Tampa strip clubs take extra steps to cash in on RNC
Tampa Tribune ^ | July 20, 2012

TAMPA -- Strip clubs may not be the most politically correct venue for those attending the Republican National Convention, but that doesn't mean Tampa's well-known adult hot spots won't be ready for the influx of visitors.

One place is bringing in a stripper who looks like former vice presidential candidate Sarah Palin. There are major renovations taking place. And some nude clubs have already been giving potential customers a taste of the talent online.

"One place is bringing in a stripper who looks like former vice presidential candidate Sarah Palin." No word yet on if Charlotte plans something similar with Mizz Hillary, Nancy P. or Debbie W-S.

Yes, they are being featured at Club LesBos.

There are parts of Tampa where it seems every third building is a strip club. I wonder sometimes how they all stay in business.

Only the most desperate losers (read:Rats) go to “gentlemen’s clubs”.Of course that means that the press will be there in droves.

For some reason, the old Motley Crue song “Girls, Girls, Girls” and the Harley Davidson introduction is running through my head.

If they can find a stripper that beautiful, I’ll be impressed. My guess: a “look-alike” will be no better than Tina Fey - superficially similar in the same way that curdled milk is similar to whole milk, but nowhere near as appealing.

Well said, the milk analogy is perfect!

Geez, you must really have had something bad happen to you here in Tampa Bay, it's not the first time you've espoused your hatred of the area (I checked because I vaguely remember you discussing this in the past, and I've since moved here).

To each his or her own, though, I wouldn't be able to stand it in Manhattan either. God bless.

The strip club is actually missing a bet.

When Sarah Palin first got into the spotlight, her look was an overnight fashion sensation. Her hairstyle, glasses, and outfits were the trendy thing for women, despite horrifying the usual freaky fashionistas. Stores sold out of her preferred glasses frames and shoes.

What the strip club should have done is held a “Sarah Palin lookalike strip-off amateur night.” They could have even sold it as several events, such as a swimsuit competition, a wet t-shirt competition, and a stripping competition, with all the entrants going for the Sarah Palin look.

Their box office, for men *and* women, would have been huge.

Undoubtedly.

If you expressed a distaste for anchovies, would it not be absurd for someone to say that your dislike of them is rooted in some "bad experience with small fish; perhaps you nearly drowned in a goldfish bowl"?

Tampa is a cesspool. It's has for decades been a well known hub for pornography, the occult, "death-metal" music, sleazy "ministries" and, incidentally, it right next door where the legalized starvation-to-death of the helpless, disabled Terri Schiavo took place.

Deny for your own reasons, but they are your own reasons. You clearly have no concept of how corrupt every acre of that place is.

Sounds like a great idea, wished I had thought of it and had the resources and contacts to push for that at a local place, it probably would have done well.

Well, sure, it would be, but it's not uncommon for many to have a personally traumatic event happen to them and forever reflect upon the place it occurred in a negative light; such as divorce or death.

The way I see it, most transient areas have a level of sleaze not found in the more 'maturely developed' areas. One could point to Miami, or out west in fast-growing areas like Phoenix (and I won't even mention Las Vegas). Even Manhattan. As for Terri Schiavo, I don't know much about it, but it could have happened nearly anywhere in the US, it just so happened to be in Pinellas County.

I'm not really interested in debating "no, really! this city's great!" but more interested in why it stands out here rather than any other transient metro.

Having moved from upstate NY originally, I can definitely feel the effects, even in urban Florida, of the 'live and let live' vibe across the board, and Floridians' reluctance for government oversight. I (sort of) jokingly told my friend that if you can die of natural causes in Florida, you've won. But that gives me a refreshing sense of freedom unlike what one would experience back in NYS (and especially NYC). It's not for everyone, I guess - and that's what causes some of the slime to build up.

I was trying to think of a rejoinder that would ask how outraged the media would be if a club was going to do a stripper look-a-like for a democrat female, but I couldn’t think of any attractive well-known democrat female politicians to use.

Sorry, but how is your call for pictures any better than the strip club debasing her with a look-a-like? Both are suggestions that she should be seen as an object to be oggled.
