Heres a really scary thought: New York Times columnist Paul Krugman wants to replace Ben Bernanke as the Chairman of the Federal Reserve.
The perilously liberal economist actually said this in a segment of CNNs Fareed Zakaria GPS to be aired Sunday (video follows with transcribed highlights and commentary):
Paul Krugman Wants to Replace Ben Bernanke as Federal Reserve Chairman
Krugman and Harvard economics professor Ken Rogoff were chatting with Zakaria about the state of the economy and what the Fed could be doing to spark a stronger recovery.
Krugman said that besides being more aggressive with a policy known as quantitative easing, It would really help in situations like the one were in now if the Fed would make it clear that it is willing to tolerate a higher rate of inflation over the medium term.
Rogoff agreed but said, The trouble is how do they credibly do it? How do they make a signal?
By the way, Paul, Rogoff added, what would you think of the idea of appointing you Federal Reserve Chairman as a credible signal?
People have been saying, Krugman responded, that Ben Bernanke should go around wearing a Hawaiian shirt so that he wouldnt be seen credibly. And the fact of the matter is he actually does have a taste for Hawaiian shirts, but it would be better to appoint me. Sure. That would help drive down the dollar, it would help drive up inflation expectations.
The one thing is, Krugman added, as long as somebody else does the actual work of running the place because you dont want me doing that."
Actually, given the stock market crash that would ensue if Krugman had anything at all to do with Fed policy, we want him as far away from that building as possible.
Let’s replace an idiot with a moron. What could possibly go wrong?
The fed needn’t do anything.
All that is required is for the Gov to take the gun away from businesses head.
Paulie slammed them for not using his advise
The ferret world would support the idea...
I guess the kenyans Portuguese water dog wouldn’t take the job.
Sure, and, the new dollars will be printed in rolls by Charmin.
Does that mean we should expect alien invasions soon?
Yeah, what you said
The first thing I looked for was to see if this was satire.
Of course he does, his Marxist ambitions abound. This is news? The traitor that actually would make such a nomination, as well as any leaders that condoned it should be prepared with a coat of pitch and feathers.
“The ferret world would support the idea...” LOL I love the pic.
Notice how the ferret has a more honest look on his face?
Oh, I’m sure Krugman DOES want that job. That way he’ll be able to FORCE his ideas on the country, and folks can’t just ignore him, like most do now.
Would rather have Kruggie captain the mission to Pluto. Or the center of the Earth, whichever...
The scary part of the equation is that, if Bobo was going to do it, he could have done it a year ago and given Kruggie a shot at hyperinflation a la Weimar/Zimbabwe, because that’s when he was told by his cadre that it was the only way to re-election. Instead he gambled on the competing blue sky lower unemployment predictions (from outside his circle!) and lost.
All these brilliant, really-really smart, intensely bright, intellectual-genius Progressives should have more of a role in running the government.
Who needs the three branches of government? (SEnate, House and Presidency, as stated by a certain Senator)
All that is needed is President Obama for life, a Progressive House, Senate, Supreme Court and Progressive offices in every state that would report to the Supreme Progressive Soviet in Washington.
