If the copette had been made suspicious by the person in the car wearing (gasp) a HOODIE, she would have faced the wrath of the “civil rights industry” and later dismissed from the force.
What about a “Navy Vet” decal on the back window?

Benitez testified that her training told her that the presence of NRA gear makes it more likely the person might have a gun.

Hmmm. So I guess in this case profiling is OK. Though I do wonder if that same training indicates that the person with an NRA sticker on their vehicle is less likely to use their firearm against the police than say, a criminal who is carrying with no NRA sticker.

I do not envy your task. With every encounter you must make quick decisions. Like the officer in question, those decisions are based on experience and training.

The conflict between political correctness and training might create a dilemma because political correctness might influence others not even involved to bring legal charges for the decision.

The creeping liberalism adjusts the law to fit their values. Those values are increasingly flawed in practice.

Case in point.....running away. If you run you could be shot. Getting shot will cause running away to avoid apprehension come to an end.

My experience as a police officer tells me NRA gear means that person will probably be a responsible gun owner. What it doesn't tell me is that there is going to be a gun in a car nor is it reasonable suspicion to harass a citizen.

Thank you for the sane reasoning. The reality was the opposite for this citizen, and that is incredulous.

Thanks, brent13a, for that perspective—it’s one I had not considered.
