Yesterday afternoon, 28-year-old Dave Mullins and 31-year-old Charlie Craig stopped by Lakewood's Masterpiece Cakeshop to order their wedding reception cake -- what they hoped would be a rainbow-layered masterpiece decked out in teal and red frosting (their ceremony colors). Although they'll be reciting their vows in Provincetown, Massachusetts, in September, the couple plans to celebrate with a reception for friends and family in Denver in October.

Must be a slow news day. The fairies should just bake their own cake. I really don’t think they need to go whining to the “media”. It isn’t that big of a deal.
There’s a bakery in Oakland, CA that’s been around for a while, and has sold many wedding cakes. The wedding cake models are in the back of the store under display cases.
The cake models once had “bride and groom” (female and male) figurines on them.
Now the cake models on display have no figurines at all.
Then you can buy your cake and eat it too.
Really? In all of Denver they cannot find a shop to bake them a cake? Not to mention the myriad of confection shops owned by gays in every major city in the country. Unbelievable! Obviously the most clueless homosexuals in the U.S.
Really; just how hard can it be to find a homosexual friendly bakery to make a cake? This is nothing more than an attempt at extortion.
“It was the most awkward, surreal, very brief encounter”
Yeh for the heterosexual owner of the bakery.
Bravo Mr. Phillips....this is still a free country and Mr. Phillips just exercised his Constitutional Right. The otherwise merry gey couple should respect others as they are demanding they be respected.
“Must be a slow news day. The fairies should just bake their own cake. I really dont think they need to go whining to the media. It isnt that big of a deal.”
Not a slow news day, but one more press opportunity. You should read in the press how the noble couple has told their supports they will not condone bombing of the shop, as some have suggested.
typo above, “supporters” not “supports” aargh
That’s pretty incredible. You beat me by less than one second.
Not to mention all of the alternative newspapers in a city the size of Denver. Certainly the cake shops that advertise there could help them. And what about their gay friends in Denver, couldn’t they recommend some gay-friendly bake shops?
We better start contributing to Jack Phillips’ Legal Defense Fund right now. He’s going to need it. Fur will fly real soon now for this “hate crime.”
BRAVO to you for saying that out loud!!!
There must be a lot of James Homes types out there just itching to make their dent.
There must be a lot of James Homes types out there just itching to make their dent.
Probably afraid of lawsuits. What a racket the advocates have going now.
Every public elementary school will be required to have a neighborhood rainbow pride parade ...parents not attending and throwing confetti will be charged with a hate crime.
It should be everyone supporting the merchant. I assume if a gay bake shop is asked to bake cakes for the National Organization for Marriage, they will oblige?
Cannot believe some facebookers have suggested violence and bombs against this poor shop.
That may be so.
It’s like we’re connected or something :-)
If they sold online, I’d buy $100+ from them.
I sent them an email of support for their right to do business with whomever they want. The >2% homos will be trying to force them to comply or close them down, like the NM photographer case.
btw, thanks for that link. much appreciated.
The gay movement is a house of cards. Right now it’s all driven by emotion - everyone reaching for the mantle of tolerance.
Behind the facade is a disgusting reality, i.e. two guys having anal sex.
When liberals don't care for something or someone they can claim to be "offended" and expect immediate support from the media. However, if anyone else is truly offended by something, the media will present them to the public as being bigoted, insensitive or hateful.
What you are saying should be a joke, but I’m afraid them’s are prophetic words.
Good for you, we should do the same. Thanks for the link and for your good faith effort.
Feed the faggots some Rainbow Oreo cookies.
>>>It should be everyone supporting the merchant. I assume if a gay bake shop is asked to bake cakes for the National Organization for Marriage, they will oblige?>>>
Excellent!
So what ever happened to, “WE RESERVE THE RIGHT TO REFUSE SERVICE TO ANYONE?”
The left is outpacing sarcasm.
Colorado once passed a Constitutional Amendment saying, no special rights for special activists. Then they got bent over by a limp wristed defense of the Amendment by none other than, then Attorney General Ken Salazar.
As the DNC says, Lean Forward we aren’t threw yet!
Right, all they needed to do is order up a huge tray of rainbow Oreos. Problem solved.
I like cake.
Well, order a white heterosexual cake, then at home do the rainbow bit with tubes of frosting (not you, the gay couple ;))
Give them a couple of cinnamon sticks.
It died with the Political Correctness agenda. How about NOM and AFA staring to ask gay shops to bake their cakes? Wonder how THAT would go down?
“Bury me on my head for one day this world will be upside down.”
Diogenes
Yours is a realistic comment that pinpoints why this is in the news...This encounter was more than likely orchestrated to result in yet another homosexactivist lawsuit against Free Speech.
They think they have found powerful, revengeful, new-found freedom; and yet....are quite simply more tools in the useful idiot drawer.
This is a group not known for tolerance, so, I'm afraid not.
BTW in light of this incident I will be monitoring local bakeries for any knee-jerk reaction to this news item, and will redirect my business accordingly.
If I lived there, I’d buy a cake of any kind from them as a vote of approval.
Maybe Freepers in that area could buy a cake from them.
What a bunch of intolerant drama-queen comments at the link. lol.
Years ago at one of the radio stations I work for the gal doing the weeknight requsts for lovers show took a call from a guy wanting to dedicate a song to his guy lover.
If I had been doing the show, which I oftn did...(BLEAYUCH!) I would have taken the call and said something like we’ll get to it if we can.
But the gal got confrontational and to make a long story short there were lawsuits that went on for years but eventually we lost. The gal had to go on the air, apologize, put the couple on the air and play whatever they wanted.
It was a set up! I knew that and would have handled it differently. Maybe it was a slow night for her but I doubt it. I often got well over 200 calls in the three or five hours of the show. Yes sometimes more than a call a minute! Obviously your chances of being on the air were slim no matter what your...persusion!
We had serious callers wanting to dedicate songs and declare their love for pets, plants, dead relatives and more! I threatened to rent a hall to get listeners together so I could lecture them that the show was background. If you were cuddling close and generating body heat we’d set the mood for you and your sweetie. No pets, plants, buildings or dead relatives!
Same sex couples...unless the names were ambiguous... would not make the air.
I’d buy from them too, but I don’t live there.
Go go yelp.com and bump up the comments from reviewers who have given this place positive reviews.
LOL.
No, we’re not.
