Mike Huckabee on his radio show last week told his audience and one caller in particular that the Boy Scouts‘ decision to continue its ban on homosexuals was the right because it protects boy scouts from sexual abuse. The assumption Huckabee is clearly making is all gay people are pedophiles, or a large percentage of gay people are pedophiles.
A caller into Huckabee’s radio show says he was molested by his scout leader for three years, adding, “if there hadn’t have been a homosexual in my troop, I wouldn’t have been traumatized for about three years.” Of course, Huckabee ignored the fact hat the man’s abuser was actually a pedophile, not a homosexual, based on his actions. Huckabee also ignores mountains of evidence that shows that pedophilia and homosexuality are different things, and gay people are no more likely to be child molesters than straight people.
Huckabee then says that the scout leader of his troop when he was a boy “had done the same thing to some of the kids in the scout troop.” Therefore, Huckabee believes, all gays are pedophiles.

Actually I believe that the guy was both. And I also believe that both played into the abuse of the caller.
If the abuser didn’t lean homosexual then I doubt his victim would have been of the same sex. Not that abusing little girls is any better, but a heterosexual would not molest someone of the same sex.

Gays want to be taken as a natural subset of human beings. The only flaw is that there is no way of identifying a homosexual except by his actions. Pretty much as the Puritans identified both saints and reprobates. Even then, they were not certain.

I am sorry but one can’t hide behind the label pedophile because it is a much worse word than homosexual. But someone can definitely be a homosexual and a pedophile.
The obvious question to ask is why would a homosexual (who is not a parent of a boy in the troop) want to get involved in scout leadership? It is very difficult to imagine a 100% pure self-sacrificing motive.
Wouldn’t someone look with suspicion on a man who volunteers to be the towel boy for a junior high girls volleyball team?
I guess my point is why take the risk? Are the Boy Scouts so short on qualified leaders that it needs to take in gays as leaders? After all, the Boy Scouts is all about the needs of the boys. It is not intended to be about the need of scout leaders, gay or straight.
The main stream media has gone all out to portray the Roman Catholic Church’s problems with a segment of their priests as “pedophiles”. Funny how the gender of the abused children is almost exclusively male.

Maybe we ought to have men go on campouts with the Girl Scouts. After all, just cause a guy is heterosexual doesn’t mean he’s a pedophile, right?

To me, the issue is simple. If the homosexuals believe that the public at large wants homosexuals in the scouting, they can start up their own operation instead of high-jacking an existing one. Heck, they can afford to spring for fabulous uniforms and gear, too, and waive all fees.
With all those incentives, won’t parents and children be stampeding for the new and improved version?
Yes, because that assumption is true. According to an essentially pro-homosexual (i.e. "anti-discrimination") course I took to be certified to work with kids, a homosexual male is 5 times as likely as a random male to abuse children. As I recall, the figure, which was undoubtedly weighted so as to make homos look less bad, was 4 percent of men at large, vs. 20 percent of homosexual men.
In a related example, a friend in the entertainment industry was discussing homosexual adoption with a colleague. He was a homosexual himself. His response was, "Homosexuals adopting children? Are they CRAZY?"
We pray for him. He obviously has a weakness, but he has some integrity and a stake in civilization.

But someone (like the author) can say that someone is a pedophile because he molested a child and therefore cannot be a homosexual. In effect they are hiding behind the label of pedophilia.

Not really. He could be a bisexual. You can’t assume that a man who appears to be a heterosexual isn’t also attracted to males, especially male teens. That’s why we really on 2-deep leadership.
