A gunman who opened fire on an officer at the end of a stolen-car pursuit was killed in Anaheim's second fatal officer-involved shooting in two days, authorities said The shooting climaxed an incident that began around 11:20 p.m. Sunday, when anti-gang officers spotted a known gang member on probation in what they soon determined was a stolen car, Anaheim police Sgt. Bob Dunn said. They were pursuing the vehicle when the driver lost control on on West Guinida Lane, and two men and a woman bailed.
The officers were in foot pursuit for about a half-block when one male suspect fired at the officers, Dunn said.
The officers returned fire, striking the suspect, who was dead at the scene.
A gun was found next to the body, he said, adding that the second male suspect was detained, but the female got away, and a perimeter search for her was under way. It was not immediately determined if the suspect who fired on officers was the gang member on probation, Dunn said.
---------------------- ANAHEIM Two police officers have been placed on paid leave after one of them fatally shot an unarmed man as he attempted to flee on foot in a residential alleyway, police Chief John Welter said Sunday.
The shooting victim, 25-year-old Manuel Angel Diaz of Santa Ana, was pronounced dead at a local hospital at 7 p.m. Saturday after being shot in the alley a few blocks northeast of downtown Anaheim.
Police described Diaz as a "documented gang member," and said he was shot after the officers saw three men near a car in the 600 block of Anna Drive, near La Palma Avenue and State College Boulevard. Believing the activity to be suspicious, the officers approached the vehicle, and all three men fled on foot.

Glad that no human beings were hurt.
Spent many moons trying to convince B-1 Bob that massive illegal immigration was not a great idea for SoCal. He didn't believe it until Loretta cheated him out of his job!
Seriously, 4 cops on leave ... that's not good now that Anaheim is a "border town."
Tampa: Black enemies within
Both "communities" fighting police and defending violent criminals.
This is almost the exact same way the nationwide riots in Britain started last August.
1. Gang-banger gets capped by the police;
2. Angry mob descends on a police precinct, and race card gets thrown around;
3. Police botch the response to the mob presence, and it’s Game On for the looters/arsonists.
“A gun was found next to the body”. Mmmm...
Mmmm, u yep. Shootem in the ass, shootem in the head — head. Hand cuff em and searchem whilst they bleed and brain out. No gun, knife, nor tacos found.
Hells bells, they were running fr christ sake, mus be ok.
Sure its, its sort ok. long as its them.
Enough Yet? You are next..
It’s Loretta’s district. Those are her people, and would be citizens instead of illegals if GHWB’s treasonous idiot of a son had had his way.
I think Gary Miller’s district moved way to the east, by Corona.
So, if Diaz is found to be in this country illegally, would he be referred to as an "undocumented documented gang member"?
The payoff from certain GOP fools who used to say "family values don't stop at the Rio Grande".Fixed.
Some of us can remember when north Orange County was still part of the USA, no thanks to the treason lobby who believe that
ethnic panderingcheap labor is more important than deporting illegalswinning elections.
Yeah you’re right, the gangbangers of that neighborhood are just misunderstood and innocent victims of police tyranny. /sarc
Of course if the homies think that you belong to the wrong tribe they’ll kill you quicker than the police that you evidently fear.
Recently spent a lot of time in Anaheim and East LA for work.
Totally different than the reasonably well integrated suburban middle class neighborhoods when I was there in the 80’s.
Entire cities are Balkanized Ethnic enclaves of Hispanics, Blacks and Asians and in places where Hispanics dominate English is the second language.
The checkout lines at Wal Mart are packed with non English speaking Hispanics, and about 90% of them were paying for their purchases with California's distinctive Welfare EBT card.
There is a strong presence of violent gangs, many of which are part of or affiliated with the same violent Mexican drug cartels that are killing thousands across the border.
I feel sorry for the police that have to patrol those areas because it's probably leaving the green zone in Iraq than entering into some of those neighborhoods if you are a cop because the gang members are openly hostile and aggressive to the police .
California is a poster child for our failed social policies.
Don't want to be anywhere near those cities when the welfare checks stop coming and the EBT accounts getting their monthly cash transfers.
Since California and the rest of the country are out of other peoples money that day may be coming sooner than later.
You got it.
