GOP Rep tries to ban gay marriages on military bases
POLITICO ^ | July 19 2012 | Kate Nocera

Rep. Steve King (R-Iowa) introduced an amendment on Thursday that would ban same-sex marriage on any military facility and prohibit any military chaplain from performing gay marriage ceremonies.

The Iowa Republican argued that President Barack Obama and the Secretary of Defense were “contravening” the Defense of Marriage Act by allowing military chaplains to perform same-sex marriages on bases.

King said a directive from the Secretary of Defense that said “a military chaplain may officiate any private ceremony on or off a military installation” was “not just permission that’s implied encouragement to conduct same-sex marriages on our military bases conducted by our chaplains presumably who are all under the payroll of the U.S. government.”

Military chaplains may decide to not perform same-sex marriages but King said any chaplain that did so was violating DOMA as the law of the land. The amendment would mean a full ban.

“The Defense of Marriage Act means this: Marriage means only a legal union between one man and one woman as husband and wife. And the word ‘spouse’ only refers to a member of the opposite sex who is a husband or a wife. Pretty simple statute being contravened by the president of the United States as exercised through the Secretary of Defense,” he said. “This amendment prohibits the use of military facilities or the pay of military chaplains for being used to contravene the defense of marriage act.”

Rep. Norm Dicks (D-Wash.) called King’s amendment “contentious and discriminatory.”

King “knows that current law already prohibits same-sex spouses from independently shopping at military commissaries, using base gyms or benefiting from subsidized dental and health care,” Dicks said. “We should have a debate on the effects of DOMA on our service members and their families, but introducing this contentious and discriminatory amendment is not the place.”

The House will vote on the amendment Thursday afternoon as part of the 2013 Defense Appropriations bill.

Interesting how politico wrote the headline. Instead of GOP (or Rep. King) making sure the law is followed, it seems as though we are the ones violating the law. Not that I should expect anything less from Godless liberals.

I think it’s a damn shame that the U.S. military is being forced to participate in Barry’s homosexual freak show.

I would like to Thank Rep. King for trying, but unfortunately he is spitting into the wind.

If we are lucky the Government will allow Catholic Chaplains to refuse to participate in this travesty, but right now as it stands they may be tossing Catholic Chaplains right out of the Military if they refuse.

If I was in al Queda, I’d be laughing too.

The US military seems more interested in fighting for Gay Parades than it does fighting terrorism. :(

I agree, well done for/from Steve King..

Up until about 2009, I was considering going back into the military (have 2 branches behind me)... Now, No Way, No How!

More info is out there as to what is disrupting/destroying our country (UR, but not allowed here)..

This has been in the works for the last 70+ years, and is ‘FINALLY’ having effect :/
WE NEED to all grow some balls and speak up... and I stick my foot in my own mouth since I am no longer in the states..
BUT, My own father warned me of this happening. The last time I spoke with him (he passed in 2010..).

BTW... He was a high lvl Deputy Sheriff.., and I am reluctant to speak more of it because of the COP HATE-fest here :/ (BTW, I was a Deputy Sheriff before I came to Japan.. and I NEVER saw what other people describe (from “PO-PO”)... although, I am sure it is different depending on the area/state. (I was Deputy in West Texas.. we were all honest and did our duty to the people; The local PD, on the other hand, could be pricks when we crossed jurisdiction).

For those not ‘in the know’.. Texas LEO do NOT fall under Unions..

Wow.. sorry about going OT :/

I will still fight for the freedom of Americans. (That would include Canooks, and any other North American country that had a chance at freedom.)

Rep. Norm Dicks (D-Wash.) called King’s amendment “contentious and discriminatory.”

Aptly named fellow. Should have been the guest of honor at this happy gay occasion:

Ha, I guess that Dem from Washington’s name signifies that “dicks should be the new norm in marriage”. ; )

In any case they say a picture is worth a thousand words, and thousands of words do come to mind when I look at this pic.

this happy gay occasion:

A pair of sodomites joined together in unholy matrimony ... by a female officiant.

Rather than the usual question, I ask anyone to tell me what's RIGHT with this picture. (Okay, the bride isn't wearing white.)
