It’s an all-out war between Alawites and Sunni, with Christians as the bystanders.

The Christians might want to start moving towards the Golan so they can get across the border into Israel once the cleansing begins.

To be honest, I am amazed chemical weapons have not been used yet to start said “cleansing”.

Let’s not forget that Syria has all of Iraq’s old WMD’s besides their own.

Omg! We need to send in the USAF to sweep the skies for the Moslem brotherhood insurgency! And if Moscow complains, bomb them too! Global nuclear war! ANYTHING to help Shillery, Humma Weiner, Obama and the EU restore the caliphate!

If this act of Syrian jets bombing rebels inside Syria doesn’t trigger the mutual defense clause of NATO,,, then WHAT DOES?

Run for the hills! Lol

Those Arab Christians probably understand that they are quite likely to be shot on sight by the IDF.

Large numbers of them fought in the Syrian armed forced against Israel in multiple wars, including on the Golan, and those also mostly hate Israel with a passion.

Yes, its true, such Christians have lived and fought on both sides, but they did have some protection - some - from the current regime.
It is a complex situation especially with the Druse.
I do not envy them their predicament at this time.

My brother in law is from Aleppo. Armenian Christian drug out of bed on his 18th birthday to fight against Christians in Lebanon. His father paid his way out of the Army. The whole family is now living in the US.

Syria is a sewer!

Or even Lebanon. They still have a significant Christian minority there.

Actually it is Alawites and Druze vs Sunni and the Sunni are purposely killing and ethnically cleansing Christians, Alawites and Druze.

They are going to Lebanon. Israel has made it clear that it will not accept Ba’athists or Islamists.

Most Syrians are bystanders. The fighting-age Alawites interviewed have generally given the impression that the war is something they hear about. There is no general mobilization probably because of the fact the rebels are outnumbered (by their own admission) by the security forces. Assad probably doesn't want to call up and pay hundreds of thousands of additional conscripts to sit around waiting to get shot at, when the threat is of the Iraq variety - bands of guerrillas waiting for targets of opportunity to claim that they have "liberated" an area before running away when government forces show up and kick their behinds. He's also fighting the rebels the American way, by throwing firepower at it instead of using throwing in waves of soldiers until the rebels quit. When Assad issues a general mobilization order, that's when we'll know he's backed into a corner.

Yes and I suspect there is an unspoken but real bargain between the US and Saudi Arabia that allows the Saudis to bankroll the Sunni militias in Syria and in Iraq. The goal in both places is to squelch the pro-Iranian Shia militias in Iraq and to topple the heretical Alawite regime in Syria . The latter is Iran's only ally in the region and the site of the Russians only naval base. The Sunni /Alawite war will unfortunately lead to a lot of Syrian Christians deaths unless there is a side deal that they can get out via Israel and Lebanon and then be settled here and Canada and Australia. The desired end state is a semi Islamist Sunni block in Syria and Iraq with a de facto Kurd state in the north and the Hezbollah isolated in Lebanon with the Israelis ready to pay them back for 2006. The grand strategy is to continue to isolate and contain Iran and create an Islamacist block that does not direct its Jihad at the US.

Thanks Fennie.

I didn’t check the thread for postings about how there were two planes, both of which flew out of Saudi Arabia, and how the pilots were al-Qaeda, and how the weapons were being fired by Hillary and Zero, respectively. But you know it could have happened by now — the postings, not the imaginary event I just described.

Up till now many people thought countries like Syria or N. Korea, Iran and the rest of the autocratic Arab world stockpiled WMD and supported enormous armies in order to fend off foreign “aggressors:. What has happened thus far during the “Arab Spring”, (read, “Jihad”), has shown all of us that these stockpiles are really intended to be used on their own populations, should the current regime feel truly threatened. It is pathetic.

Isn’t Aleppo the city where Assad’s old man went medieval on the Moslem Brotherhood back in the late 70s early 80s?

Well, no. The Christians are/have been TARGETS of the Islamicists.

It is foolish to believe that any such alliance will be the result of all this. Certainly not one which would benefit either the US or Saudi Arabia.

Nor do I believe there is anyone in this administration capable of conceiving or carrying out such a scheme.

That was Hama. Actually, it wasn't that medieval. As I understand it, he told the inhabitants to leave and that anyone remaining in the city after a given deadline would be considered a potential hostile. Then he demolished big chunks of the city where the rebel strongholds were located, using artillery. Pretty much what happened in WWII, except he also tortured and killed a lot of the male inhabitants captured after he sent his troops in to mop up, on the reasonable assumption that many of them were Muslim Brotherhood supporters or fighters. The Wikipedia entry has a pretty good account of the incident, including a quote from Patrick Seale, the foremost British historian specializing in the history of what is now Syria down through the ages.
