Its been nearly eight months since the Pentagon sent its largest and most powerful bomb, the Massive Ordnance Penetrator (MOP), back to Boeing for modifications necessary to take out Iranian nuclear facilities, but the Air Force says it's now ready to go.
Jeff Schogol at Defense News reports that Air Force Secretary Michael Donley says that while the MOP bomb continues to be refined and optimized, the Pentagon feels the 30,000 pound piece of ordnance is now sufficient to strike whatever targets the military may have in mind.
While the bomb went back to the drawing board with Pentagon planners considering Iran a potential target, recent developments in Syria offer up alternate possibilities for the MOP's initial mission.

Ya load 15 tons and whaddaya get...
looks good. let’s test it out immediately on iran. see if it works.
Is there a name for this beauty?
Little John? Something?
2. It explodes.
And it takes 8 months to make that work?
Massive Ordnance Penetrator (MOP).
It is nicknamed "Big BLU".
The Iranians are using a sophisticated form of concrete called UHPC(Ultra High-Performance Concrete), Also called "Smart Concrete."
When the Air Force first received the MOP in 2011, it was unknown if these bombs would be able to penetrate several feet of UHPC.
So the bombs had to back sent back and upgraded.
At 30,000 lbs it could be filled with inert, non-explosive concrete and still make a hell of mess.
Little John? Something?

“At 30,000 lbs it could be filled with inert, non-explosive concrete and still make a hell of mess.’
lol true. Live, it should take out half a county.
Very good news indeed!
Now that we’ve got some fancy technology, I expect we’ll break our streak and actually win a war for a change.
.....always had the technology, we never had the balls (in DC) to use it. We had laser guided munitions 45 years ago, but we got real specific where, when, and how.
This SOB will suck the guts out of everything for at least 10 miles away. EVEN if it goes off underground.
The USAF deploys heavy, long rods of solid tungsten from high altitudes with superb accuracy—no explosion-—but don’t let one hit you on the head
Forget that silly wimp stuff. This is THE TOOL:
No matter how deep they may be they have to have entrances/exits - MOP those up. Everything else is buried for years. Then bomb it again.
Yoo Hoo - CIA, FBI, NSA, Israel, Echelon, Iran, Terrorist, Nuclear, Bomb, secret, classified, eyes only, confidential, sex, hooters, gay, soviet, china, syria, radiation, Mossad, etc. hint hint. Goodbye cruel world. I wonder if this thing is loaded? Oh wait, lesbian, dead, murdered, blackmailed, buried, Obama, useless, stinking, POS ... ;-)
Ya take fifteen tons, and waddya get?
Not another day older or deeper in debt.
Mohammed is a calling and I must go,
Those bunkerbuster bombs’ll cause a lot of woe.
Need to test several GBU-43/B, Los Angeles, San Francisco, and Washington, DC to give them real urban renewal. Here: http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/GBU-43/B_Massive_Ordnance_Air_Blast_bomb
The 11 ton explosive power of the MOAB is very small when you compare it with the tactical nukes in our arsenal.
The lowest yield on the B61 nuclear bomb is 300 tons.
That is 27 times more explosive power than the MOAB.
When the BLU-82 went off, we were 5 miles away and we felt, heard, and saw the blast. There was a mushroom cloud that looked like a tactical nuke. We had people surrendering for three weeks after that bomb went off.
