Report: Syria Moves Chemical Weapons to Borders
Arutz Sheva ^ | 24/7/12 | Gabe Kahn

Syria's rebels late Monday charged the regime has moved its chemical weapon stockpiles to airports and airbases on its borders with neighboring countries.

“We in the joint command of the Free Syrian Army inside the country know very well the locations and positions of these weapons," Syria's largest rebel group said in a statement.

“We also reveal that Assad has transferred some of these weapons and equipment for mixing chemical components to airports on the border,” it added. The move comes just one day after the embattled regime of Syrian president Bashar al-Assad warned it could use unconventional weapons if attacked by "an outside force."

Analysts say, if true, that moving the weapons is likely a bid by Damascus to pressure the international community, which is at loggerheads over whether to intervene in 16-months of slaughter in Syria.

Western powers and their Gulf Arab allies have called for an end to Assad's reign, and pressed for comprehensive international sanctions or even direct intervention.

"“Given the regime's stockpiles of chemical weapons, we will continue to make it clear to Assad and those around him that the world is watching and that they will be held accountable by the international community and the United States should they make the tragic mistake of using those weapons,” US president Barack Obama warned just hours after the Pentagon cautioned Assad against using unconventional arms.

And, Israel has threatened war should long-time Assad ally Hizbullah in Lebanon obtain any of Syria's chemical weapons. The Hizbullah terror organization has a history of targeting Israeli civilians and has fought more than one destructive war with Israel.

"In the moment we see that the Syrians transfer chemical and biological weapons to Hizbullah, this is a red line for us and from our point of view it‘s a clear ‘casus belli,’" Foreigh Minister Avigdor Lieberman said, using the Latin expression justifying war."

Tsk. Stop cherry-picking evidence. Wait until the threat is imminent, and then if they use it, the US will hold them accouutable. Oh, joy!s

Essentially what Obama is saying here is, “Use it. I double dare ya.”

Once again, it’s another nine year old boy’s ploy being used by the “Resident”.

Old broken record here - We should have taken down Assad and the Iranian regime when we had huge armies/ air forces in Iraq. Possibly we could have controilled the aftermath then. Instead we are going to risk more crazies coming to power.

I remember a couple of things re the weapons in Iraq.

The idiot inspector said they'd never find them unless they took us to them.

The second biggie was "double use factories" that could convert operations to chem weapons on a phone call.

The third was finding the "design" for a centrifuge "under the rosebush". (The Rose is the country's flower)

There are a lot of leaders around the world -- including in Israel, by the way -- who probably believe that the only thing worse than a Syria led by the Assad family is a Syria led by someone else.

That whole place is f#%&ed up beyond help. Every time "Western nations" successfully topple a regime in the Middle East, we get a flood of Christians who flee the country to escape Islamist repression.

This is what the "New World Order" is all about, folks ... building a post-Christian world.

I think Assad ain't gonna put any of his chem/bio weapons anywhere near a border—especially not Israel’s.

IDF commandos would capture them and reveal to the world the “Property of Saddam Hussein” stickers on them and the Left can't have that...

which means, ironically, that the threat should work on our Hussein.

Assad is sneaky...probably has them hidden in the Syrian ‘Baby Milk Plant”.

Just like Patton wanted to continue on and wipe out the Soviet Union.

You have a once-in-a-lifetime situation of men and materials in the right place, might as well use them to good effect.

But not this dink weed. God forbid that any of our enemies decide to get frisky between now and January 20.

Yep. The west is being led by a progressive mind that has the maturity and world experience of a 9 year old. In the meantime, the Russians appear to be acting as the adults.

Report: Russia Stopped Syria From Gassing Rebels

One Western diplomat in the region said: "There was talk of them using it two weeks ago, but the Russians intervened quickly to stop him.

"If you think how desperate these people are and what they have done in the past, you have to assume they would be prepared to use it. All of us think he (Assad) is capable of using it and will do it if he was pushed to the wall," the diplomat said, referring to credible reports that Assad was preparing to use Sarin gas against Syrian rebels.

But "the Russians got hold of him and told him ‘don't even think about it'".

I didn’t check the thread to see if those who try to shift blame for his actions away from Assad onto, say, his enemies, have been posting any of their usual, cookie-cutter nonsense.

Thanks Eleutheria5.

If George had gotten his way and backed up with nuclear weapons, think of the decades of untold misery inflicted by the commies that would have been averted.

Maybe in an alternative universe it happened and things were better.

With regard to using their poison gas, I would have to agree. IF these REPORTS ARE true, then it does look like Russian has sounded the bell of caution.

Using gas would be tantamount to using tactical battle-field nukes on your own citizens. I don’t think anyone other than a few mass murderers at the government level throughout history would buy into this.

Assad should take some of his national wealth and leave. He could negotiate it.

He could negotiate it.

Not now. The Sunni morons blew that chance when they tried to assassinate him. The Arab league offered him safe passage after their assassination attempt failed, but Assad is not that stupid, apparently.

The Russians are just covering their bases. They want to avoid their clients use of WMD if they can.

Right now it looks like NATO/Sunni's will stage a false flag event and that will lead to western intervention. My guess is a chemical artillery shell will land on a Syrian refugee camp in Turkey somewhere along the Turkish border.

Syria intervention is more likely, says UK think tank

What you say sounds reasoned. I’m not following it blow by blow. I appreciate the mention.