Back in the late ‘90s, I was driving OTR commercial truck.
Had a delivery appointment in South Central LA, a furniture warehouse. Got talking with the guys loading my truck.
As I drove into the area, I saw several burnt-out buildings. Off the cuff, I asked about them. I was told they were remnants of the ‘92 riots, and they were left standing and blackened, as reminders. I never got an answer as to a reminder of what, exactly...
No. Guns caused this tragedy./sarc
And I'm sure the gun the bangers used wasn't bought at Bass Pro Shops, so having that gun was 'illegal too'. And since we all know that more laws solve everything (right Bloomie?), this couldn't have happened. It's impossible because of all 'The Laws'.
I think they made this whole thing up. Just trying to make us think criminals don't obey 'The Law'.
Live by the sword, die by the sword........Guess they never learned that in Gang school.
More trash we don’t have to house for years on end.
Went to D-land last Christmas for the first time in years and was STUNNED.
Spanish as the second language, tons of Hispanics paying almost $100 a pop for tix...
I truly felt like I was south of the border...
Mexi-Cali is on its way.
Suspect running? Shoot the suspect.
Wrong house? Shoot the occupant anyway, he had a gun.
Pretty soon it's going to devolve into shooting LEOs before they shoot you anyway.
'Gang school' LOL, now that is funny.
The thing is 95% of these idiots would likely flunk out of a 'Gang School' too.
And your right about that other part too. 'Trash' is spot on.
When the Germans came to Anaheim the locals (Spanish and Mexican) called the area the German Field.
So, there are people who look quite Mexican up there ~ and since `1830 or before that's where they've lived. This Anna street looks more like a village surrounding a central plaza area or a meadow for the milch cows and goats ~ maybe the chickens.
Then, rebuild of a formerly rural settlement took place some time in the last 60 years and that's what you've got.
The average age of people in that particular community is in the 30s ~ with more than their fair share of late middle aged elders.
That doesn't mean the rest of North Anaheim is as nasty as you imagine, but this area has well kept lawns, bushes, clean streets, no trash,..... and even the local shopping center on LaPalma looks to be in good shape.
So, where were you thinking of ~ give us an address or something.
We seem to have people on the thread who are unfamiliar with the existence of very tanned hispanic communities in the LA basin whose people actually were the first settlers.
They just never moved ~ particularly once the US government certified the Spanish and Mexican landgrants.
There are OTHER tanned Mexicans who are illegal aliens in the same region ~
The reminder is that in America if you burn it down it'll stay there just like that.
It's a lesson to the rioters ~ no one really cares. Business can go elsewhere. You want your neighborhood to look like trash, there it is. Live with it.
For many years there were no grocery stores in DC. Sure, there was a theft problem, but there was also the risk of store managers and staff being robbed and killed leaving the store in the evening, and what customers wanted to shop in DC, where it wasn't safe, when you could drive to Virginia where it was safe and shop in all kinds of stores.
Good grief. You have no idea of what you are talking about.
I have lived near this area for 40 years and know it very well.
It has no similarity to your “history”.
“We seem to have people on the thread who are unfamiliar with the existence of very tanned hispanic communities in the LA basin whose people actually were the first settlers.”
Go play your thinly veiled racism card somewhere else. The descendants of the first settlers in Orange County, the Yorbas and their relatives, are indistinguishable from other Americans.
The latinos involved here are very recent arrivals, they are illegals and their offspring. They have turned north Orange County from the Leave it to Beaver America that it once was into the gang infested and crime ridden place that it has become.
Hmm, they are? I thought most of them were dead.
They are successful because there are several places you can find water in that area.
Later (Age of Zorro) the Mexican Revolution happens and California is relinquished by Spain to Mexico.
Development of California, particularly in the LA area continues ~ all the water resources are discovered and used for local agricultural development.
1848 shows up and California is absorbed by the United States.
Are you questioning the standard history of California taught in state schools just because you've been there 40 years and didn't see it happen, or, you are addressing some issue you've raised in your mind that wasn't raised in the thread?
We have to light a fire under our Republican and Democrat “leaders” concerning immigration. We have to push the pause button on immigration for a while especially immigration from south of the border. They like to talk about the “Hispanic vote”, let them hear from the “not-Hispanic vote” and they will realize which side their bread is buttered on. There are many more of us than them, we are citizens and we VOTE.
