‘Quite a Number’ of Firearms Stolen (ABQ area gunshop burglarized)

Rio Rancho and federal officers are investigating the theft of numerous weapons this week from a private gun store in the city, Lt. Paul Rogers of the Rio Rancho police said.

“Because of the danger to the public that the firearms represent,” Rogers said, the Bureau of Alcohol, Tobacco, Firearms and Explosives is offering a $10,000 reward for information leading to the arrest of anyone responsible for the theft at Rio Rancho Armory.

Police were also seeking a person of interest for questioning, Rogers said.

About 3 a.m. Wednesday, Rio Rancho police responded to an alarm activated at the business, located at 2006 Southern Blvd.

“When officers arrived, it was discovered that suspect(s) had forced entry into the business and committed the theft of numerous firearms,” according to a police news release.

Police won't release the number of weapons stolen but examples include rifles with suppressors, one short-barrel rifle with a suppressor, and one short-barrel full automatic rifle with a suppressor. Likely the guns are already on the street and sold to gangs and drug dealers, or to criminal illegals of which ABQ has hordes.

Like any other stolen items they were probably stolen for resale, or for Mexico, surely not to arm the town's guerrilla movement or terrorists.

Is this really like Lions escaping or the space bacteria escaping from the lab?

If I were a local, (and I have lived there, got shot at with an arrow one night driving home from work), I would not be unusually disturbed, just annoyed at the crime and that the bad guys get some more guns but not that it is likely to change my threat odds at all.

Remember when that guy got shot by some JD kids when he drove past the old location of the Del Norte Gun Club back in the early 2000s? That could have been me. I drove by there within five minutes of that shooting on the same day.
