Dianne Feinstein’s renewed outrage over assault “weapons of war”
sfgate San Francisco Chronicle ^ | 2012-07-22 | Carla Marinucci

Nearly two decades before the Aurora Colorado massacre, an assault weapon-toting madman’s massacre of eight people inside the 101 California highrise in San Francisco sent shock waves around the nation.

In the aftermath of that bloody day in 1993, California U.S. Senator Dianne Feinstein became a leader in calling for an assault weapons ban.

This week, 19 years to the month later, Feinstein is speaking out on assault weapons, calling for a national “conversation” about their dangers — though she admits that politically, any reforms are unlikely to happen.

“Weapons of war don’t belong on the streets,” she said Sunday. Feinstein expressed deep concern about Colorado gunman James Holmes’ use of large magazines and assault weapons to shoot dozens and kill 12 in a matter of minutes. “These are weapons that you’re only going to be using to kill people in close combat,” she told Fox News Sunday.

"“These are weapons that you’re only going to be using to kill people in close combat"

With an effective range of 400-600 yards, I'm not sure that's "close combat". Most people shoot paper with ARs, some shoot varmints. I don't think an awful lot of owners use S&W M&P 15s to kill people in "close combat".

Dear Ms. Fienstein,

Blow me sideways and FOAD.

I hope that articulates my views.

A treaty here, a broken conversation there, and we have WWIII.

THe war on guns is a declaration of war, of civil war, behind honeyed words of surrender, drafting the American people, tax war on poverty style.

It's what she means by "conversation". You and the state drop the guns first Dianne.

No one asks to regulate and control crutches for the handicaped, nor should we control and regulate their acquisition of weapons to ward of physical attacks from the uninjured and physically healthy...

... and the state for that matter... which has all the intent on regulating free speech the way that mass murderer attacked free speech in the theater... of all places.

The state stops overspending, overgrowing and over taxing the American people first, Dianne.

Ask Diane how a Remington Model 700 .30-06 with a nice Leupold 10X scope would be? We could ensure that it would be kept at least 300 yards away from her entourage. That’s just a deer hunting rifle, isn’t it — no bayonet lug or flash suppressor or pistol grip, eh? Only 5 round magazine—

"Weapons of war don’t belong on the streets”

They aren't weapons of war - they are weapons of defense.

They belong in our homes, loaded, waiting by the front door, and ready to defend our families, our homes and our freedom.

Criminals and politiciians (often difficult to tell apart) are the two groups most interested in disarmng citizens.

"A gun is a tool, Marian. No better, no worse than any other tool. An axe, a shovel, or anything. A gun is as good or as bad as the man using it. Remember that."

“Weapons of war don’t belong on the streets,” she said

No, you stupid twat. People, who are willing to use those weapons, on a civilian street, don’t belong on the streets.

But that would be 35.7 percent of your constituency, wouldn’t it?

You did well in your undergraduate stupid studies.

I didn't see this in the search. It could use a little Freep. I feel Feinstein's comments are cynical hypocrisy and she is an elitist with her "guns for me, and not for thee" approach towards the subject. It's election year and she is just pandering at best. ----- Gee, ya' think?

They will never understand that.

Never.

OMG thank you for bring Happyland up. If someone intend to murder a large group of people all at the same time they would do it. Not just Happyland but how about 911. Except one used Gasoline and the other Planes. Looks like Diane Frankenstein forgot about that. It seems for liberals it is NOT the murder that bothers them but the tool.

Deadliest campus killing in US history--not a shot fired:

Worth the cut and paste. Mz. Feinstein would be well advised to brush up on her history. Guns really don't kill people. Crazy people kill people.

“Weapons of war don’t belong on the streets,”

Dianne, you're dead wrong.

First: The shooter didn't use a military rifle; it was a "military looking" semiautomatic sporting rifle. Get your facts straight.

Second: Yes, in fact weapons of war do belong in the citizens' hands per the Second Amendment to the Constitution. You've heard of it...it was in all the papers...and it will allow the citizenry to protect itself from the worst aspirations of people like yourself, and your minions, should you ever attempt to gain the degree of totalitarian power you seem so desirous of. Our current gun regulations are already unconstitutionally restrictive in terms of owning actual military equipment, and everyone with a shred of intellectual honesty knows it, so stop pandering to the soccer mommies with mindless, hackneyed rhetoric.

Third: Seeking to strip the civil rights of a nation is not an appropriate way to deal with very rare individual acts of violent crime, terrible though they may be, unless of course you're actually stupid or have ulterior motives. There could be severe unintended consequences stemming from an unwise overreach. Remember Lexington and Concord? (Yes, they made the papers, too.) How'd that episode end up working out for the British? Take a wild guess what the British troops were there to do. History demonstrates that a government attempting to deny a free people its defensive arms may well end up facing them.

Fourth: You are simply being irrational. If the murderer had taken a razor or knife and slashed throats in the confusion and darkness, would you ban them and have us tear our meat with our canines? Or walk around looking like unshaven mullahs? What if he had driven a truck through the line outside the theater? No more motor vehicles?

Please, I implore you--no matter how much it hurts--try to think a little.

I hunted rabbits in high school with my dad's old bolt action .22LR. Since then, I acquired many other firearms. All of them of been used as precision paper punches. It's a hobby and entertainment. My paper punching has no impact on any other person. The FFL makes some money on my purchases. The range organization gets an annual stipend for my access. I wouldn't mind reducing prairie dog populations in the Spring, but I have even had time for that.

The American Revolution began when the Crown attempted to disarm the Colonists.

I guess it’s only fitting that the Revolution ends with the Colonists demanding to be disarmed....
