A Minnesota congressman is calling for important changes to federal firearm laws in the wake of the movie theater massacre in Colorado.
Democrat Keith Ellison says the U.S. should not just restrict assault weapons but it should also set limits on some gun clips, ammunition and body armor.
Reasonable gun controls, Ellison said. Its time.
Ellison said Tuesday that you dont need a bulletproof vest and an assault rifle to go hunting. Hes supporting laws to restrict some of the items the Colorado shooter used in his deadly rampage. .....

I got that mylife, I was just posing a “what if” question of what round would best be suited if he was wearing armor (as initially reported by some)
Anything would have got his attention.
It’s like throwing a 1200 to 1500 fps brick at him.
The armor may stop penetration, but that jasper would be rattled enough to throw him of his game.
If 12 year olds are going to be taught how to put a condom on properly, they should also be taught how to safely handle a gun.
All I know is they will all still hit like bricks.
Right, the media has slowly come out with the corrections about it not being body armor.
When the initial story went out, it was used to poo poo the notion that concealed carrying audience members could have stopped/dropped him.
Also heard someone saying that the only use for armor piercing bullets is to shoot cops. Except this guy wasn’t a cop.
Absoutley correct piytar, and I think its probably well over 60%
On a side note, I was at the local Gander Mountain on Saturday (day after) and the gun floor was packed. I talked to the guy behind the counter and he told me gun sales were way up compared to the week before and ... get this ... people were interested in, and buying up all of the lasers and tactical lights they had.
Got to love REAL Americans, when dealt with a problem like defending ourselves in a dark theater we improvise instead of crying for government to "protect us"
And then again who ever popped him first could be the next to go down, drawing attention to themselves.
But body armor won’t protect you indefinitely.
I’m curious if there was a security camera outside the theater (or indoor) at the exit. People have been sneaking into theaters for ages.
Additionally there are often security cameras on the roof pointed at the parking lots to observe those breaking into cars (since the owners are tied up for hours).
I know there was a camera on the outside.
He parked right beside the emergency door.
My “everyday” weapon comes in 9mm, I was thinking my SIG would be better than nothing in the situation but if those plates were level-4 wouldn’t a 9 just bounce off?
Yeah but like I said, it would be like whacking him with a brick.
Beats screaming for your life.
my understanding from reading most threads is that someone in the front row got a cell call. He got up and left through the emergency door and blocked it from it closing completely. A few moments later the killer appears.
Question is, why was there no alarm.
My Question is how could that have been planned?
You won't talk me out of that .357 purchase though, the deal has already been cleared by the wife! :~)
I had thought of this.
Who opened that door?
The word “hunting” does not appear in the Second Amendment. The Founders intended for U.S. citizens to have the right to arm themselves to guarantee their God-given liberty against government oppression.
Why doesn’t the Muslim Congressman go after the First Amendment right to make violent movies that inspire madmen instead?
Either the killer opened that door, or an inside accomplice.
I don’t recall reading a description of the dude getting the cell call.Could have been the killer who then went to get his guns from his car.
As to an accomplice, could have been the room mate, or not.
Initially there was a report that police were looking for a mohammed. There was no follow up to that angle.
A Muslim thugg federal representative, a Mormon presidential candidate, and a pseudo-black Chicago thugg as President..
What are the people of the United States thinking?...
America is starting to look like New Sodom...
Whats next a Scientologist as a Supreme Court Judge?..
The Second Amendment isn't about hunting.
Re your question & the 5.7:
The ammo necessary for the 5.7 to defeat a vest is not available for purchase. The 5.7 is NOT a cop killer (contrary to every media article that discusses it.) All the regular ammo for it is NOT armor piercing.
IF one rolls their own they might be able to re create the round that could penetrate soft armor. Off the shelf stuff (which is what was used at ft. Hood) just won’t do it.
IMO if you are carrying a semi auto and want to be effective against armor, you could carry a +p+ hunting round and really wallop the vest OR shoot for the groin/pelvis/legs.
