Talks over the UN Arms Trade Treaty fell apart today, effectively killing the agreement. The Arms Trade Treaty Legal Blog reports that the process seemed to be moving to completion when the United States requested an extension to the time to negotiate the agreement. This opened the door to other countries to begin registering objections, and it soon became clear that reaching agreement within the allowed timeframe would be impossible. The proposed treaty, which raised considerable domestic opposition from gun rights advocates in the United States, died before it had a chance to become a threat. As a delegate from China observed, "C'est la vie et la vie c'est ça."

Exactly! I also note that over the last couple of years we have heard a number of times that some devilish plan was dead, only to see it rear it’s head seemingly hours later.

I’ll believe this round is dead at least a week after the Olympics is over.

No use for the Euros to fight over a new UN headquarters, they [the UN] already have four: (1) NYC [current one]; (2) Geneva, Switzerland; (3) Brussels, Belgium; and (4) Nairobi, Kenya.

Condemn the NYC HQ and give the UN six months to move out. Four weeks after the drop dead date to move out, the NYC HQ gets imploded. NYC is free to build anything on the rubble.

The U.S. does not relocate to the new UN HQ and it shuts off all funding. The UN dies of its own corruption and greed.

And yes, I know about the head count against LOST stands at a precarious 35 votes. It takes two senators to go wobbly and we’re in deep doo-doo. Make every senator take a stand BEFORE the lame duck session.
