It is often noticed that motivation of the grinning psychopaths that open up on unarmed citizens is to be remembered in history.
It appears they have no concern for what punishment lies before them, even the threat of death -- then, or issued as a penalty -- is not enough to deter them, They only seem to want the fame.
What is the solution, then? Gun control is the answer the liberals come up with. Gun control, however, will not stop the grinning psychopath. They will find other ways. Chemicals can be bought and explosives made. Gasoline and proper placement of the fire can trap many dozens. A sword or machete can be used to kill more than a dozen trapped people, and they can be easily fashioned from strips of metal.
Further, let us consider that harming the rights of millions to stop the one or two a year that act out like this, is no solution. It is 'prior restraint', and it is not to be allowed in America.
So what is the solution?
Go to the grinning psychopaths' motivation. Deny them their place in history. Erase their name.
This idea was spawned by the movie '300', in which Xerxes threatens Leonides with annihilation, and banishment from history:
Xerxes, clearly enraged: "There will be no glory in your sacrifice. I will erase even the memory of Sparta from the histories. Every piece of Greek parchment shall be burned. Every Greek historian and every scribe shall have their eyes put out......and their tongues cut from their mouths. Why, uttering the very name of Sparta or Leonidas will be punishable by death! The world will never know you existed at all!!"
Do this punishment for these mass shooters, these grinning psychopaths. The minute their name is known, DO NOT announce it on the news. Refer to them only as Suspect Number (whatever). DO NOT record their name in history books or on Wikipedia or anywhere on the internet.
Banish them to obscurity. Forever.
This will require a great deal of restraint and a truly disciplined society, at least where this is concerned. The news media will need to cooperate. The police will need to cooperate. The good researchers on the internet will need to cooperate. The name will undoubtedly leak out, but if it does, even the common man will need to cooperate and not spread it further.
Deny them their place in history. Refer to them only as Suspect Number (whatever the number happens to be).
Will it stop them all? No. But it will stop a few... quite a few, I suspect.
First, all politicians and the media would have to be... eliminated.
We can’t even fight a war without these mutants leaking tactics and other critical information to our enemies.
A decent MSM. Or lacking that, someone to whom they are lapdogs giving the dog command. How about giving Barack Obama a buzz.

That is an excellent idea which I have been advocating for 5 decades. Don’t give them what they want, the infamy. The hungry public, ourselves among it, won’t accept it. How many threads have we seen on the topic here? How many hungry vanities with unoriginal passing thoughts? Conventional wisdom, piles of cliches and banalities. The crowd screams for more. Remember: Blood on the tracks, or If I could stick a knife in my heart, Suicide right on stage, Would it be enough for your teenage lust, Would it help to ease the pain? Ease your brain?
It’s a pity, Laz, and I don’t know which is worse, the hunger of the perp or the hunger of the mob, the looky loos, the freeway accident voyeurs. The idea won’t fly, it’s under the bus!
Society could do with a not-to-be-racist blackout/shunning of all them. But there’s also the other motivation problem of those who live inside their heads who don’t desire glory, but seek power and ultimate control of others’ very existence; of course mainly ruled by extinguishing it. These sadistic nuts derive their jollies from the act itself irrespective of gaining fame, and, I reckon, are tougher to crack.

Better than all that, immediately illuminate all foreign aid and redirect it to our vets and Americans genuinely down on their luck. Evict the U.N. enemy from out shores, etc.

True. But this idea, probably unworkable but worth talking about, would quench the fire of a significant percentage of them.

Needless to say, the media feed it, the media live off these vulgar interests of the mob. What if we press the supermarkets not to carry the tabloids, the PEEPHOLE magazines and such? (I hear the usual 1st Amendment screams from the usual suspects here. Don’t bother.) One supermarket in my area doesn’t carry the trash. Why, I don’t know. There is of course also the idiot box and the Internet. The best we can do is not to consume it ourselves, rise above it, which means, yes, not to start and contribute to lame vanities on this forum, about these worthless individuals and their despicable acts and lives.

Follow the thread when you wake up, and see if the give and take changes your mind. It might be unworkable, but I want to think of something that might actually work (a little) as opposed to the usual nostrum of unconstitutional and unworkable ‘gun control’ nonsense.
I wouldn’t even number them — assure them that they would be indistinguishable and confused with other similar crap throughout recorded history...

Brilliant analysis, my friend. I agree with this. It would have been nice if someone in that theater could have popped off a few rounds at the guy, too - even in body armor, being hit by a bullet is not a painless experience. And that might have been all that was needed for others to stop him as well.
