Target offers same-sex wedding registries; vows political neutrality

When gay couples are ready to get married, Target is happy to help them celebrate.

The Minneapolis-based discount chain is running an ad featuring two grooms as an invitation to other gay and lesbian couples to set up their wedding registries at Target.

"Be yourself, together," the text of the ad reads. "Build a Target Wedding Gift Registry as unique as the two of you."

Does this mean Target Corp. is ready to make a commitment, too? Is Minnesota's most prominent corporation taking a public stand supporting gay marriage -- and opposing the Minnesota marriage amendment, which is coming to a vote in November?

Target has seen the direction that JC Penney is going in, and Target says, "We can do that too!"

People with MBAs sure are stupid.

I am a capitalist—I believe in the capitalist system and I give applause to any business that works to keep up their sales! I give Kudos to Target! i do not agree with Gay marriage—but I do agree with making money!

Sounds like you need to open a clinic offering cut-rate abortions.

All the Big Chains seems to want to capture that special 2% of the marketplace. The heck with the other 98% of the buying public! Who needs 'em?! The homosexual 2% has some serious coin, and a whole national chain can make big profits just catering to these elite shoppers.

Right?

Every morning when I wake up and find that G-d has not buried this country in fire and brimstone; I marvel at His patience.

In this case they are appealing to even a smaller percentage. Not all gays marry. It’s my understanding that past the first year, the number of weddings held in Mass. have been fairly low.

I don’t think they are doing appropriate market research for this. I would want to see the numbers of actual registered marriages from the states who have “gay marriage” to see if diverting advertising dollars is worth it.

I am also wondering if focus groups for the advertising campaign (if they actually had any) don’t have the Bradley effect to keep people from appearing
“intolerant.” Seriously, want 26 year old woman is going to want to register at a place that is advertising for two men?

“All the Big Chains seems to want to capture that special 2% of the marketplace”

They had already captured the 2”, did Gays not previously shop before being given special status/rights?

It's all about lefty ideology, and Gays running many of the Marketing Depts.

I think it’s amusing that “detestable” big businesses are turning liberal causes into marketing schemes. I support traditional marriage but as a libertarian/conservative, if Target can make a buck of these people, so be it. If they lose a buck because others won’t shop there, so be that too. Let the market decide.

I just don't see how trying to appeal to 2% of a market while losing a likely 60% equals capitalism rather than being an open attempt at public business suicide.

Perhaps Amazon. Bezos is giving his own money in that case, though. But he is Amazon and Amazon is him.

GM flew the homo flag over their Fort Wayne manufacturing plant about a month ago. Maybe it was a rogue plant manager. Have to wait and see.

There aren't enough retail establishments like Chick-Fil-A and In-N-Out.

I think the market is no where near 2%, it’s much lower. Gays themselves are not in lockstep regarding gay marriage. I know a number of gays who believe marriage should be one man/one woman.

His money came from us. I choose to withhold that money.

Well, that pretty much ends my Target shopping. I don’t patronize JC Penneys anymore either, and will continue to patronize those businesses who either uphold God’s Word regarding marriage or who at least have the good sense to remain politically neutral.
