalist descriptors is what this is all about.

Probably a typo for .223. But there is no one at See B S who would know the difference - except perhaps the NCIS writers.
