Thus far, there has been no attempt to flesh out just why his mother was reported to have reacted as she did, that they had the right guy. She knew, whether that means something more specific or that he had been erratic and perceivably a danger to the public, no one is saying.
His father is listed as “Senior.” This means there is a “Junior.” No mention of siblings.
No attempt to rectify the early identification by a Muslim name, either. Could he have identified himself by that name, sort of like that little Marin County cretin? No indication.
White, churchgoing, highly intelligent, quiet loner is all that is being written. It fits the infernal narrative. Therefore, it's suspect in my mind, given the loose threads. He's not what he's been purported to be thus far.
I’m sorry but I take a form of Vicodin for my back. Have for years. I get no feeling of euphoria and certainly no feeling that I can do whatever I like. No anger either (unless Hubby doesn’t pick up his dirty clothes for the umpteenth time that week LOL). As for judgement, I seem to have more sense about the use of Vicodin than you!

This was the work of a devoted anarchist who was a member of the Occupy Black Bloc, the violent wing of OWS.
He was ready for a fight. The body armor, leg armor, throat guards, helmet and vicodin show this man was ready for combat. The vicodin would allow him to continue fighting if a bullet got through his protection.
The tear gas served three purposes. It concealed his location, created panic and caused eye and throat irritaton to anyone who may have had a firearm.
10 police officers could have been in that theater with their weapons and James Holmes would have probably killed them all.

I don’t know about the question of people with really high IQs. However, I do know of a suicide in my own family that almost fit this pattern. The individual, to whom I will give the pseudonym of “Joe” for this discussion, suffered a severe brain injury in an auto accident when he was about 12 and appeared to recover from it. Indeed, he got into the IT industry when he was inis 40’s and was doing so well he received a significant promotion and was viewed as a “stellar” performer. Nobody outside the family ever knew about his brain injury. Over Christmas of 2010-2011 he went into a manic high that I will not describe further, other than to say it showed he had something seriously wrong. Come summer of 2011 his roller coaster dropped him into a profoundly depressed low. At that point he meticulously planned and committed a suicide.
All of that, with the carefully concealed illness of a highly intelligent man and the functionally rational planning of the final act, is eerily similar to what appears to have happened in Denver.

That’s exactly why my betting about Holmes is that he had a concealed mental illness, well known to his parents, that became suddenly and catastrophically apparent.

My point is that *neuroscience* seems to me to be awfully specific for an undergrad degree. I have known people with degrees in Neuropsychology and they had PhDs.
I did a quick search and actually, this seems to be a boutique program in Social Sciences and Humanities and usually results in a B.A. It blends courses in chemistry, biology, physics, psychology, math and computer sciences. Topics include hormones and behavior, psychopharmacology, genome biology and immunology.
It appears to be a tarted-up psych degree. If you accept that many psych students are looking for self-explanations, then it could be the shooter knew full well he had problems and was looking for an answer.
His father is in the same field of neuroscience, having been involved in the creation of predictive modeling software that went beyond statistical inference and into psychological profiling. The company was bought out by Fair-Isaacs, the providers of the ubiquitous FICO score used in determining creditworthiness. Prior to this, his father was involved in related work for DARPA.

When I read 100mg Vicodin, I assumed he meant 100mg Hydrocodone, or 10 Norco tabs. If “Vicodin” that’s 20 tabs, or about 7000mg Tylenol (maybe 6500?), which would make you sicker than crap very fast. What is that, 3X max daily allowed?

Or maybe antidepressants. I've seen those things to weird things to peoples' personalities, and erode emotional depth, whether it be positive or negative emotions.
