Feinstein: Election year not ideal for gun debate
Associated Press ^ | July 22, 2012

WASHINGTON (AP) — Sen. Dianne Feinstein says the nation needs to have a "sane" discussion on gun control and ban military-style assault weapons. But the California Democrat acknowledges that probably won't happen before the November election.

Feinstein tells "Fox News Sunday" that "people haven't rallied" in years because of the power and reach of the gun lobby, and that with the election looming, "it's a bad time to embrace a new subject."

I agree. Politicians trampling the Second Amendment is not a very good idea right now with the elections coming up. Public servants should always wait until AFTER the elections to stick it to We the People.

Translation: We know we'll lose our asses if we even attempt to pass gun legislation this close to the election.

Any “sane” discussion on gun control will necessarily exclude Sen. Feinstein.

LOL! Sounds like Pelosi's "The tax thing is a distraction" after calls were made for HER to show her tax returns.

Lots of land-mines out there for the Dems, and they know it.

Commies love guns too, and they don’t want their Democratic leaders taking them away. What dimwit Dianne is saying is that Democrats have forgotten the lesson they’ve learned in the past, and now they are ready to relearn it, but not when it will hurt them, not before an election.

Democrats should make this an opportunity to go after Hollywood again. That’s the ticket. Go after the big money donors. Go after the bad guys.

No, we need a sane discussion on the lengths of prison terms and other punishments that will be given to politicians that try to subvert the Constitution by implementing gun control.

I think we conservatives should clamor for gun control right now. It will put pressure on the Dems to toy with it; they know it is a vote-killer and will never implement it; a few more independents will see them for their true colors.

Wisconsin Republican Sen. Ron Johnson challenged Feinstein on Fox by saying the issue wasn't about guns, but rather "sick, demented individuals." Feinstein disagreed, saying "people use these weapons because they can get them."

Feinstein, you ignorant Fluke.

Ick’s nah on the gun ban ray…

[She’s saying wait and see if Barack Hussein is able to buy his way back into the WH, then we can really put the screws to those individuals who want to be able to defend themselves]

As a side note: Does anyone get the distinct impression that this mass murderer’s rampage {Let’s not use his name please} wanted to hand the DNC a ready made campaign issue?

This show was better than Meet The Press. No pro-gun voices there at all, just ignorant politicians who don’t know the difference between a “clip” and a “magazine”.

She is dead wrong. The dems need to strike while the iron is hot.

They need to push a new and expanded AWB. Make it illegal to own AW’s and magazines over 6 rounds, with mandatory turn-ins, felonies if caught in posession, etc.

They need to push this hard and force Obama to take a stand on it before the election.

“People haven’t “rallied for years” because of the power and reach of the gun lobby”

Rubbish. The gun lobby lobbies congress, not people. People want to protect themselves, Nancy.

Looks like Di-Fi can read the Tea (Party) leaves.

Even someone as radical as her has to know that even the best gun control IN THE WORLD (i.e., Norway) will not stop a nutcase. She obviously knows this is a losing crusade for her and is wise to end it now.

“Democrats should make this an opportunity to go after Hollywood again. That’s the ticket. Go after the big money donors. Go after the bad guys.”

I agree. It really seems like this guy was inspired by Batman much more than by the availability of guns. I think it’s clear that if we don’t want people thinking about mass murder, we should take steps to prevent the glorifying of it.

If that was his goal, I think it’s backfiring (LOL), just by Di-Fi’s ABJECT FEAR of debating the issue.

I think I have this figured out. Military style weapons ? Is that category going on looks? I say that because automatic weapons are already banned. So, they are talking about semi-autos. Now if they ban semi autos that look like military rifles, why would they not ban ALL semi autos? That is their long range plan.
