Chick-fil-A beef puts mayor in pressure cooker (video at link)

Mayor Thomas M. Menino withdrew his threat to ban Chick-fil-A from Boston over the chicken chain president’s anti-gay marriage stance — but the Hub Democrat remained in the crosshairs of national conservatives, including former GOP presidential hopefuls Rick Santorum and Mike Huckabee.

“When I heard of the vicious hate speech and economic bullying being directed toward the (CEO Dan) Cathy family and their Chick-fil-A company, it was stunning. In the name of ‘tolerance’ a group was exercising extreme intolerance and trying to censor a citizen by threatening their business,” Huckabee told the Herald last night...

And as a thought exercise:

Lets say a city in Texas wanted to deny a Target or JC Penny a zoning permit because they support gay causes? Say the mayor openly said that was the reason. Think they’d be ok with that?

Love it. We are going to win this battle, but we need to keep the heat on.

On to Chicago. Everyone start posting their opinions on the Tribune website and call out these Nazis for being the thought police for the homosexual agenda.

Don’t let these self righteous, angry, depressed, unhappy, amoral, omnipotent busybodies get away with calling you names or threatening your business or personal life because you hold to the same values that your parents and their parents did. Obama was against gay marriage until just a few months ago, now if you don’t agree with Obama’s current position, then you are a bigoted hate monger.

This is bull crap. It is time to take the offensive on the culture war. We gave it to Menino and he backed down like the coward he is. Give it to Moreno and Emmanuel in Chicago.

The culture war is in full swing. The battle lines are drawn and the weapons are loaded.

Onward Christian Soldiers!

about time our side started standing up to these bullies - and standing up FOR our values.

They demand we not ‘offend” them - they ‘shall never be offended’ as to their beliefs without an inkling of recognition that WE are offended by being told we must tolerate their offensive behavior - that WE have no right to OUR beliefs.

Life does not come with a guarantee that “Thou shalt NEVER be offended.”

Deal with it. You go your way, we’ll go ours. WE have rights too. And YOUR rights END where OUR nose(s) begin(s).

Love the poll attached to the story.

I hope the mayor reads the Herald.

Was is it appropriate for Mayor Menino to express his views on Chick-fil-A?

17% - Yes, other pols should be as outspoken

75% - No, he exceeded his authority

8% - Don’t care, just more hot air

Homos love promoting their sick lifestyle and forcing us to all agree with it. If they don’t like the beliefs if this restaurant, no one is forcing them to eat there, but NO, that isnt good enough for them. If your against their perverted lifestyle they want to destroy you, we won’t tolerate that BS anymore. We have to vote Obama out in November, otherwise our goose is cooked

If you think Romney is going to turn around the culture war, then you have been living on a different planet for the last decade. Romney has been a huge supporter of gay rights, abortion rights, gun control, socialized medicine and a whole host of other left wing liberal causes. He recently came out for allowing gays to adopt children and thought it was a good idea.

Piss on Romney. He may win the election, but he is an enemy in the culture war. We will have to fight him even harder than we fight Obama and his ilk, because if Romney is elected, then the conservatives will put their guard down.

Michael Bloomberg is a self righteous, officious, meddling, busybody who is now decided to be a Food Nazi. If he thinks 32 ounce drinks are a crime, what the hell is he planning on doing to all the Cinnabon outlets in all the malls in NYC? One Cinnabon can put a whole boy scout troop into a diabetic coma. He won’t go after Cinnabon because they could sue him and NYC into poverty and he knows it. What a stupid, vapid, worthless, hypocritical creep this guy is. This guy makes Dinkins look like a right wing extremist and these idiots in NYC keep sending him back to do more damage to their city.

Freaking Food Nazis. Call them that every chance you get. Post it on the NYT comment site. Give this POS the thrashing he deserves. These liberal Mayors destroy every city they are elected to. And the stupid masses think they are doing such a good job because “they mean well”.

“Of all tyrannies, a tyranny exercised for the good of its victims may be the most oppressive. It may be better to live under robber barons than under omnipotent moral busybodies. The robber baron’s cruelty may sometimes sleep, his cupidity may at some point be satiated; but those who torment us for our own good will torment us without end, for they do so with the approval of their own conscience.” C.S. There is much truth in what you said. I'm so very relieved that America is waking up, and like good soldiers fighting this culture war, but if Romney turns this economy around, we'll just get cushy and lax like we always do, in an effort to keep the prosperous status quo. G-D help us to keep our eye on the prize and run the race with endurance. This is a war for the soul of America.

Well put. I think the militant homos have really overplayed their hand this time and that is a good thing. Homosexuality needs to be reclassified as a mental illness that it is.

I'm done with being tolerant, all it has gotten us is more aberration & perversion. We need to go way beyond outlawing gay marriage, we need to undo "civil unions" and "domestic partnerships" that allow these mentally ill perverts to adopt children.

I don’t have any Chik-Fil-A’s near me, either. But when we head south we always stop at at least one. Where KFC is more the bucket of chicken, Chik-Fil-A is more chicken sandwiches, that are really delicious even when grilled not fried, they offer fruit, sides and salads that no other fast food place offers and really good desserts to wash that salad down with! ;) Every restaurant we’ve visited down the East Coast has been clean, friendly, and excellent tasting food for the fast food genre. My daughter LOVES softball and obviously you can start the season in the south earlier then up north. A coach brought his entire softball team to the Chik-Fil-A we were at and my daughter struck up a conversation, wishing she could be playing when we had four feet of snow at home. The girls on the team said after every big win the bus had to stop at Chik-fill-A! I don’t know if it’s the obvious religious beliefs of the owner (closed on Sunday) but we normally don’t strike up conversations when on the road but always seem to with some very nice people at Chik-Fil-A.

