Romney 'Looking Forward to the Bust of Winston Churchill Being in the Oval Office Again'

At an event in London, Republican presidential candidate Mitt Romney said, "I'm looking forward to the bust of Winston Churchill being in the Oval Office again."

Mitt Romney at London fundraiser: "I'm looking forward to the bust of Winston Churchill being in the Oval Office again." #watersedge?

— Kasie Hunt (@kasie) July 26, 2012

President Obama famously sent Churchill's bust back to Britain soon after coming into office. As the Telegraph reported then:

A bust of the former prime minister once voted the greatest Briton in history, which was loaned to George W Bush from the Government's art collection after the September 11 attacks, has now been formally handed back.

The bronze by Sir Jacob Epstein, worth hundreds of thousands of pounds if it were ever sold on the open market, enjoyed pride of place in the Oval Office during President Bush's tenure.

But when British officials offered to let Mr Obama to hang onto the bust for a further four years, the White House said: "Thanks, but no thanks."

Good for Romney.

"The fact that in Mohammedan law every woman must belong
to some man as his absolute property - either as a child,
a wife, or a concubine - must delay the final extinction of slavery
until the faith of Islam has ceased to be a great power among men."

[Winston Churchill, 1899, "The River War"]

"Bust of Churchill Returned by Obama
"After the September 11th attacks our British allies loaned President George Bush
a bust of one of the greatest Britons the world has ever known, Sir Winston Churchill.
It was a gesture to show their support for the United States in one of its darkest hours.
The bust sat prominently in the Oval Office for the balance of President Bush’s tenure there,
and once President Obama took office, the British offered him the opportunity to keep it for the length of his term.
His response was cold and most likely sent tremors through the British diplomatic community."
....
"Diplomatically this is a faux pax that only an unseasoned politician could make.
The British have stood by our side as strong allies for decades and we need to maintain that relationship,
especially in a world that is becoming increasingly dangerous (See Is Nuclear Weakness on the Horizon)
If he did not want to look at it in the oval office he could have displayed it elsewhere in the White House
and not slapped the British in the face in such a blatant disregard of political etiquette."

" I contend that for a nation to try to tax itself into prosperity is like a man standing in a bucket and trying to lift himself up by the handle."
Winston Churchill

"The inherent vice of capitalism is the unequal sharing of the blessings. The inherent blessing of socialism is the equal sharing of misery."
Winston Churchill

A self-agrandizing, pompous [ala Benito Mussolini] affirmative-action ass.

No surprise. Though few seem to remember it, Churchill was the father of socialized medicine in Great Britain. And, of course, Romney kicked open the door in the United States.

I recall being aghast at this early O-bot gaffe, then two weeks later he gave the Queen an ipod to only outdo himself. Please, please, please send this un-gentleman to the dustbin of history. Soon.

"The inherent vice of capitalism is the unequal sharing of the blessings. The inherent blessing of socialism is the equal sharing of misery." -- Winston Churchill

It's strange to juxtapose that great, and true, quote from Churchill with this one from 1942:

"The discoveries of healing science must be the inheritance of all . . . . Disease must be attacked whether it occurs in the poorest or the richest man or woman, simply on the ground that it is the enemy . . . . Our policy is to create a national health service, in order to secure that everybody in the country, irrespective of means, age, sex, or occupation, shall have equal Opportunities to benefit from the best and most up-to-date medical and allied services available."

Stated, but unproven.
Let us TEST the hypothesis, FRiend.

Behold the Happiest Moment in Mr. RomneyCARE's life
installing Statism and DEATH PANELS.

When did Churchill putatively do this?

Did he look as happy?

I recall this too. But as I recall it was something like a collection of his frickin speeches on a DVD....trouble is that the idiots that surround him they didn’t realize the difference between ITU Zone 1 and Zone 2 DVDs....IOW, the Queen couldn’t even watch the DVD unless she had a US player....what a freaking idiot.

No doubt about it, in most respects Romney is much more like Chamberlain than he is like Churchill.

Clearly, Chamberlain would not likely have a bust of Churchill... but he might very well have a bust of Romney at 10 Downing St.

What’s your point fool, posting these pics. We’re stuck with Romney, love him or hate him. You want Obama to get re-elected for 4 more years? You want to send aid and comfort to the enemy. All you idiots bashing Romney, if we don’t get behind the Romney bandwagon, this country is done for.

I have to give Romney credit, he appears to know how to get Obummer’s goat.

Now if Romney would pledge to end the voting rights act and EEOC, we could really see Zero being led away in a strait jacket. (I’m not holding my breath.)
