A few years ago now, Beccy Cole was very popular here on Freerepublic, because of a wonderful song she wrote in response to a former fan who had criticised her, for going overseas to entertain Australian troops fighting the war on terror.
Poster Girl (The Wrong Side of the World) at youtube.
You won't listen to my songs anymore
You ripped my poster off the wall
'Cause I'm the singer that went to the war
You see no good in me at all
Pardon me if I believe that I haven't got it wrong
And before you turn your back on me
I'll sing you one more song
Cause I shook hands with a digger
On the wrong side of the world
With a wife at home that holds her breath
With a brand new baby girl
And the Digger fights for freedom
In a job that must be done
And I let go of his hands so proud
To be Australian
If unlike me, you feel no pride at all
Then go ahead and take me off your wall
'Cause I prefer to be a poster girl
On the wrong side of the world
And I'm just the girl who sings the crazy songs
Not qualified to sit and judge
I've been right and I know that I've been wrong
But I'm for peace and I'm for love
And I admire the burning fire that causes you to fight
I only wish the wrong side of the world
Had the same right
I listened to the wisdom of the Aussie Brigadier
He spoke of widows and of orphans
And the need to dry their tears
And he leads the fight for freedom
In a job that must be done
And I've never been more proud to say
That I'm Australian
If unlike, me you feel no pride at all
Then go ahead and take me off your wall
'Cause I prefer to be a poster girl
On the wrong side of the world
Maybe I'm naive to think we all could get along
But, Sir, I read your words and all I ask
Is hear my song
I shook hands with a digger
On the wrong side of the world
With a wife at home that holds her breath
And brand new baby girl
And the Digger fights for freedom
In a job that must be done
And I've never been so proud
To say I'm Australian
If unlike me you feel no pride at all
Then go ahead and take me off your wall
'Cause I prefer to be a poster girl
On the wrong side of the world
I'm so proud to be a poster girl
On the wrong side of the world
My view of her hasn't changed. She's a patriot, whatever her sexuality. Personally, I don't believe in gay people being parents, but from what she says - and I won't doubt her - she had her son in wedlock, before she realised her sexuality and both she and her ex-husband are actively involved in being parents to their son.

I don’t know her & it is her life but right now I am trying to accept news about a cousin who just had a baby boy with her partner....to me it is a form of child abuse when that little boy won’t have a “dad”....how do I congratulate her when I have this opinion?

I guess I may as well “come out” too since everybody else is. I’m a 54 year old white male...and I’m a lesbian. I love women! There I said it.

“Coming out” did wonders for the career of another patriotic, female country singer, Chely Wright. I wonder what she’s been doing these days.

Reading the words of the song, hats off to her. Beautiful girl, beautiful heart.
To: winner3000
Maybe she was just cynically trying to exploit a market by doing a song like that.

So proudly proclaiming to the world (and her son) that she is a sexual prevert.

Certainly not. She went overseas on numerous tours for the troops. And her support for them actually cost her quite a lot of her left wing fans.

I think that perverts should just keep their perversions in the bedroom, and if really twisted, in the closet, be they celebrity or every day person on the street.
Nobody needs to ‘stand up’ for perversion, there is nothing to ‘stand up’ for, nor to be proud about, and there is no reason to give this carpet muncher a pass because she did some patriotic songs and made some patriotic gestures.

Yup, I’m sure glad Sandusky was himself.
Guess James Holmes was also.
Just what exactly does that meaningless series of words mean?

Despite what I feel to be the homosexual degradation of our Armed Forces and the ridiculous ways we’ve run our wars since WWII, I’m yet proud too to have such an ally in Australia, and in in the likes of Beccy Cole who at least walks the walk and believes in her country and in something beyond herself.
