Bloomberg Ignores Auroras In New York and Chicago
IBD Editorials ^ | July 24, 2012

Gun Control: The gun-controlled Windy City is on a pace to have 450 murders this year, an Aurora every 10 days. Meanwhile, the mayor of New York ignores his own body count to say the police should go on strike.

I don't understand why the police officers across this country don't stand up collectively and say we're going to go on strike," New York Mayor Michael Bloomberg told CNN's Piers Morgan. "We're not going to protect you unless you, the public, through the legislature, do what's required to make us safe."

He was speaking about the massacre in Aurora, Colo., and the need for gun control before all the bodies had been removed from the Century 16 theater and all family members had been officially notified.

But then, as someone once noted, a crisis is a terrible thing to waste. So is a tragedy.

Bloomberg, when not trying to save the world from the threat of table salt and 16-ounce soft drinks, is a co-founder of Mayors Against Illegal Guns — a coalition of more than 600 mayors fighting illegal gun trafficking and gun violence.

Their method is to push for disarming potential victims, while predators roam the streets assured that their victims can't shoot back.

Their results have been less than spectacular.

From July 2 to July 8, there were 21 murders in New York. There were 77 total shootings, compared with 60 for the same week last year — a 28.3% increase, according to the Police Department.

For real?? Did he actually say that? I don't believe a single human mind can contain that much cognitive dissonance.

He did say it although later he claimed he didn't mean it to be taken literally. Riiiiight.

do what's required to make us safe

Wow. Bloomberg is running a protection racket. This is a new twist on campaigning: a severed horsehead in every bed.

Mikey, the people were unarmed and helpless against your precious thug police.

Unfortunately it didn’t workout for them with the cops not there, and the attacker being heavily armed.

A big brother policeman on every corner, checking queued citizen sheeple travel papers. You know, to keep the cops safe.

It’s all about cop safety, you know.

Bllomberg just announced the new NYC police motto:

To Serve and Protect Ourselves
You Disarmed Peasants Are On Your Own
And Your Dogs Are Target Practice

Senator Daniel Webster (1782-1852):

Good intentions will always be pleaded for every assumption of authority. It is hardly too strong to say that the Constitution was made to guard the people against the dangers of good intentions. There are men in all ages who mean to govern well, but they mean to govern. They promise to be good masters, but they mean to be masters.
