Statement issued by the White House:

"Michelle and I were deeply saddened to hear about the passing of Sally Ride. As the first American woman to travel into space, Sally was a national hero and a powerful role model. She inspired generations of young girls to reach for the stars and later fought tirelessly to help them get there by advocating for a greater focus on science and math in our schools. Sally’s life

Can Obozo edict that two flags be hoisted in order that both be flown at half-mast?

Wow.

He only said "I" twice.

And no references to "his" daughters.

Well, of course he did.

She was an Obama supporter, I’m sorry to say, as I learned today.

Sally Ride endorses Obama

October 29, 2008 at 7:53 am · Filed under Campaign ‘08

Former astronaut Sally Ride, the first American woman in space, made clear her support for Barack Obama in an Orlando Sentinel op-ed Wednesday. Part of her reason for supporting the Democratic candidate is his stance on space:

Obama also has impressed me with his grasp of the challenges our space program faces and his agenda for where we go from here. Obama clearly understands the importance of human spaceflight and exploration. That is why he supports increasing NASA’s budget to close the gap in American spaceflight capability.

I wonder what Sally thought of him after he slashed NASA’s budget?

So sad. Wasn’t Ruth Bader Ginsberg diagnosed with this also? I wonder what treatment she’s been receiving. She seems to be doing very well.

Did he say when he looks at his daughters he sees astronauts? I don't care what that dip stick says about anyone or anything or what his big boned wife says either.
Obama ruins everything

Meanwhile Sheila Jackson Lee is asking NASA to drive the Mars rover over to the spot where Sally Ride planted the flag...

That’s all that the Space Program is to Obama & Friends... a political prop.

As the first American woman to travel into space...

She didn't do that. Somebody else made that happen.

Even if something were to happen to her, there's no way that they'd get a new SCOTUS Justice through the confirmation process before then.

There is the mechanism of a recess appointment. However I don't think that there's ever been such to SCOTUS. In any event, if Ruthie were to assume room temperature you'd see Boehner keep the House in session to prevent such. And I don't mean the kind of barely-functioning one that's allowed Obama to claim they were really in recess with at least one recent appointment.

PLUS such an appointment would seriously hurt Obama by ticking off independents and royally ticking off Conservatives. History (FDR's court-packing attempt) has shown that the swing-element of the US public really doesn't like it when the President starts playing games with the Court. If Obama were to set up a Constitutional crisis (and it would be such) leading up to the election it would allow the Republicans, at the least, to highlight ALL of his extra-Constitutional activities in a way that would present a very clear picture to an awake and paying-attention voting public.

Considering that she was a lesbian, she probably cared more about his stances on gay rights.

Oh! I have slipped the surly bonds of Earth

And danced the skies on laughter-silvered wings;

Sunward I’ve climbed and joined the tumbling mirth of sun-split clouds,—and done a hundred things

You have not dreamed of wheeled and soared and swung

High in the sunlit silence. Hov’ring there,

I’ve chased the shouting wind along, and flung

My eager craft through footless falls of air...

Up, up the long, delirious, burning blue

I’ve topped the wind-swept heights with easy grace

Where never lark, nor eer eagle flew—

And, while with silent lifting mind I’ve trod

The high, untrespassed sanctity of space,

Put out my hand and touched the face of God.

“I wonder what Sally thought of him after he slashed NASA’s budget?”

“A 2013 spending bill that would fund NASA’s commercial crew program below the level President Barack Obama requested drew a veto threat Monday (May 7) as the U.S. House of Representatives was preparing to begin debate on the proposal.”
