UNIVERSITY PARK, Pa. – Jay Paterno, then the Penn State quarterbacks coach, worked for Sen. Barack Obama’s campaign before the Democratic primary in Pennsylvania in 2008. Paterno helped organize a campus rally and introduced Obama to a big crowd on the sloping lawn in front of Old Main, the university administration building. Obama lost the primary to Sen. Hilary Clinton but won Centre County.

Nearly a year ago, on Feb. 2, 2011, President Obama came to Penn State and met Jay’s parents, Nittany Lion head coach Joe Paterno and his wife Sue.

On Monday, the day after Joe Paterno succumbed to cancer, President Obama called Jay and Sue Paterno to offer his condolences.

“Jay, I wanted to call,” Obama said, according to notes that Jay took. “Both Michelle and I wanted to offer our condolences to you and your family.

Just my opinion, Papa Paterno's affection for the GOP(Reagan/Bush) was fake.

Papa Paterno, relayed his true political views to his son.

The more you learn about that family, the more you can’t stand them.

0 was probably disappointed that he didn’t get a chance to fool around with Sandusky and his boys in the locker room.

I’m pretty sure the Paternos can’t help Obama this time around.

No, but people like Joe Paterno, are fake, and blow with the wind. The GOP would be big heap in trouble, by the MSM, if Jay(Joe Paterno Jr.) had suppoerted the GOP.

I guess the cult of Penn State stays strong.

Wouldn’t be surprised if the blind idiots running his campaign think this is a good thing. Sorry, but most people feel the same way about child abuse as do those in prison. this gets out and I bet Pennsylvania goes RED all the way except philly.

Obama is probably hoping that since Paterno is still popular in certain parts of PA that he can take the state..everything with Obama and his commie cronies are deliberate

Honestly, another sign that everything Obama touches turns to crap. Joe paterno was a supporter of multiple republicans in the past. He supports obama in 08, and their wold is shattered.

Chicago Olympics, sports picks, economy, acorn, etc. he puts up Greek columns in 2008, and the entire country collapses within his term.

I can guarantee the politics of the parents are not necessary the politics of the offspring.

I had the optimistic view that my kid could survive collage and sent him off to school, he went in as a conservative, graduated a liberal.

Took almost 15 years, but he finally came around and realized that all the political BS he was subjected to in collage was just that BS.

...and if it's not a bad time to ask, whatcha all going to do with that sculpture, 'cause I got a sculptor friend down here in D.C. working on a little project and he could use all the bronze he can get his hands on.

I am surrounded by avid Penn Staters, many of whom decided long ago that they couldn’t stand Jay Paterno.(they thought he was a terrible coach but was untouchable)

His non-stop whining these past 2 weeks haven’t helped his case - at all.