Those firehoses are a great way to disperse large numbers of rioters.
Do you know what that does to Disneyland, Knott's Berry Farm, other spots?
's not good.
Look, I know the neighborhood where the shooting occurred very well. I’ve been through it many thousands of times. I used to have friends who lived walking distance away.
40 years ago Anaheim was white, middle class suburbia carved out of the orange groves that surrounded the original town, which had been settled by Germans in the 1850s. Some of the founding families still lived here. Many of the newcomers worked in the aerospace and defense industries that dominated the Orange County economy. This was the case into the 1980s.
There was a Mexican American population but it was smaller than many outside of California understand. They were assimilated and many of them couldn’t speak Spanish any better than other Americans. There were illegal alien neighborhoods but those tended to be small and well defined. The exception was the city of Santa Ana, which was the first Orange County city to be heavily impacted by mass illegal immigration.
The Reagan amnesty of 1986 didn’t do this area any favor. But for a few years there was a lull, even a drop in the illegal immigrant population. Then they figured out that George HW Bush had no intention of enacting the enforcement mechanisms built into the 1986 law that would have reduced illegal immigration. So the illegal wave picked up.
It really accelerated during the Clinton Administration. This was because NAFTA blew up the rural Mexican farmers who couldn’t compete with American corn prices. So they flooded up here by the tens of thousands. We could have had a chance to reverse this when Clinton left office, but instead we got George HW Bush’s amnesty-pushing Mexico-loving idiot of a son for President, and his solution was to throw gasoline on a raging fire.
What this did was dramatically change the demographics of north Orange County in an amazingly rapid amount of time. Anaheim in particular is majority latino, just as Santa Ana was decades ago. These aren’t Mexican Americans, they are Mexican nationals. Bumper stickers abound that say ‘yo amo Michoacán’ or some other state of the Mexican union. The signage in the area switched from English to Spanish.
Among the other “family values that don’t stop at the Rio Grande” (Dubya) is crime and violence. Gang activity. Graffiti marking gang territory and defacing all the property. North Orange County is now a place most Americans try to leave, when it had been one of the most desirable places for them to move to. And the reason is that it isn’t America anymore. It’s Mexico Norte. A situation aided and abetted by politicians from both parties, may there be a special place in Hell just for them.
Mexican Americans who I know, and I know many, tell me that one characteristic of the Mexican mentality is to “do unto others before they do unto you”. Now I’ve met many generous latinos, but I suspect that there is truth in the other idea as well. There is a low civic consciousness in that population. A suspicion of authority, an opinion that laws are optional, and a pronounced dislike of the police.
The neighborhood where the shooting occurred has been a dangerous neighborhood for decades. Not just undesirable, but dangerous. I first became aware of it 30 years ago when someone who shot a Highway Patrolman was finally caught hiding out on Anna Drive.
In gang neighborhoods gang life is a multi-generational enterprise, with both sexes participating. The policemen who work these neighborhoods aren’t just regular patrolmen, they are cops who know the players and can recognize them on sight. If Anaheim loses to the agitators, one of whom is a female City Council member, the city will be finished. It probably already is. This latest violence is just the death rattle.
The shame is that it didn’t have to be this way. The traitors whom we elect to high office could have done their job to protect the citizens of California from being overrun by illegal aliens. But the politicians didn’t. Instead they listened to swine like Karl Rove who told them that enforcing the law would alienate the latino vote. So to hell with the pinche gabachos, viva La Raza! Just be glad if you don’t live here or have family here. But it will be coming your way soon.
As I recall he was under a lot of pressure from his family to be the first to know Spanish.
They lived in Anaheim. And yeah, to a Midwesterner he looked quite hispanic.
That guy should have studied law, ‘abogado’ is español for ‘lawyer’.
I once worked with an Argentine who had the distinction of having been captured by the Brits during the Falkland Islands War. He looked like a Greek shopkeeper.
Just reading a piece yesterday about Cajuns (after watching a TV thing on their origin). Although I am very familiar with much of their history there was this thing about SOME Acadian settlers getting sent to the Falklands!
