Scoop on Luke: He plays it safe

Update: Boy Mayor of Pittsburgh decides to Join the Fudgepacker Choir after all

If you asked Pittsburgh Mayor Luke Ravenstahl to identify his three favorite ice cream flavors these days, he likely would respond, “Vanilla, vanilla and vanilla.”

With a probable re-election battle looming against one or more prospective challengers such as City Councilman Bill Peduto, city Controller Michael Lamb and state Auditor General Jack Wagner, Ravenstahl’s strategy appears to be: Bland is grand.

The mayor took his greatest political risk in ages on Thursday, appearing on the North Shore to hype the city’s new multi-space parking meters.

It could cost him the easily annoyed folks’ vote.

Endorsing the modernization program likely won’t win Ravenstahl any support from people unaccustomed to having to punch in their license plate number to publicly park.

. . .

In terms of creating controversy, Ravenstahl’s unabashed support for the city parking authority’s state-of-the-art timing devices pales in comparison to positions other mayors have taken:

• Philadelphia Mayor Michael Nutter called for strengthening gun laws after last week’s shooting massacre in an Aurora, Colo., movie theater.

• • •

• Boston Mayor Thomas Menino opposes a Chick-Fil-A because of the restaurant chain’s blatant and admitted anti-homosexual positions.

Being a mayor occasionally requires being a leader, and leadership occasionally involves taking positions on which not everyone agrees.

How has Ravenstahl recently fared in that area?

In one move, he forcefully urged city residents to form block watch programs to combat a recent spate of home break-ins.

Who knew that a cute editorial in this morning's paper would get to our boy Luke so quickly?

I just heard on the radio on the way in that he has now joined the thug cities of Boston and Chicago in declaring that Chick-fil-A is not welcome in Pittsburgh now.

FWIW, they have no plans to open in Pittsburgh. Their restaurants do just fine in the 'burbs of the 'burgh, including three in our modest sized hometown of Greensburg.

He’s a supreme douche, and yesterday, when he joined his mayoral colleagues in taking a swipe at Chik-Fil-A, was the ultimate. He’s just a puppet for the two rich homos on Mt Washington who control the city

Has anyone been polling blacks to see how they feel about their fave Dem politicians being pro-gay, anti Christian, and anti FRIED CHICKEN!

Next thing you know, they will start to attack Church's.

Steven R. Herforth & Peter J. Karlovich

“partners” for 23 years. They made their fortune in the dot com bubble & now live atop Mt Washington. Their money allows them to buy & control local pols & they’ve entertained the likes of Howard Dean and other high-ranking Dem officials at their home.
