Obama talks of limiting some gun use in wake of Colorado massacre

President Obama has added his voice to the push for limits on Americans' gun use in the wake the massacre last week at a movie theater in Colorado.

Obama, speaking Wednesday evening to the National Urban League, affirmed his belief in Americans' right to own guns, but he singled out assault rifles as better suited for soldiers than civilians.

"I believe the Second Amendment guarantees an individual the right to bear arms," Obama said. "But I also believe that a lot of gun owners would agree that AK-47s belong in the hands of soldiers, not on the streets of our cities."

Obama forgot that the British took away the Patriots guns....many being the same that the British Army owned

AND THAT'S WHY WE HAVE THE RIGHT TO BEAR Arms.

This moron just like the rest of the Lib’s don’t realize that it’s the illegal guns in the hands of street hoods that are doing all the killing.

“Assault weapons... are a new topic. The weapons’ menacing looks, coupled with the public’s confusion over fully-automatic machine guns versus semi-automatic assault weapons — anything that looks like a machine gun is assumed to be a machine gun — can only increase the chance of public support for restrictions on these weapons.”

“Just wait until Obama’s second term... “

Yeah. In his first act he took Romney’s socialized healthcare plan and idea for an auto bailout.

Maybe in the 2nd term, he could use Romney’s assault weapons ban in Mass as a blueprint.

“but he singled out assault rifles as better suited for soldiers than civilians.”

Indeed they are more suited to the soldier. However, by a clear understanding of term “arms” used in the 2nd Ammendment. Those very “assault rifles” are protected by the 2nd Ammendment. It was the intent of the 2nd Ammendment to ensure that citizens had possesion of “military” weapons so they could defend themselves, their community, their state, and their country if called upon. The 2nd Ammendment protects the right of individual citiznes to have “military” type arms like “assault” rifles. Any other reading of the language would be ridiculous.

Not sure if it matters anymore, but if the Founders wanted us to be able to fend off subjection why should we not have AK-47’s AND anything else that’s useful for such a purpose?

The English colonies were planted in a part of North America designated by Spain's KIng Philippe II/III as a sort of refuge for European Protestants.

They, and he, already knew that your rights ~ all of them ~ rested on your right to keep and bear arms.

This place started out with rights to possess weapons, even the largest firearms.

If somebody doesn't like it he or she should go somewhere else!

“The president, however, suggested Wednesday that it “shouldn’t be controversial” to make the case that a “mentally unbalanced” person shouldn’t be able to get a gun so easily.”

So, is Obama prepared to suggest that we make people’s mental health history a public record? So, I (an FFL) will be able to check to see if my gun customer has ever been treated by a psychologist and that will be grounds for denying them their 2nd Amendment civil liberties?

Interesting. I wonder how the typically liberal members of the medical/mental health care profession will feel about that. What if the person has never been to a mental health care profession, but they’re acting “odd.” Would Obama be OK with a system where friends, parents, co-workers could report people they BELIEVE are unstable and that person would then be denied basic rights? So much for due process (not to mention the presumption of innocence and privacy concerns).

Quite a can of worms he’s kicking around there.

Why Barack, I’m perfectly copacetic with banning the use of guns to shoot up an audience in a movie theater!

"Who are the militia? Are they not ourselves? Is it feared, then, that we shall turn our arms each man gainst his own bosom. Congress have no power to disarm the militia. Their swords, and every other terrible implement of the soldier, are the birthright of an American...[T]he unlimited power of the sword is not in the hands of either the federal or state governments, but, where I trust in God it will ever remain, in the hands of the people."

Obama doesn’t know what the 2nd Amendment is either — he thinks is only to preserve “hunting and shooting tradition”...

“Obama said he believes in the Second Amendment’s protection of gun rights and that that hunting and shooting are part of a “cherished national tradition.”

America's top gun salesman 5 years running uses reverse psychology to pump up AK-47 knockoff sales. Way to go Zer0!

Oh, he definitely realizes it. That is precisely why he armed the sinaloa cartel.

If more decent citizens were volunteer soldiers (if that’s what having such a weapon makes them) in the troubled cities, these cities would soon become far less troubled.
