'What a car crash... worse than Sarah Palin': British politicians' fury at Romney's..
UK Daily Mail ^ | July 27, 2012 | Toby Harnden and Thomas Duarte

Top political figures in Britain have been queuing up to criticise Mitt Romney after he kicked off his first foreign tour by publicly questioning whether London would be able to run the Olympics smoothly. The most high-profile humiliation came when thousands of Brits jeered him after London's Mayor Boris Johnson mocked him at a concert to mark the end of the Olympic Torch relay. However, behind the scenes officials were even more scathing about the Republican presidential hopeful, describing his visit as a 'car crash' and comparing him unfavourably to Sarah Palin. Another official who met with the former Governor of Massachusetts said he was 'apparently devoid of charm, warmth, humour or sincerity'.

Capital job there Willard. At least you provided lots of material for the British tabloids. How pathetic this man is the best the Republican party can come up with.

I don’t have much of a problem with this. He was asked a question and replied with an honest assessment based on his experience. It was impolitic to be sure, but I’d prefer honesty to pandering any day.

Bet they love Obama, hope you folks know a hit job when you see one. IF the British truly prefer the Obama foreign policy, we can just write off Europe today.

Oh and I’m sure you all agree that it’s the worst insult to be “Worse than Sarah Palin”. /s All over a truthful and accurate comment about some difficulties with the olympics.

Heaven forbid there is a terrorist incident at this year’s Olympics. If it happens, and if it goes badly, Romney will seem like a very wise man.

The Brits better pray everything goes swimmingly to prove Romney wrong.

The Brits are jealous the London Games have seen problem after problem and they haven’t even started yet. Meanwhile, the Salt Lake City Games were saved (by Romney’s leadership, no less) and produced a profit.

Another Whitehall official said of Mr Romney’s remarks: ‘What a car crash. We are speechless' - with one aide saying the candidate was 'worse than Sarah Palin', John McCain's 2008 running mate who has a poor reputation in the UK.

Ah, yes. Remind me again why I have such contempt for British politicians on both the Left and Right. What did Sarah Palin say that caused such contempt among British politicians on the Right and Left? Or was it just because they were prejudiced against her? They are petty and small minded.

Romney shouldn't have said what he said but he is right. What I have heard about so far, with some of the presentations and the ceremony, are laughable (the one with the storybook characters sounds cringe-worthy). And the British have committed a couple gaffes of their own already -- putting up the wrong flags when certain athletes are competing.

Britain is a petty, small-minded nation that is incredibly resentful of America. We saw it in the Iraq War, we saw it with how they treated George Bus, we saw it with how they treated Sarah Palin and we see it now. I could care less what they think.

Romney, speaking during a fundraiser in London, said that if elected president, he would return a bust of Churchill that was given to President George W. Bush in 2001 - and later returned by President Obama - back to the Oval Office.

President Obama famously sent Churchill’s bust back to Britain soon after coming into office. As the Telegraph reported then:

A bust of the former prime minister once voted the greatest Briton in history, which was loaned to George W Bush from the Government’s art collection after the September 11 attacks, has now been formally handed back.

The bronze by Sir Jacob Epstein, worth hundreds of thousands of pounds if it were ever sold on the open market, enjoyed pride of place in the Oval Office during President Bush’s tenure.

But when British officials offered to let Mr Obama to hang onto the bust for a further four years, the White House said: “Thanks, but no thanks.”

Romney just needs to smile and wave at people up until the election.

Perhaps they ought to wait until the end of the Olympics before they express their umbrage at this mild critique. We won’t know if Romney was wrong until it’s over.

Romney knowns what he’s talking about, as shown by the 2002 Winter Olympics, which he turned around.

However, he needs to be more diplomatic!!!!

The run-up to the 2012 Olympics has been plagued by muslim terrorist activity. I hope and pray that no attack happens! But security is paramount.

There is nothing Romney could have said to please the leftists in Britain, who are among the most Communist Commies on the planet, especially in the media and London. They couldn’t wait to pile on. His comments were ill-advised. But, the response is way overdone and in no way in proportion to what was said.

Years ago I watched the Australian Olympics, best one EVER.

I have a somber feeling the Brits may actually not have enough resources to stop possibly another Israeli event.

I’m just going by a gut feeling, something is about to pop over there, a gas attack or an airplane crash aimed at the event.
