I was in Washington, DC a few weeks ago. It had been several years since I had moved around in the city. I was startled by how unfriendly African Americans were in interacting with whites.
Having come from a working class background, I always encounter service workers with a friendly smile, friendly greeting, and I often try to engage in conversation. In almost every interaction with African Americans I was treated with indifference at best or at worst with rudeness. A few times I could see hatred in their eyes. I found the same on the subway. Few African Americans would engage in conversation. The almost universal negative reaction I received from African Americans when I attempted to engage in friendly conversation astonished me and was not consistent with previous visits to the District. Working class people of other ethnicities (Asians, Latinos, Middle Easterners) were almost universally friendly.
Could it be the Administration and media deliberately pitting black again white is serving to unwind 50 years of positive developments in improving race relations? Has anyone else observed this kind of behavior?

I've personally experienced the exact same things you speak of, time and again. But it's The Hate That None Dare Speak Its Name. It does not exist. Black racism is white projection, so we're told.
Larry Elder said it years ago: "Blacks are more racist than Whites." Time has proven him true.
I’ve observed much the same pattern here in St. Louis; hostile arrogance, if not outright hate, wafts off most area blacks like heat waves off a desert highway. Several generations of American blacks have been “taught” from the crib to revile whitey and to establish and maintain a so-called culture entirely separate from the hated ‘Man’ (thus all the inscrutible “Africanized” names seen in newspaper articles about ghetto crime - D’elalphonacarus, T’anywiyka, etc.). When you combine this collective hate with the general dysfunction of the greater black community - the propensity to murder and steal, reproduce at will and with as many different partners as possible, widespread, functional illiteracy - we’ve got ourselves a very serious problem that’s only going to get worse.

The survival of the Democrat party depends on a 90% plus support of blacks and 60% plus support by Hispanics. The only way they can obtain this support is by cultivating division and racial hatred. They are quite good at inflaming racial passion and have the full support of the media.
The flash mobs are a function of this. These kids and young adults have been brought up on hatred and feeling of entitlement. Psychologically they are just taking what they deserve to have and would have it if not for the "oppression" by the white man. The lack of proper response by law enforcement verifies the validity of their thought process.
Much of that exists independent of race, of course, but it was very noticeable.

Yes, I have observed that kind of behavior myself, but…
… if you honestly think that over the past fifty years the “developments” in race relations have been “positive”…. you’d better reconsider those beliefs.
Up until the “Civil Rights Era” began, blacks were actually on a pathway towards the cultural mainstream (and by “cultural”, I mean the “white” culture unequivocally and unapologetcially).
It was -after- the passage of such laws as the Civil Rights Act and the misguided Great Society programs to “help” them, that black culture and mores began to “diverge”, to veer off away from the mainstream because black aspiration towards same would be derided as “acting white”.
It’s no mistake that the word “integration”, which was pressured on whites in the sixties and seventies, is now relegated to the scrapheap of racial history. In its place is the new term, “diversity” (of course constructed upon the building blocks of “multiculturalism”).
Consider for a moment the stark contradictions between “integration” and “diversity”. To “integrate”, by my dictionary definition, is to “combine (one thing) with another so that they become a whole”. “Diversity”, on the other hand, contains no implication of making two into a whole, but instead seems to celebrate “separateness”.
For the past 50 years, American blacks, by culture, beliefs, and behavior have not been moving closer to the white mainstream, but have been deliberately moving AWAY from it.
Nothing good can come from this.
And we are seeing the results now, as recorded by security cameras, and displayed in YouTube videos...
I’ve noticed some blacks in my area are not as friendly as previously. They are indifferent or must force themselves to return a greeting. It is a kind of hatred you can feel and nothing good can come of it.
Also one of my kids had a couple of black friends who seem to have gone ghetto and not wanting to be around a white boy.
My first trip ever to DC was in 1990, and my experience was the direct opposite. I had nothing but pleasant exchanges with cab drivers and servicce people everywhere. The majority of people in the District were overwhelmingly black. Even in the capitol itself. Even in abandoned areas a few blocks from the mall, I did not feel threatened in any way.
The only hint, a few years later was the admonition that certain areas where there were very expensive restaurants, were "inadviseable" after certain hours of the evening. Apparently it has gotten worse.
