UN arms treaty takes shape, raising alarm among gun rights advocates

UNITED NATIONS – The arms trade treaty being hammered out by the United Nations is nearing completion, and the current draft shows it could lead to perpetual attacks on the U.S. Constitution’s Second Amendment and American foreign policy, critics say.

The document, which critics say has been framed by countries hostile to U.S. interests, allows for future amendments to be approved by just two-thirds of states showing up at an amendment conference. That means it could be agreed to by the U.S., put into effect and then changed over Washington's objections. And even if the U.S. Senate refuses to ratify it, the deal could have a huge impact on the global arms trade, where the U.S. is the biggest player.

“This alone is grounds for rejection,” said Ted Bromund, senior research fellow with the Washington-based Heritage Foundation’s Margaret Thatcher Center for Freedom, as he pored over the text.

But even without amendments, there is plenty for the U.S. not to like in the draft, say critics. The treaty could set the stage for legal challenges to U.S. aid to allies like Israel and Taiwan, and it could also expose private information about U.S. gun owners.

And there's the rub. It's not about confiscation (yet), it's about tracking. Any student of history knows what happens after they know where the guns reside.

If the bulk of American gun owners are not informed about this "treaty" and the ramifications of its ratification, we're all sure to hang separately.

Keep your powder dry.

Unfortunately a good portion of the American public is too ignorant and dumb and does not pay enough attention besides being asleep on the switch otherwise they would not have voted for this “Thing” what presently occupies the public housing project in D.C.

Unfortunately I believe that hussein will sign this. It will not be ratified bcombe senate at this time but will be used by the regime as a basis for “certain common sense administrative regulations” and the Repub senate will do nothing though the House may. Beware a super majority dem senate as they will ratify.

The real question is, did he swear to support the U. S. Constitution or not? How can he sign on to a foreign document that in effect strikes down the Second Amendment of the U. S. Constitution. It would be a direct violation of his oath of office.

It also places the United States in the role of being subservient to a government over our own.

At that point, he is then the agent of a foreign power, and no longer our agent.

It’s a conflict of interest, that immediately disqualifies him to be our Resident.

Same here. I thought it was a travesty when he was placed in the Senate of the United States.

So a bunch of people who trust Iranians with nukes don’t trust common citizens with guns?

That makes sense.....

Very well stated. This would make Obama an enemy to the United States, period!