With the latest back-stab by "Republican" Chief Justice John Roberts, I believe the GOP base, ie Tea Party-types, will give the GOP, including Romney, no slack. We've been betrayed too many times.

The GOP Establishment has to be made to realize that this election is their last chance. They will be given power by the voters. If they don't follow through, they will be replaced. No slack, no how. It's follow through or they'll be carried from the field.

The most effective way to combat this sort of sh!t is to hit them where it hurts.

The night before Mumbles Menino backed away from his original comments, I contacted the mayor's office via e-mail and sent them a very honest, but direct, message ... telling him that I will never be coming back to visit Boston again until there is a Chick-Fil-A restaurant waiting for me when I get there. I also pointed out that companies like Chick-Fil-A have a vested interest in promoting traditional marriage and family values because it helps to ensure that they have a solid customer base for a long time.

I'm sure plenty of other people sent similar messages to Mumbles, and I'm sure this is exactly why that jack@ss has backed down. It's not even about Chick-Fil-A, folks ... it's about an entire commercial real estate sector that's dealing with a market in distress. A commercial property owner who suddenly finds himself in a municipality where a public official is willing to go out and exclude businesses for purely political reasons is going to move mountains to put that public official back in his place.

On to Chicago now ...

So, if Romney is not going to win the culture war, and Obama escalates the culture war, then who, exactly, would you choose to do it, given the choices we are given.

Obama is pulling us directly into socialism/Marxism, with an entire media and sub-culture solidly behind him. He hates America and all she stands for.

Without the race card to play, the bulk of the control of the race card will be nullified to a degree that the stoke of the pen being the law of the land will be much less effective. The media will once again ride herd on the president and not turn a blind eye to lawless acts from the White House.

I’m not a big Romney proponent, but my disdain for Obama is so powerful that I cannot - in good conscience - support Obama by vote, or abstention from voting.

Supporting Romney will be like watching your mother-in-law go over a cliff in your new Mercedes...helping Obama will put you in the Mercedes with her.

Blind ideology will give us four more years of Obama, in which I think he’ll try to become president for life, I.e. dictator...look what he’s already done to the Constitution with lawless executive orders.

I don’t think that Romney - even being a RINO - has the audacity of Obama, nor the fanatical drive to be king of the world. Romney will back down to an irate populace.

It comes down to the lesser of two evils.

I’m a big Sarah Palin fan, but I don’t think she will run...so I have to live in “realville” and vote for the only American running.

After four years of Obama, I think the American people are awake, and will prevail. They see nothing coming from Obama but fall of America and the demise of personal liberty.

I know you will attack this post, but if Obama wins, in four more years there might not even be a forum - or even a free Internet - on which to share our opinions.

Romney was not my choice during the primaries and I did a lot of graphics lampooning him, but if the U.S.S. Romney is the only boat off Obama island, I’m taking it.

Obama is pulling us directly into socialism/Marxism...

Romney did that in Massachusetts.

BTW where is Romney on the culture war anyway? What is his stand on the unconstitutional actions by Boston and Chicago to punish Chick-fil-A for thought crimes?

I'm betting Obama comes out with a statement condemning these cities before Romney. The ACLU has condemned Chicago and Boston. Where is Romney?

Noticeably absent. That's where.

I’m not a big Romney proponent, but my disdain for Obama is so powerful that I cannot - in good conscience - support Obama by vote, or abstention from voting.

I'm voting alright. I'm voting for the conservative.

If Obama is reelected then Congress will just have to do their constitutional duty and impeach the bastard.

Frankly I expect that Romney will be elected. But not with my vote. Conservatives will have to work doubly hard to keep Romney from dragging the GOP even further to the left. Just remember that things like the EPA and the Americans with Disabilities act and Justice Souter were all brought to us by Republicans pretending at election time to be conservatives.

I don't think there are a lot of principled conservatives out there. I suspect I am in the 1% and if Romney needs the 1% of principled conservatives voters to beat Obama then he deserves to lose to Obama.

Secondly I live in California, so my vote really doesn't matter since it will be canceled out by 2 votes from illegal aliens.

Thanks for helping Obama kill the USA.

Regardless, the Tea Party movement should be mainly focused on the defeat of RINOs at every primary, particularly senators. Every high-level RINO incumbent should get a primary challenger, and the full national weight of the Tea Party should be toward his primary defeat.

Impeachment (on what grounds?) might stand a chance in the House with a Republican majority.

But conviction requires a 2/3 vote in the Senate. Not a chance in hell. Remember Trent Lott's famous pronouncement regarding the Senate vote on Clinton's impeachment?

If Obama is reelected, we're stuck with him for four more years.

I'm against gay 'marriage'.

I'm also against marriage between one man and four women - and I'm against marriage between people and animals or marriage of close relatives or anything other than a man and a woman.

So what?

That's my belief system and I'm NOT ashamed of it.

I don't care what names liberal elites call me - or how they chose to bully ... it stands: Marriage is between one man and one woman. Period.
